Think about it CDs are very hardened plastic and will shatter all over the place if you try cutting one so by boiling them first it's softing them making them pliable and easy to cut
How fun! Glitter tip: I paint a salt/pepper shaker & store glitters in them. A dab of clear fingernail polish and sprinkle of glitter on the outside makes it easy to identify. A drill or icepick can increase hole size or use different container. Clear jars are great for odd bobs & bits & a recycled spice rack holds it all neatly out of the way! Happy Crafting!!
OMG. Thank you. I have got about 700 old CDs out the back. I was going to put them out in a council pickup but i am now going to be constructive with them. Absolutely beautiful, thank you.❤
I just had a little grand niece she is a month old and I am making her a princess butterfly mobile with little crowns and little butterflies out of CDs. What a great idea thank you. She’s gonna love it.
What everybody wants to know is the purpose of the boiling process. Is it to soften to make easier cutting or sterilise the discs before making your creations. I like the outcone from your efforts 😊
on first look i would say boiling seems to get the printing off (the floating debris?) and also seems to soften the disc for cutting so they dont break
@@christined4842 the water would have to be boiling to soften these discs and they would cool when removed from the water making it impossible to cut with scissors. They wont retain their heat once out of water. Have you tried breaking or snapping a CD they are tough. The fact they are thin and flat helps the heat disperse. All hot or boiling water would do is buckle their shape and make the foil layer come off the disc so I think its less complicated. The only way you could cut these discs is with a hacksaw or a pair of Garden secatuers
The title is very misleading! It makes it seem as if something unbelievable or fascinating is going to happen. Instead nothing happens and a sparkly craft was made. Just say "sun catcher made from old cds".
You do realize they (ON PURPOSE) mislead the titles so people will watch. Unfortunately RUclips pays these people money now. So they all seem to beg for people to subscribe and like. THEN they started begging people to 'watch until the end' for MORE exciting info' (because that got them more money). NOW RUclips changed the algorithm for their $$ calculation to include comments. So now they are begging to like comment and subscribe. Some are trying to be slick about the commenting by asking the audience a question. "Tell me what you would do different in the comments below". (Then they never respond to any comments). It's getting kinda pitiful
You have a mini-pig? Like, a real miniature pig? I think those things are the cutest things! I just read an article about them the other day. Just so cool!
I've tried Sanding, sawing, cutting, snapping discs, always to end up with cracked and splintered fragments. Never thought of boiling them. These Shiny things should NOT go in the bin if you can think of another use. I do think ADDING EXTRA shiny sparkly stuff is sooo cute.
You are right, my kitchen is now open plan and every window in my house now has a fractal design……my neighbour doesn’t share the same view about contemporary abstract art so luckily it only affected the side of his house that overlooks my kitchen.
Totally Cool ! I have seen where people have made Chimes out of these for Outside in the Yard or Garden & added Gems, Sequins, Ribbons, etc. You could even hang in a Window & give as Gifts. Thank You. Take Care & God Bless You.✨❤️🌙⭐😃
Boiling them in water does not release any considerable amount of toxins into the air. The plastic would have to melt for that. I wouldn't want to drink the water, but the air should be fine.
Omg I’m so glad I came across this I tried to cut up pieces to put in my resin but it was a nightmare and kept cracking I’m going to have to do a before and after . Thanks can’t wait to try it out !!
Love it! Great for so many celebrations, kids' rooms etc. What was the light you used to show it off at the end? I'm guessing it would make pretty reflections on the walls etc... Thanks and keep enjoying! 😃
Love this! Great mobile for over a baby's crib. I'd love to make some of the stars for my Christmas tree and just general holiday decor. You don't happen to have a pdf template for the star? It fits the disk perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
I didn't understand: Why do we have to cook the CD?
Heating makes the CD plastic ,,,PLIABLE, Soft to cut, COLD would Crack an break into pieces ,,,,ONLY REASON ,water heated entire surface 😊
Look at what remains in the pan afterwards…
So it's cooked
Think about it CDs are very hardened plastic and will shatter all over the place if you try cutting one so by boiling them first it's softing them making them pliable and easy to cut
😂😂😂❤
I appreciate how you always respond to your viewers' comments. It shows you care.

I think it is beautiful amazing in the final end.. cant wait to make this with my grand daughters.

Gives a whole new meaning to burning a CD
I love these craft ideas and will be adding these to my DIY crafter group.
Very beautiful! I never would have suspected it was made from old CDs! It lots of ideas.
Be well.
How rude are some people, I was always told if you have t got any thing nice to say, say nothing, thanks for your time and effort
I just had a little grand niece she is a month old and I am making her a princess butterfly mobile with little crowns and little butterflies out of CDs. What a great idea thank you. She’s gonna love it.
These are so sweet. They made gorgeous Christmas oranments
So beautiful reuse of old cds🤩

on first look i would say boiling seems to get the printing off (the floating debris?) and also seems to soften the disc for cutting so they dont break
@@chlorone Tried this, didn't work, even boiling again for longer. if the printing comes off, so does the foil layer, and it barely comes off.
@@greengrendel was it a blank or a commercial? Prolly work better with blanks.
Obviously to make it softer to be able to cut with scissors

It’s GORGEOUS!!! Had to speed up the video to watch it though!

They do this just so you will click on it and boost their page
Looking at the residue I suspect it's to get the labels off the other side?
why boil?????
Blud thought this would be the 2nd coming of Jesus.

That is amazing ❤️
❤ you did beautifully. Lots of happy time for you. ❤❤
Very pretty 🐱. Thanks 👍
Very cute. I'll have to give it a try for my mini-pig's space. She loves stuff like that
You have a mini-pig? Like, a real miniature pig? I think those things are the cutest things! I just read an article about them the other day. Just so cool!
Cute for that. Bc I don't imagine your piggy trying to touch it. It looks like a cutting hazard to me. But that's just me

I was just about to ask why the boiling when I read your comment, that answered my question! :)
Good to know!
I think it's really pretty. ❤️☺️
Absolutely beautiful! I love this!
دائمااااامتألقة ومميزة❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m not a crafty person but I so enjoyed watching this. I actually have lots of cds, maybe my crafty daughter will try this. Thank you.
What an awsome idea 😃👍
Other than getting the labels off, what is the point of boiling them first?
was kinda of wondering that myself....maybe easier to cut without them shattering....a bit of text would help.
They are easier to cut when soft😊
wonderful eco new idea! I find items at home and use this idea with pleasure!
Muito bonito este seu trabalho 🙏🙏🙏🌟🌟🎉🎉🎈👍💝🎁🇧🇷🇧🇷
Ghosh! incredible skills and imagination!!
Microwave a CD for 2 seconds. The resulting fractal design is beautiful.
OMG. I might be high but I want to do this! 2 minutes, right? Got it!
You are right, my kitchen is now open plan and every window in my house now has a fractal design……my neighbour doesn’t share the same view about contemporary abstract art so luckily it only affected the side of his house that overlooks my kitchen.
Wrap the CDs in foil for better results!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
@idooard420Why not? You seem to feel very strongly about this.
It's cooked for flavour 😋 ❤

Great Re-Cycling idea
I like this idea. A friend is having a baby. Maybe I’ll make one for her.

What about the toxic chemicals that are getting released into the air
you inhale them as deep as you can

@anitaschinzel2640 that is not true at all
Beautiful well crafted ❤
Beautiful..💜✨👌🏼
super cute, but why does the cd need to be boiled?
Ingenious. So cute. ❤❤❤

Great job
Woooow great idea thank you
Brilliant! so beautiful!
Nice idea
que bello trabajo saludos desde Argentina!!
Unbelievable 😊 So beautiful 😍
Save time and effort by putting the CD in the microwave for 1 minute! Make bits of CD and microwave simultaneously! Excellent!!!
Does cooking cost just make them easier to cute ??? Love love this project I'm going to make it. So great thanks for sharing
Thats pretty cool. Could also make one using fishing line instead of that silk ribbon and put lights directly on or in it.
This is very pretty.
Lindo! E obrigado pela dica ❤
Beautiful!!
Very cool! How did you cut the CD without it cracking?
Probably because it would soften the CDs,haven't you ever bent on,pretty tough to do.😊Nice video, turned out cute, thanks for sharing.👍
What does the boiling do?
Thats 5 minutes of my life I will never get back🤣
Your choice 😁
Раньше из "винила" делали горшки для цветов, теперь из "си-- ди" дисков. Прогресс !😀
А зачем кипятить, я не поняла?
How beautiful ❤️
Very wonderful.
This will initiate more ideas, many thanks

Nice work 👍👍
Ich würde auf das Glitzer verzichten ,die CD Glitzert schon so schön❤
I am also wondering why you boil the cd’s
Very clever idea!!
What does the boiling do? Makes the CD easier to cut??
This is very cute. Do the cd’s have to remain warm while you cut them?
Good question.... that issue should be added to the video so people know if they have to do the cutting immediately or not.
amazing
