Every attachment has its purpose... that Harley rake will not do what a box blade will and a box blade will not do what the Harley rake does.. kind of like a brush hog and a finishing mower there's a difference👍
Cheap tip to get a rear remote if you have front loader. I took two hoses male couplers on one end female on the other. I uncoupled the bucket hoses and plug it in using the bucket function for the rear. Used it for years on my hay roller, also easy to switch back. Cost less than $100.
Was just speaking to a rep about hydraulic top link and all they wanted to push was a 1500$ remote kit as it..." wouldn't ever work that way and would be a waste of time..." lol. Glad to hear someone else thinks same 😉
That is an impressive attachment. I was blown away that it was only $75.00 for a day? Crazy. Gave me some ideas for a section of my property. Subscribed for the wood and got landscape tips as a bonus! Keep’em coming!
Nice job with the rake, box blades are multipurpose and do decent on driveways. A landplane is the proper tool for driveways, built my own and it works great. A 1hr grade on my 700' driveway, now takes about 20min.
That thing really did the trick smoothed everything nicely. Now just get the rocks up and seeded and instant lawn. I was struggling with the comparison to the box blade until you mentioned using it on your driveway. Take care brother
No doubt, a York Rake, Harley Rake is a badass beast. I used a 7’ one on the front of a skid steer some years back to remove rocks, grade out an acre of land, then to regrade my hard pack driveway. I love them! As a rental, and for such purposes, it’s the best way to go. My only quibble is that comparing one to a box blade is kind of unfair. As you mentioned, a York Rake costs $7,000 to buy, whereas a box blade is closer to $700-1,500. Plus, the box blade is useable with a simple three point hitch. I’ve been very happy with my 5’ box blade for grading and hogging out driveways. It’s a beast in it’s own right. Great results though! I love power rakes! But I also love box blades. 🤙
I didn’t think that plow was goin to work very good when you showed it butttt you proved me wrong you’ve got that looking just like it needs to and you achieved what you was after thanks for sharing
Nice attachment. A landscape rake (one with the multiple fixed curved tines) works pretty good on something like this too. For really rocky soil, remove every other tine so the rocks don't clog it up. IF you on a major road, or close to one, a hoop house growing bedding plants is a major income producer too. Your ground looks perfect for it.
Power rake worked great adam. I'm fixing the ditch in front of my house right now. A good friend of mine owns a golf course here and he said to seed it after the first light snowfall.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned it in comments but you need to tilt rake back and let it ride on the back wheels! It helps to level everything up as rake will ride on the finished product while tractor is riding rough in tilled ground cheers and keep on producing great content
Im just south of you and I'd say seed and straw it now, the heavy dew (and frost this morning) will be enough to get the grass growing. If you wait you're just giving the weeds a head start.
Don’t make the same mistake I made with straw. I got some from Lowe’s. Finally figured out what nearly killed all my plants. The straw had been sprayed with chemicals. Thanks to Down South Homestead. He had a video about it.
Cool piece of equipment. I kinda chuckled when you said it was crazy that there was no rain in the forecast for 15 days. We go 6 months plus without a drop out here on the West Coast. We think it’s crazy if we get any rain between May and November. 😂
Hey Adam! The power rakes are amazing! We had our project area poweraked prior to hydroseeding and what a finish it left! Grass came in perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Adam, they are a nice piece of equipment. Another quality video out of your studio! We have been running a "Harley Power Box Rake" prepping lawns for at least twenty years. There is a learning curve that goes along with them. I've read several fairly negative remarks here which I feel are uncalled for. I did notice the rake wasn't adjusted properly, which I would lay blame on the rental source for not coaching you in the proper adjustment to your tractor and conditions. Thereby making a little more work for you in the long run. We didn't see the second or third pass, so you may have dialed it in before you were finished with your project. When they're fine tuned, the gauge wheels ride on the surface and the top link of the 3 point hitch floats about halfway through the top slot allowing for uneven ground to be shaved off. On the final pass it is desirable to have the carbide nubs only engage the soil at about 1/2 to 1'' of depth, thereby just whisking the stones and debris off the surface. With a little more seat time you would likely be ready to sow seed after the 2nd pass with very little to no hand raking. The dead grass always make for the most challenging part of the project. Bless'ns to ya, Tedd
@@adventurerhoades : Good morning Joshua! Not necessarily. It depends on if you’re buying, renting or borrowing... The expense of a box blade is much easier to justify. You can more easily perform this process with a box scraper in dry/hard conditions, especially if it has the scarifier teeth. Whereas the power rake will want to bounce across the surface when it’s super dry. If conditions are moist, the power rake will produce a much nicer finish. We use the power rake to grade new driveway installs and it does a beautiful job, but after the gravel is compacted and has been driven on for a few seasons, a box blade will work better. For my own use, I wouldn’t buy a power rake. However as a business we love it. You might look into a land plane, then again the soil conditions will factor in on those as well. Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
One more attachment to add to the list to remind guys when they buy a tractor get it with rear remotes. Also a hydraulic top link would accel in this application by controlling depth on the go. If folks get attachments that need to angle like this go buy 2 matching female hydraulic coupler, plumb back to back, hook attachment hoses together with this adapter, turn equipment by hand, uncouple hoses.
Thanks Adam! I have never seen one of those before. Looks like a really effective attachment. Thanks for the demo - the area turned out really good. Cheers!
Nice job. We're heading over to the Boot Box today to grab some new steel toe boots. We live a little northwest of you and get lake effect rains occasionally this time of year. I'm hoping it stays dry enough to get a few more Ash trees out of our swampy area at our farm. The last time I could get in there was July'ish.
looks good! Just did a big section with a pulverizer (same thing without PTO power kind of) In the 90's with no rain but I figured the seed might as well be in the dirt than on the shelf in the store and after about 2 weeks we got some rain and it popped right up! I put a little straw down too.
Go ahead and seed and fertilize. It will come up with the dew. I would have seeded and then ran over lightly with the power rake to lightly cover the seed. Looking good!!!!
I would have collected the stones after each pass for it seems that you were burying them again on the second pass. I own and use several implements but there is no way you can skip manual work if you want the job well done. A hug from Portugal.
Box blades work great when you use a hydraulic top link to adjust your blade angle from the seat and that set up is a heck of a lot cheaper a rock rake is great also but it is a rock rake not a land leveler Lila a good operator with a box blade
Nice job with that power rake. Like stated before, a little more length on that top link. I would also suggest if you have the chance to use it again would be to do a pass perpendicular or 90 degrees to the first three passes. You'd be amazed at how level and smooth it would be, but what you have done looks really really great.
Hi, nice video, nice unit! You said the machine is angled so the rocks roll out to the side. If thats the case, shouldn't the black, blocking piece of steel (shows clearly at 2:28) be flipped open so the rocks and weeds roll out to the side?? You can clearly see that its hinged for that purpose.
How did this turn out? I haven’t seen any updated videos. I have 4 acres of field I would love to level and plant proper grass on but its quite the undertaking. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the vid and well done. From the shirt I see you're in Meadville. No rain for 15 days? We're in WNY and we don't see sun for 15 days this year!
Save one of your totes n clean it out n put a pvc pipe on the back w holes in it.you already have a shut off.i use mine for watering my dusty driveway n watering gardens.they work great.
Isn’t it defeating purpose of the angled blade by not continually pushing the rocks to the right? Start on the left side of the field and work your way to the right thus pushing the rocks always to the right?
Watch alot of your videos and enjoy them. May I ask where you are located. You mentioned northwest PA. I grew up on a farm years ago in Warren P A., Just curious. Thanks
Should start in the middle with that setup. Drive down and turn around and come back beside your first pass. From there you just keep looping around to the left until your last loop is down the sides pushing all of the rocks out of the patch.
Random watcher here. I’m currently clearing 2.8 acres with about 5-7 degrees elevation across and aiming at building up wild grass turf. A tiller attachment should have been used first, and actually would have done almost the same job. That is a fine finishing tool should have been used after a tiller or disk. The harley rakes are meant to smooth and kick out rocks. Was not used properly should not have been pulling it that fast with all that dirt piled up like that either. This is why rental stores have to charge so much cause people break things not using them properly. I have been in excavating for 25 years yeah it worked but not done properly.
Sometimes rental is the way to go. Late model equipment and no deep equity required on your part. Even if you use it for a week, still cheaper that tying up valuable funds.

I'm waiting to seed my yard and yup, no rain in sight. We are really dry here as well. But that power rake is awesome. Thanks for sharing with us!
Extend that top link where the gauge wheels rest on the ground, then adjust your 3pt for fine tuning!
Yes it's supposed.to float !
Yep yep yep and would have been smoother as well
Yep
Too busy setting up a drone and camera instead of setting up his attachment :) Unchained PTO shaft as well... very naughty.

Should start in the middle with that setup. Drive down and turn around and come back beside your first pass. From there you just keep looping around to the left until your last loop is down the sides pushing all of the rocks out of the patch.
That was cool. When you seed, do you need to put soil on top of the seed or does the seeder push them down?
I wish all Kubota dealers rented attachments. I'm in central PA and nobody within 50 miles rents 3 point hitch attachments.

Should have windrowed the rocks into a few rows. It would have come much cleaner and certainly saved some work.
This is just a small rock rake. When I farmed I had a 14 ft rock rake. It did a beautiful job of leveling the field, and of course putting the rocks into a row which made them easy to pick

I think it was due to leveling action of the rake, not letting those little pools of water drown out the plants. So the black doors on the side will swing out of the way to your debris dump side and you will work the material from one side to the other
No rear remotes? If you have forward facing 3rd-channel connections just get a set of extenders made.
Did you end up buying one of those rock buckets for future uses?
make the rest of the field into a native grass prarie. attract lots of wildlife and they look great.

sun chokes look great .
You should run that thing down a gravel driveway with a crown on it and some big nasty rocks so you can compare it to a box blade
A lawn and trees will look nice. Do you have any plans to make the land work for you like crops, or stabling horses, etc.?
A tiller attachment should have been used first, and actually would have done almost the same job. That is a fine finishing tool should have been used after a tiller or disk. The power rake wouldn't grade the driveway though. I think the box scrape blade would be better for that application.
You are going to keep the rocks there because you may have a use for them down the road........how does that work :-)
Sometimes rental is the way to go. Late model equipment and no deep equity required on your part. Even if you use it for a week, still cheaper that tying up valuable funds.
a box blade is used to fill over trail and drive ways low spots right?
I vote for the cornfield!
The hell with curb appeal, tme to put in a par 3.
To some, that IS curb appeal!
I know what i;d do, in the interest of community relations. Sweet corn would have a positive effect on the neighbors after a meal or two

Yes, right now we’re waiting for the new splitter to get here but we’re gonna head back in the woods and start taking some trees down
Hi ,was wondering would the rake work on untouched land ?
Probably not. Even a 3pt tiller doesn't do all that great on untouched ground.
