I was a patient of Shriners hospital from the age of 3 to 18. I had a clubfoot that Dr. Ken Quo and Dr. Peter Smith fixed. It was a total of three surgeries from 1984, 1991 and 1999. Now, at 38 I started a charity with Amazon and they donated in my name a nice amount. Thank you for all what you did for me and what your doing for the kids now.

I was a patient of Shriners hospital from the age of 3 to 21. I visited the old Hospital, and watched the new hospital be built. In 1982, I had my spinal fusion in the new facility (I also had my Achilles tendon lengthened in 1988). When I watch this video, and see images of inside the hospital, it brings back good memories. It may sound weird to say "good memories," but I do. They helped me out so much, and I'm very thankful!!

I would also like to mention that, Jeremy could only go to Shriners until he was 18.

Wow it sure looks different. I was a patient there in 1958 and 1959. At that time it didn't look so much like a hospital inside. They did great work then and now. I remember seeing a little five year old girl, walk the hall way to meet her parents on visiting day.. It was the first time in her life her parents had seen her walk.. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Kids were there from all over the country.

Hi, my name is Crystal Bower. In 1981 I had identical twins, my Dr never did any tests to find out. I knew I was having more than 1 baby, but I listened to him, Dr Frank salomone. I was also 2 months early. They were very tiny. I only had one name for a girl and one for a boy. James was born first. I then had to choose a name for the second baby, which we call Jeremy. James was first

Then Jeremy, they took Jeremy away right away, they wouldn't let me see him.. he was black and blue from the top of his hips to his feet. I was happy they were alive, but so worried 😟 they never told me what was wrong with Jeremy. I took him to every childrens hospital I could find, including wylers childrens, and others. His feet and legs were so crooked. One foot was turned in more than the other. His peripherals we're so small and yet his knee caps were large. He had no arches and I couldn't pull his legs down it was as if he was in a fetus position. His arms did not open all the way. Doctors casted him over and over. Each time the feet would look better, but then before we would leave they would go back in. Eventually the doctor decided to try something different. Jeremy was fitted for reverse lace shoes with a bar..to be adjusted every 3 weeks. By this time Jeremy was crawling and was beginning to walk around furniture
I took the bar off myself, I had to see if he would walk and glory be to God, Jeremy took his first steps! He was 18 months old. My husband and I watched as he walked bent over but he never complained. He would just sit down whenever he couldn't walk any longer. My father was a Shriner I remembered and heard about the hospital that was an hour away. I called and scheduled an appointment for him. Jeremy was finally diagnosed with arthogriposis. I want to say I can't remember his name but, he was the head administrator in 1981. I told you all of this because Jeremy had extensive surgery to both his feet and had bone from his hip put in his feet and had screws and washers put in to fuse his ankles. He also had his achelies tendons lengthened. The Dr asked Jeremy if he wanted to have one done at a time or at the same time. Jer said "at the same time". Wow that's been along time ago. Jeremy was 8 that was 1989. Today Jeremy is 40 and is and has pain when he walks. There was no therapy for him, sent him home in mom weight bearing casts and nothing for pain. That child cried for weeks and we had to (out of pocket) rent a wheelchair for months! Then the casts were removed and walking casts were put on. That was for months. Then we had to go some where else to get him fitted for plastic braces to wear in very expensive Nike gym shoes. The costs were phinominal. Insurance wouldn't cover a thing concerning all he needed. Today I follow princess Anna on you tube, she to has arthgriposis. I too wish that there was no time limit on the age of a person who had gone to Shriners because Jeremy is still having problems walking and he is worried the screws are pulling out. He still lives with us. He and James went to private school (baptist) at our church. Not a lot of people and less walking for Jeremy. He has tried to work, but again his feet get tired and has to be careful of uneven surfaces along with ice ECT, ECT. Because his ankles are fused. Not sure if he qaulifies for disability? Need his paperwork from Shriners? How would he go about that? Would like to hear from anyone that might know. My email is bowercrystal12@gmail.com I would appreciate anything you might know. Thank you and God bless.
