- If you really want to play World of Tanks in Hard Mode, play a stock Type 4 Chi-To. Actually, don't do that, nobody deserves to experience that. Even a stock VK3001P might be better.

You don’t know a stock tank grind until you’ve got the ST-1 before the IS-3 and you have to use the IS’ gun at tier 9 in a turret that can be penned by T7s
Its 08:29 here. And I played the VK 30.01 P because I wanted the Maus.... and I gave up on it after 16 battles and just played the VK 36.01 H instead.
As to what makes it so slow? Well, obviously the heavy moral burden of not being a Russian (premium) tank... d'uh.
It's weighed down by the guilt of denied war crimes obviously.

This line was way to painful to play even up to the Chi-Ri and now I am afraid to go beyond the autoloader...
Oddly upgraded I actually quite liked it with the gun and gun depression, mind you this was a long time ago when it first came out and then with a mission marathon where it was the only tank I had for the Japanese section of it :)
Grinding the STB-1 was one of the worst decisions I have made in my life, not because the STB-1 is shit (it is not, it is in fact an absolute joy to play), but because of what an absolute nightmare that the tanks leading up to it are.
I have just grinded that line up to the STA with top modules and have to say: T5 good, T6 is trash, Chi-Ri is awesome in same tier and better mm, penetration sucks though and the STA is one of the better T8 mediums with a fucking horrible stock grind.

Speaking as someone who can't have anesthetic for dental work (it triggers trigeminal neuropathy), I would say the stock grind on the Sturer Emil rates right up there with a filling repair.
As someone who had to have both top front teeth removed without the benefit of an anaesthetic, I can only sympathise. I'm fairly certain that I left my fingerprints in the metalwork on the dentist's chair.

talking about BAD stock tanks try to play the SU-101 .... for one it doess´t even get the topgun from the SU-100M1 nonono it gets the stock gun from the SU-100M1 175mm penetration and 235 gold pen with only 250 dmg thats allready badd an a t7 td we talking t8 now + gues what you even have to upgrade the traks first its really really bad grind have fun XD

i dont remember the stock vk grind however i do remember the stock t-44 grind. the 144 mm pen gun goes brrrr at tier 8
Ever played the polish tier V Medium the 25TP with the 40mm autocanon?
58mm of pen is awesome at tier V...
Well, at the time the VKP had no engine, no tracks, no view range, no armor and the gun had a tremendous 96mm penetration and you needed a minimum of TEN THOUSAND (or FIFTEEN) to be able to fit the upgraded 128mm pen gun and of course after that you had to research the 88L56. Because you needed to unlock, the turret, the tracks before putting any real gun. Of course you were in an even worse brick since you put so much more weight without the engine...
Plus the fact your entire hull side was "Hey! shoot here there is ammunitions!" the front/rear being "hey shoot here I can catch fire!"
But you also had the AMX12 and 13 75. A scout without view range, without mobility neither speed and of course a puny gun + no gun depression AND elevation. And bonus, when you were shot at, you lost most of the time engine, driver and trackS and if lucky didn't catch fire,because why not, or if you were very lucky just went with turret stuck, munitions jammed and ppl in turret dead.
And you also had the IS-4 and VK4502B where you could end with a very bad gun IS-4 ending with D-25T...
IIRC, it is literally impossible to be stuck with the D-25T on the IS-4. You HAVE to research the M62 to research the IS-4.
Also god yes the stock 12t was awful. 100mm of pen on a T6 tank. "Just get the sides" by Tier 6 most tanks have more than 100mm of side armor! And it means you'll get really stupid bounces while fighting off enemy light tanks that just don't happen with other T6 light tanks.
And yes, both the 12t and the 13 75 caught fire on me *a lot*. The other frustrating thing about them for me was I had *awful* RNG with my shots in them. There was one time in my 12t (fully upgraded by this time) where I went to finish off a one-shot IS who was all by himself. I even had APCR loaded and the entire clip with like 200mm pen bounced off of his rear, and then he nuked me while I was trying to run away.
Goddamnit. I left my music on and as soon as Jingles' intro ended, Camoflage performed by Sabaton started to play. Literally at the perfect time
One good thing about the Japanese medium line are shared modules.
Guns, engines, and radios are common amongst the mediums up to tier 8.
They do get good guns and decent maneuverability, but that is about it.

to be honest, if you can spare the 600k for suspension equipment, its *a bit* easier. Otherwise, prepare for a ~30k exp grind for both tracks and turret (stock one has next to no armor) and then there's the fact that you're stuck with Black Prince's gun for another ~15ish thousand. And then there's the engines
It used to be kinda shit at tier 4 but then it got moved to tier 5 with nearly no buffs

@Markus Der Auslander the turret upgrade makes it playable, if gold spam-y. After the gun upgrade, you are pretty much golden. Also, a nice thing to note; most of the engines transfer to the medium branch, so that makes them a bit easier to grind as well

Jingles is more of an all-rounder kinda guy, that's why he hates this and the M3 Lee so much.

@1:40 Looking at the stock Chi-To vs stock T28 (american td), I would happily play the Chi-To. You have about 150% the speeds on h/m/s terrains while having a far greater backup speed. Yes 10.04 P:W (Chi-To) < 11.32 P:W (T8) but the T28's ground resistance is killer. That also includes far worst tank traverse in the T28 and the Chi-To looks enjoyable (with less exp to grind for your upgrades).
Not like I will install the client again to try these in person. Maybe WG could fix new player experience; some day lol (a decade later and I’m still wondering if any of the devs played stock tanks long term).
Dont remember the VK30.01 P being that poor. At least currently its slightly more nippy than the T28 and has significantly less experience to grind.
So according to WG, 1940's Japan couldn't produce a reasonable engine for a medium tank(close to true), but could equip monstrous super-heavies that outmass anything in service to this day with power plants that could make them zip around at 40 km/h or more. Seems legit...
I've had three very painful grinds with stock tanks in WoT. The Chi-To, the VK 100, and the Panther II. The worst was the Panther II followed closely by the Chi-To, and not really close was the VK 100. At the end you get a POS Panther II, a below average Chi-To, and a quite enjoyable VK 100. But I still do have the Chi-To and VK 100.
Jingles - are you implying that WG simply MAKE UP THE NUMBERS on every tank in the game ? AS in "Hey, this tank needs to be nerfed/buffed to fit in to the artificial bracket into which it has been placed" ? Reason #3,276 of why the hell I quit playing this stupid game. Pretty graphics and great sound effects though so makes fro great videos but the game itself ? Unadulterated BS.
That's really surprising as far as well coordinated team work for the enemy Stug III and M44. Normally, as most average WOT players can verify, the Stug would go cap and the arty would be screaming commands as the backseat commanders they tend to be at times. "GO CAP!" "NO CAP, KILL ALL!" "FIND THEM!" "SAVE ME!"
But to have arty go cap was a smart move, as the map lent itself to allowing the M44 being able to slap Mistercro from either bases.
To Mistercro, condolences and congratulations in the same. You fought a good battle with everything stacked against you and you were kicked in the shins right at the end. You didn't deserve that result after that effort with that much resistance in the form of your on vehicle. But you've displayed an amazing amount of skill with the tools (or lack there of) you had in the moment. Great game, disheartening result, but prestige display of talent.👍

At least the Chi-To has a serviceable gun, my worst stock grinds were the AMX-40 and DW2:
AMX-40: All of its available guns are ass, its only speeds are stationary and falling off a cliff. But it at least has Dummy T H I C C armor
DW2: Let's make a tank the size of a Churchill, give it the engine of a motorized bicycle, the armor is only held together with hopes and dreams, its guns are shit, and any time you take a shot from the front your transmission is wrecked
Remember a stock T-34-2 is a tier 8 medium which is already underpowered when top
But stock you have:
T-34-1 turret
128 AP pen 172 APCR pen (tier 6 gun vs tier 10 tanks)
you first need tracks to equip the turret to equip the gun you had at tier 7
at least you have the same engine
You say it's slow, but my Matilda Black Prince is pretty jealous at 10kmh cruising speed and 22 downhill.

Loosing 50 k Credits and only using standard ammo? hmmmm Having "SHIT" Armor and recieving 13 hits but only 5 penns.. Hmmmm He was extreemly lucky and deserves no sympathy what so ever. The right team won the game.
If you think the Chi-To is bad to grind stock, remember when the tier 4 Pz. 38nA used to play in tier 4-9 to scout against tanks with more view range. In theory you could shoot but the top gun 5cm/L60 which you had to grind for still cannot penetrate many a tier 7, 8 or 9 back then. And btw, bang, you're dead. Most tanks only need 2 shots, some only one.
Jingles, for worst tank contender allow me to introduce the stock T34/100. Whose gun has 126 mm base penetration and 165 damage, .4 accuracy and a 7 second reload with a BIA crew.
I have both had a tooth pulled without anesthesia, AND suffered through the VK 30.01 P stock grind. I can assure you Jingles, they both hurt the same, but the stock grind lasts much, much longer.

The M44 definitely tipped the scales. With RNG of course, but then again between 2 players on their ace game, player ability is generally behind RNG in what determines the final outcome... situational skill generally falls behind other minor factors as well... such as who has got the blatantly better vehicle... or has gold loaded...
Another proof that 'RNGesus' is such an faulty misnomer, it should be 'ludicRously Nefarious Gamemechanic'...or something along those lines.

Stock Chi To is an exercise in what would happen if someone put a 4-banger (4 cylinder engine) in something heavier than a Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero...

oh jingles...you should have tryed the ST-1 stock...about as maneuverable as a maus...close to the same speed...and penetration that some tier 6 tanks have...its the 122mm with 175mm pen...god awful...at tier 9 no less...and you cant use the better 122mm guns till you have the turret...but you need to suspension first so you cant even get the turret first to more armour and health...it was painful when i did it years ago...i cant even begin to imagine what it must be like now for the poor buggers

I don't know why everyone hates on the Chi To so much. Admittedly it's horrendous stock, but I remember having quite a bit of fun with it when it's upgraded.
Considering the quality of the player and the amount of free XP he probably has, I'd guess the only reason he'd ever play something like this completely stock is as a masochistic challenge.

Newbie question... Would Mistercro have done better if he'd used his repair kit to fully restore his tracks at the beginning of his mad dash back to the cap circle after he finished off the StuG? I understand it's usually best to keep it in reserve, but he only needed to buy a few extra seconds. Or would that have been too big of a risk?

Worst stock grind I’ve had so far is the tier 5 Polish. That gun can’t even reliably pen tier 3s, and yet it’s supposed to fight tier 7s? Gtfo WG.
I can barely make a fully upgraded Tier 6 Medium work. I'd be someone else's First Blood medal if I had been driving that thing.
I got the chi-nu kai (tier 5 chi-nu with the turret and gun of stock type 4) for free as my first premium tank and oh god why tf did I try to 3 mark this shit tank :(. Dunno why chi-to top gun and chi-ri top gun are the same too. Like auto loader and all but it’s just shit
Why playing a stock Tier 6 tho? Its not like a Tier 8 to 10 vehicle wich takes an tremendous amount of free xp to at least get the important parts unlocked. He even has extra rations on board, so why not?

The type 4 like most late war japanese tanks did not need to go fast, it did not need to go anywhere. The Americans were coming for it. The yanks had destroyed the rail and the shipping so none of the heavies could leave the country and geographically japan is a patch work of hills and valleys that makes tank warfare barely possible. It was designed to smash the marines near the beach head in Kyushu then die valiantry for the emperor. Thankfully the nukes gave the emperor another choice.
All that work and he only got 4k XP. If he had won it would have been doubled. THIS is one reason of many I gave up on World of Tanks, it's so utterly shit. Slot machines on tracks and shit balance.
Jingles' description of the upgraded turret on the Type 4 explains exactly why I don't play WoT anymore.

Playing stock tanks is the ultimate challenge, I had an Ace tanker the other day with the tier 8 Indian Panzer , completely stock , luckily enemy team was full of potatoes

It may be just me...but I didn't find grinding the VK30.01p without using free XP to be that bad
a few yrs ago i somehow managed to get my highest XP game in the Chi To at 2.4k and a bit base XP...To this day still can't remember how I did it and haven't managed to beat that record ever since
