Oakville-based visual artist Tazeen Qayyum has a multimedia practice ranging from painting and sculpture to performance. Her work addresses questions about racial identity, cultural misperceptions, and a great hope for peace. Take a look at her recent three-hour performance at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, she drew continuously on a canvas while lying on a very hard concrete floor.

I love this! So many people in the comments talking about how everybody can do this but I won't listen to them until I see their artworks and watch them sit on the floor writing for 3 hours straight and transforming it into a piece of art that speaks to them.
She is just writing something over and over again. So what? How is it not art? I'm sorry to break it to you but drawing is just lines and more lines and together they form shapes and turn into something beautiful.
Damn, all the comments are dedicated to the "misleading title". It's better if you watch the whole video before commenting on it, 1:36 "they start seeing me as the brush now". That's where the title came from.

Her art was mezmerizing to me. i was struck by her passion for her art to the point where shes stuck in an obviously uncomfortable position without rest for hours at a time writing such beautiful words. I wonder what it is that shes writing in urdu, and to be completely honest i was not ready for the coments under this remarkable video. Ignorant people are attracted to things they dont understand. Prejudice is a dangerous thing. Thats what i took from this comment section. Such a disappointment.

nikoleta nikoleta yeshowever she's there for one whole sitting and she's not stopping, her body is in a abnormal position too. She's holding up her whole body weight with one hand and drawing with the other at one point which would be very painful. She's also not on a comfortable surface so if she loses her balance she's fucked.
May The Wolf same goes for people that work on high altitude and there are actual artist that do those sort of things and potentially risk their life

May The Wolf She choose to? Ever heard of pilates and yoga? She could do 3 different stage each 1 hour with a 10 min break in between and it would cause less physiological issue. There are people that do stay in weird position for longer because of their job

When I was in school kids who did something wrong like chew gum or talk in class were made to write their violation 500 times on the chalk board. "I will not chew gum in class" etc. They could not go home until they were done. It wasn't art then and it isn't art now. lol.

Twistymoo did you not hear her say how long it takes, think about it three hours in an extremely uncomfortable position creates pain all over her body, she never stops, not to rest her hand either. She also needs to make sure that the composition is balanced and not lob sided, it takes a lot to create a piece of art like this, so no not everyone can do something like this.
No... anyone can do that, but nobody has a reason to waste their time on drawing garbage.

It's more about the process than the product, how the art piece is produced rather than the outcome.
I don't understand art, especially not this. "They start seeing my body as the brush" Really? Is that what the visitors see? I just see a woman holding a marker, writing something in foreign letters. I often don't get this type of vague art unless it's explained to me, so does it really do what the artist thinks it does?

As for the 'bad skin' issue - as a qualified professional Beauty Therapist who has studied Skin Biology; I would require a thorough consultation with any client who has skin issues, to discuss their health & lifestyle & examine their skin thoroughly so as to assess how best to treat their skin problems. So I sincerely doubt you could get to the root of any skin problem by just watching this video; FYI acne is not caused by being a vegetarian, & it is no more likely to be cured by becoming vegan than it is to be cured by eating chocolate. Skin issues like acne are caused by any number of things including pregnancy, puberty, contraception, illness, stress, environment, bacteria, lack of sleep & poor nutrition. Food is only a tiny part of the overall health & well-being equation & people with well-balanced diets DO still get acne - as do vegans.
