  • Applying some color to make this wall more interesting. There are several different applications to consider when adding color to masonry, like paint or stucco. Because this wall is not sealed and there is soil on the opposite side, we'll be using mineral paint.

    Hi Sara. Wondering why you chose to use primer? The IFU says no primer is needed w/ 2 coats of paint.

    does the primer also contain potassium silicate?

    If you could spray that's always faster but you need to backroll or back brush after spraying while it's wet so it adheres and doesn't just sit on top of the surface.

      If you actually heard the video she said she would spray majority of it, but oddly only showed us rolling. W/e We didn't come for the lesson, just the girl!

    Is the primer also mineral paint? If not, doesn’t that defeat the purpose? (I don’t intend for this to seem rude or like a criticism. I really want to know.) What kind of primer is it?

  • @jacksprat7087

    I take it that the primer is breathable too?? I want to paint a concrete block pump house. I don’t want to use a sealing type primer or paint.

    What a Godsend. I have been trying to figure out how to paint tumbled concrete blocks of various sizes of a short firepit wall. Prime with normal primer (oil or latex) then paint with a brush - because it is 3' high and about 40' around. We tried to use a concrete color mix and that looks yuck. Since the very large island around is ruby red rocks - I would like a color that complements that - I can find it now. I wonder tonight if Depot or Lowes handles mineral paint, I have never asked. Thank you so much - any advice is appreciated. Seems I found you at just the right time!!

    I know this is old video but I am interested in getting an old vintage kind of hacienda faded color. So maybe like an orange or yellow and wash it down to look faded and old. How would i do that on cinder block? Any thoughts? Tips and tricks?

    Could you link to the paint supplier, or where to get it. What kind of primer did you use? I have to assume that will not seal the block?

    I have a neighbor who has a tall planter wall behind mine and the brick is starting to deteriorate on my side. Would i be able to paint it if the neighbor is not willing to seal his side of the wall? I dont want to paint it if its going to peel off years later. What do you recommend?

  • @rosemaryflee
    @rosemaryflee 3 года назад

    Did you just have someone tint the paint? Is this paint or lime wash? I thought the paint to tint lime wash had to be a certain PH. The lime wash only comes in off whites etc.

    Nice video.
    2 Questions.
    How long does this treatment last?
    Can I layer multiple color treatments?
    I really don't like the basic gray colors used in most concrete retaining wall blocks so I figured I would find a way to customize the color on a budget.

    Where did you get your mineral paint. I live in Arizona. How long does it last and does it fade. Did you spray it with water. Is the mineral paint waterproof.

    • @sarabendrick7252
      @sarabendrick7252 3 года назад

      The paint is from Romabio. I dont remember specifically but the warranty but 20 year plus I think mineral paint breathes so it is not water proof, its better as it allows moisture in and out with out damaging it

  • @rosemaryflee
    @rosemaryflee 3 года назад +1

    • @sarabendrick7252

      lime wash over paint would not give you the benefits of mineral paint. we power washed the wall to clean any old paint off first

    wait, that was a good idea until i saw that theres a house sitting on some of that wall? @1:50 You dont want your crawlspace to be enclosed with permeable CMU. I hope its open on other sides so it can dry off rather quickly from any humidity getting underneath.

      Possibly mix lava powder with potassium silicate, should give bright pink brown color. Also lava contains a huge amount of iron, which should prevent anything growing in the paint
