Good idea to take it two episodes at a time, since this show has 4 different directors. They direct two episodes each, one director for episode 1 and 2, new director for 3 and 4, and so on. It highlights the feeling of these chapters in Go Young's life :) I also see people having different theories about that research paper. Personally I think the guy is so deep in the closet and writing that paper is the big symbol of his internalized homophobia. Also the small hints of the people and conservative field he works in. I don't see him as only using Go Young as research and not being gay himself. But yes, LOVE this show and all the interesting and tricky nuances to characters, especially Go Young :D Looking forward to your next reactions!
59:03 I love how they use silence and the cinematography in this show. Also the single shot in his flat made me feel like there was a distance like nothing could be done about what he was about to do, all we could do was watch from the same spot
The storytelling is so real, there are so many situations too where things are kind of grey as in you can't fully blame just one person, there is no easy explanations
I think this drama is so good. Like even if you take away the whole lgbtq aspect it's so well made about real relationships and idk how to say it in english but like one self and who you are, past trauma, self image, unexplainable feelings. I can recognize myself in so much from different characters, choices, relationships and how so much in life is just greyscale like both just colorless but also as in not black or white/right or wrong etc. But also I love how well it shows so much real life queerness in characters, issues, relationships without it feeling forced, it just feels realistic. Like the two outing scenes we gotten in these episodes, first his friend outing him then him outing this sob in the park is so realistic, you can understand both sides but also both make it clear how it's never ok to out someone. And it like when you get to know someone, yes he looked like a carefree party guy in the beginning but then you get to know him and what he has been through and goes through.
we all knew this hug was bad news and I feel so bad for young because this was a difficult time in his life with his ex passing, his bestie moving out and getting married (that changes a friendship), and then his mom's illness. For young, I'm sure it felt like the only levity he had, even with the problems in the relationship. On young soo, I want to believe that he actually liked Go Young, but was too caught up in his internalized homophobia.....The research paper trips me up a bit but I feel like he had feelings for him.
i love seeing people hate youngsoo lol. he never once left a good impression on me. i really do feel for the guy because internalized homophobia and religious guilt is a bitch, but his actions are not in any way excused. i hope he is surrounded by a better social circle in america and really learns from what he put goyoung through. i think he cares for goyoung on some level at least, but he handled the entire thing poorly and then just ran away like a coward. sending goyoung the commentary was also /so/ unnecessary
I felt the same way. Its felt clear they weren't going to last because they couldn't meet 50/50 even before we found out about the research paper. I hate how the second romance interest treated Young yet so many fans liked their chemistry. Not me though but Young did cared lots about him, depressenly. Can't wait for you to see the next two episode.
Finally someone with some sense I didn’t like what’s his face from the jump he just had bad energy but I kept seeing ppl excuse his behavior cuz they had good sexual chemistry and he’s attractive like I even saw ppl say that they hoped their relationship lasted longer and it was actually pmo cuz he was such a disgusting person for doing what he did but I was so happy when go young punched him like I literally was watching and yelling go young stand tf up
This! Thankgod I saw comments like this! I was literally so disgusted with people loving him just Because for them he is hot nor has a better chemistry with Go young! I even saw many edits of them and people are so obsessed with it! I even read a comment saying she hated how the show did him dirty! Like!? What!? They literally need therapy I cannot!
@@ArturttleistZuh yes love the actor he is hot af and talented cleaely cuz we hate his character he did a good job but the character was trash he needed to get his shit together The same people who are like they did his character dirty are the same people that be dating toxic people and thinking they can fix them like noooo wtf
The word you're looking for is compromise!! I thought the exact same. Young was always making concessions for Young Soo, but he was never doing the same. From the imbalance, I just knew they weren't going to work out from the start (except, of course, that Young Soo ended up being even more of a shit than we all expected). Couldn't stand him either, so good riddance! Really, really enjoying your reactions (and predictions!). The next couple eps are my fave, so I can't wait to see your reactions to those especially :)
I do feel sorry for the guy in the closet. Not that a gay shows needs to check all the boxes, but so many guys are in such a horrible bind that unless you are in their shoes you can’t really understand. I’m WAY older than the folks in this show (and probably most people watching) and in the early 90s I met a guy, we started dating and it was then I found out he was in the closet. He was not mean though and with his family was not in the same city it really didn’t affect very much. But still one day I told him that our relationship could only go so far. It was his choice to either stay in the closet or not. Long story short he wrote a letter to all his family and visited all their homes and dropped off the letters. As soon as he got back to our city he had several brothers and sisters show up at his apartment…and said they didn’t care and they would never shut him out. We’ve been together over 30 years now.
Idk if it's just me that still too young to understand, but you seriously sounds very smart, emotionally. Like, you can already guess what's gonna happened and what situations is Go Young through. After watching your reaction, I feel like I get a lot of new information about what a relationship should be (generally). You should considering being a couple therapist yk😂
Since Love In The Big City isn't a Boys Love series, I find it reductive to analyze No Yeong-su's character in such an unexamined way. He isn't meant to be the story's designated villain. Rather, his character illustrates what the weight of shame and self-hatred can do to a person. In the end, he too is deprived of the one he loved, and he'll carry the guilt of his cowardice. He never manipulated Go Young, made no promises, and even tried to communicate that he didn't want an open relationship. Young, consumed by passion, didn't listen and hoped for change. This is what often happens in cases of passionate love at first sight when people fall in love without establishing ground rules. While No Yeong-su is cruel during the breakup, the episode makes his motivations clear. He doesn't even try to defend himself when Go Young hits him. It's worth noting that Go Young himself wasn't exactly gentle when ending things with Kim Nam-kyu. The series is subtle and intelligent, designed to make us think rather than draw absolute conclusions.
36:42 as person from a more "conservative" country then Korea, it's very normal to have a lunch or any meals with your mate. Like just because 2 people eating in the same table doesn't mean they're gay😂
[incoherent crying] Oh, me? I'm listening to "the smallest man who ever lived" by Taylor Swift :D [incoherent crying ensues] These episodes felt like getting skewered by a spear that was fresh out of a forging furnace. They sure didn't hold back on the feels with this one.
24:14 I think being in the closet is too much to say about the main character. I mean I would say he is out, like in this scene and other he is not hiding who he is but also not sharing with just anyone and it should be up to him when and how and to who. I always been out (like really out, I was just 19 making out with someone at a club with everyone from all schools there, at a time when you never saw gay people so people really knew after that and before that never denying and even talking about it) but still it's no ones place but mine to out me to new people, my friends have such good feel to when it's ok and not to out me and most know when it's appropriate or not sometimes they know that it's good that they out me so I don't have to bother ^^. But like when I meet new people for work I just let it come out naturally, I don't "come out" before it's comes up naturally somehow. And I wouldn't want someone immature friend running round announcing it like it's my number one trait or some big thing about me for them to share. I'm not their "gay friend", I'm just their friend. 27:11 I know, I mean my close people weren't shocked or saying "really?" but they weren't like "oh, I know" but people I meet through work etc they assume so freaking much that I'm straight that I can be so openly gay and talk openly about someone I've been seeing or something and it's like they totally edit out or kinda laugh off the gay part. Like they think they misheard or I'm joking so I actually have to say it or correct them. And then "OH, so you are..? aha". But I mostly enjoy and know I benefit from going under the radar for straight people. If I'm around queer people they usually pick it up but straights don't and I mean, I know it's, sadly, a good thing for me but shows we're not where we should yet. And since I'm out I also do have fun with it a bit like out myself when they are talking something about "us straight people" or "those gay people" or something and intentionally make it awkward for them by outing myself.. ^^
Good spot on the 2 episodes being connected. Tho, if I were you - I would split 5/6 into their own videos and 7/8 (is up to you). While, 1-4 are really good, 5-8 are on a different level of drama.
Finally someone who hates Yeong Su like I do 😂 I disliked him the moment I saw him. He gives me bad vibes, all the time. His only redeeming quality was THAT scene 🫦

They are like mini movies, because the different stages of Go Young Life
The way he took of his bag for him that made me curl my toesssss. I love your reaction, i love the way you caught the guy is red flag from the start
59:03 I love how they use silence and the cinematography in this show. Also the single shot in his flat made me feel like there was a distance like nothing could be done about what he was about to do, all we could do was watch from the same spot
You are not ready for the next episodes! No one was ready for what happens next
Girl you know... was beautiful but they broke me
He is not gonna be ready for the all the rollercoaster emotions that are coming 😢
The storytelling is so real, there are so many situations too where things are kind of grey as in you can't fully blame just one person, there is no easy explanations
His mom was so manipulative, and theres a line that hit so hard "Don't try too hard, we will all die eventually".
I just can't wait to see your reaction to ep 5 & 6. These are my fav eps from the drama.
the next following episodes will break you into pieces. the most heart wrenching and beautiful eps in this series

Their dance scene is absolutely amazing

The fans who liked it were mostly focused on the spicy scenes
Finally someone with some sense I didn’t like what’s his face from the jump he just had bad energy but I kept seeing ppl excuse his behavior cuz they had good sexual chemistry and he’s attractive like I even saw ppl say that they hoped their relationship lasted longer and it was actually pmo cuz he was such a disgusting person for doing what he did but I was so happy when go young punched him like I literally was watching and yelling go young stand tf up
Oh same when I see people saying that I'm like yall need therapy cuz aint no way... is this the kind of relationship yall be having in real life
This! Thankgod I saw comments like this! I was literally so disgusted with people loving him just Because for them he is hot nor has a better chemistry with Go young! Go Young is 6'1/187cm, so he's indeed tall, so are all the other male cast

42:15 yk there are theories that suggest that He did leave for Go Young's sake, and after hearing you say the same. Ig it's make sense
i just LOVE how realistic this show is, from every aspect
Your theorising and vibe catching is so good damn
This time u got it right on the predictions and the word i think is "compromise"
I do feel sorry for the guy in the closet. Not that a gay shows needs to check all the boxes, but so many guys are in such a horrible bind that unless you are in their shoes you can’t really understand.

Imagine you invite your partner to meet your mom who's DY!NG of cancer, and they say they'll show up- just to stand you up. Like that's so evil.
