Great Job Tim!!! The pulverizer looked like it did a great Job.That was a great suggestion to the homeowner to have him spray the roundup before hand. I will say around here we do not plant seed in the summer we do most of our seed planting in the fall. Seems to germinate better and come up better than in the summer. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend. God Bless!!!
Great stuff family !! Thank you all so much!! When I was young, I remember before seeding a new hay field my Dad would plow with a moldboard plow , then disc it up good and finally take an old set of bed springs ,add rocks for weight , and drag it down good . He would pick the rocks from the field . Then plant the seed. We trusted the Good Lord for the watering !!! Things sure have changed !!! God bless you all and keep you in the Palm of His Hand !!!! What a great video. We have sold our small farm and moved to a 1 acre plot in town. So going from 82 hp to a little machine will be a challenge. A great video and Thank You for the time it took. More Please.
Such perfect timing for me to see this video! I have a side lot that has a lot of ups and downs from settling after we razed the house and filled in the basement. It's also extremely rough for mowing, so smoothing it would be nice. My goal is to pull a lot of the dirt from the high areas into the valleys, then level it all and smooth it all out. A lot of tiller and box-blade work, for sure. I was just going to start by tilling the current grass into the soil, but it appears that dead grass would be much quicker to till under. Good info from this video. Thanks for yet another informative video!
I know I will get blasted for saying this, but skip the box blade. You’ll find the loader much faster, and you’ll still have the tiller attached so that you can ‘hitter again’ after moving some dirt. If you don’t have a tiller, get one :-)
No blast from here! You're my guru for working the soils of the midwest. I know all about working the deserts of So Cal, but this is a whole new world for me. Yes, I do have the JD 647 tiller and the teeth on the bucket. Thanks for the advice. Will do that.
This looks great guys. You did everything right with what you have to work with. I did get a larger tractor for my work to get those type of jobs done quicker. Excellent videos, Thanks.
Tractor Time with Tim l am on my second 39 hp.. Massey Ferguson. It is a hydro. The first was a standard transmission. Hydro is much better for my applications. Thanks, Al.
Great tilling job. It’s traditional to drag around a ladder with a couple of tires or sod rolls for weight. It does a great job of levelling a wide swath. Most of us have an old ladder. I think the wooden ones worked the best ; )
Mike, I just got my 1025R two months ago and I can't believe how many projects I use it for around my property. Not only does it do those jobs you would never do by hand, but it magically makes you envision others that you never dreamed of. FWIW, I was waiting to get mine until I could pay cash for it, but with JD's 60 month no-interest financing why wait. It costs you nothing extra! Go for it this season! You won't regret it!
Robert Bunch I’m a heavy equipment operator and people are always asking me to do things but they don’t want to rent the proper equipment heck maybe I’ll do what Tim does and hire myself and the 1025
Glad you are enjoying them. That is our intention. Anyone can set up a tripod and video their tractor. It is not so easy to make it entertaining for a viewer.
Another option for smoothing out the yard beside the soil pulverizer would be a good ole set of box springs. I had to have aseptic tank line put in. I drug a set around with my mower. They worked great. Just a suggestion.
Evening Christy&Tim. Enjoyed the video and thanks for taking us along. Looks like the soccer field turned out pretty good. Y'all have a blessed weekend.
Looks like a job well done. It will be tough on the blue grass to stand up to a soccer match. I think I saw Johnny smiling as you pulled the soil pulverizer around
Looks great guys. I have 20 acres in SE Arizona and am getting ready to do a bunch of earth works for rainwater redirection, ponds and paddocks. I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks
Tractor Time with Tim Would you like to see videos of John Deere 2 series doing jobs like yours? If you would please check out my friends and mines RUclips channel called "John Deere Compact Tractors". Currently we are using a 2520 and 2025r for our projects and sometimes a Deere 333G skid steer.
You can come and do my hole yard anytime soon :-) you and Johnny did a great job of leveling and preparing the playing field. The kids just need to play Soccer :-)
Nice. Why do you want to dig deeper? I have a new house built with a 1.5 acres of lot from farm. It has ridges for the water run, so I need to level it out. I was thinking of instead of tilling it I will use landscape rake or soil preparator to level the 1.5 acres soil. What do you think?
If you're really in search of rain, you need to come to New York. We've been getting it all week. Where I live, I got as much as 3.5 inches an hour one day. Other than that, very nice video. Have a beautiful weekend. God bless.
Thanks for your quick reply I bought the smaller 1023e and i am super impressed with the versatility of it and i have been watching your videos to get good ideas and info and now i just became a life time subscriber to your channel for the quick reply thanks and keep on doing what you do
Would you still recommend a soil pulverizer? I am looking at ordering a Frontier SP2060B with one roller, unless if you would recommended the $580 for the second roller. I have a bumpy yard and am looking to level it, I too also have a tiller for prep work if needed. They look like a nice tool, not cheap but what implement isn't
My main issue with it is how it drags up sod or anything other than pulverized soil. You can get the job done with it. I’ve never used the double roller version.
Impressive. You guys have really got some confidence going on. Great to see the finished product as well... Can you send me a quote for 1 acre of tilling septic lines in the Strathbogie ranges Vic Aust? LOL
Definitely going to be A level playing field 👍 All we have rock and gravel with A skim of topsoil same as in Paul Short’s yard work videos he’s only 10 min away from me

Interesting video. For levelling a large area quickly after it has been rototiller and pulverized, you may want to develop a homemade implement - imagine an eight or ten foot wooden ladder being drug behind Johnny with a couple of car tires for weight. The longer the ladder the quicker the job gets done and the easier it is to level. Just have your ropes lead from Johnny to eyelets in the ladder. If you use this implement a lot you can place angle iron on the two leading edges. It is primitive but it works great. You will still have to work the corners by hand but the lion's share of the levelling will get done quickly. Paint it JD green and it will blend in great with the rest of your JD gear. Michael
Love your videos guys! I recently bought a John Deere S240 and plan on doing alot of work with it! And while it's not a Johnny it will get the job done. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Try sand unload a couple of dump trucks and level, it mixes in with the dirt, it fills in all low spots. Check out several RUclips videos on this "Sand Leveling Lawn"
A box scrapper would have been a great tool to level with. That’s what I use when leveling a hay field I doze to remove rocks, trees, brush and holes. Then I go over it with the box, granted I have a 12’ scrapper but the box scrapper does a really nice job. Just my 2 cents is all.
Tractor Time with Tim I can understand that I guess. Pull-type is use-limited. I have a hydraulic top link that lets me precisely adjust angle from the cab. I have extremely good results with a 3-point mount. I’m using Everything Attachments 120” high horse box which I think is the best built scrapper I’ve ever used and seen. I guess our opinions can’t really be compared fairly because I use a 16 foot HD tiller and then the box scrapper. If I have a lot of high or low spots, I sometimes use a Harley rake on my skid steer to speed up moving of material. The Harley rake is also great for final soil prep. Although I don’t broadcast seed, I drill everything but it’s a real luxury for me to have a beautifully graded hay field free of holes and bumps.
Good job Tim! That is a BIG yard! It's going to be hard to water. I've would have waited until September to do this. Easier to grow new grass in September!
I use 6 tine. Look at my website for detailed tiller discussion. Evaluated all options. Pulverized definitely levels, but can be frustrating because it drags up sod, etc.
I suppose ‘level’ is technically the wrong term. We got it smooth and consistent. It has a slope to the far end. But hey, you have to admit that the title was clever :-)
To Tim, and Dave, In CA I did a lot of ground leveling and simple scraping to remove all growth in the So. Cal. desert. I used a 10ft long piece of 8" channel iron with lots of 1/4" X 1" "blades" welded to the flat side, and for smoothing and leveling I would flip it over. I connected it with just a long chain to my tow ball, and used my 3-point hoist-boom with a couple of chains to lift it for turns and to back it into tight spaces. A very simple, inexpensive and effective land plane. Yes, it would have helped cut the time on this job for leveling and smoothing.
Tractor Time with Tim so I need a recommendation on implements it’s a 1023e and I need to level and clear grass yard , ah cut brush and small thorny things umm and probably do some tilling for a garden
It may sound like a dumb question but, isn't the soil pulverizer kind of like using the old spring tooth drag? or what is the actual benefit/ use? another great video. Thanks
Not stupid at all. I think the power rake might be a bit more versatile. Better in wet soil, better in rocks, better at leveling. Tiller fluffs up the soil more...which has advantages too!
contractors mix seed from a landscape supply, granular lime, and starting fertilizer is honestly much better than the home cheapo seed but who am I to be an armchair quarterback. Did you do any raking by hand?
I have a drop spreader that turns inside by wheel action. I tow it with my large Deer mower or my 1025. I spread seed and chemical to cover the ground. I've run stripes (48" wide) of wold flowers in several parts of the yard. Wish I had your roller.
That rock is like a pebble. I found rocks the size of basketballs when excavating for my shop up here in SE Minnesota! That's one thing I miss about Nebraska (where I grew up)....when you stick a shovel in the ground there, all you find is dirt.
Working with a tractor is, typicaly, a no-no over a septic field., I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but it only take a little to impact the drain field.
Why not use a box blade or land plane? I'm not totally sure the difference (yet) & have never done this (yet) but seems that tilling then pulverize (assuming it does exactly what it sounds like) then a box blade blade or land plane to level it all out would be the way?
Tim, I have several acres of land I want to level out. I have tilled it as you did in this video but it is still quite bumpy. I tried dragging it but the drag immediately got loaded up with dead sod. I tried a backblade turned backward, and it either just floated over the ground or grabbed sod and dumped them in big piles. I don't have a soil pulverizer. Should I just wait for the sod to rot down (how long?)?? Have you ever used a Box Blade to level open ground? To me that seems like it would work good once the sod has been dealt with. How about using a Landscape Rake to rake out the sod roots? Ever try that? Any suggestions on how to make this type of job go better? How about a Harrow Drag/rake? Ever use one? Thanks.
Of all those, a harrow or other drag item like a pallet, etc would work best. As for the sod, first, keep tilling. I till 4,5, 6 times of necessary. Also, killing the grass before you start is best. You can wait a week or two until after a rain (or water it), then till again. That sod is hard to deal with, but as you can see in this and other videos, it can be done.
If you are going to own two tractors, buy the cab for the second one if you do winter work. I swore I would never buy a cab because I don't like them in simmer. At 66, and 15 this Thanksgiving morning with snow around the corner, I want a cab. Happy Thanksgiving TTWT Team.
I doubt it. Too painful. We weren’t looking for ‘flat/level’. We just wanted consistently smooth. Hard to explain, but the level is mathematical, like a computer. Sometimes you need something more complex.
Interested in hearing your take on how the 1025r performs with the soil pulverizer as compared to a land plane. I need to level a part of our church yard (about an acre) and I have Tiller and a box blade. I though about getting a land plane or a soil pulverizer to finish level the area so the elderly and kids at our congregation to do not trip and fall. I may just try the box blade and then decide if additional implements are needed. Any advice you could impart would be greatly appreciated.
Tim, did you guys ever consider a magnatrac small dozer? They make a Diesel powered one now with a 35 horsepower Kubota diesel. It looks like a interesting piece of equipment and I think it might be quite useful for you possibly.
@@TractorTimewithTim interesting..Im not anti roundup just from what I read it takes up to a year to fully clear being still active for 40 -60 days..there were a lot of variances in the different literature, but all agreed some residual. Anyways looks like the lawn came in fine so its moot.

How much time elapsed between you all leveling the yard and this final photo. How long did it take for the grass to grow ?
I got a question, why do you have the home owners kill the area with roundup first?
Much easier to deal with the soil when the sod is less thick. Otherwise, we have large clumps of sod to deal with.

Good stuff enjoyed that!!
Tim, the 1025 could easily haul a hydroseed tank. You could spread some John Deere grass seeds :)
I really enjoy seeing the Bible verses at the end of the videos
How long did that take? You could have knocked it out in one pass with our machine :)
We would be happy to try one. contact me via email tim at tractortimewtihtim dot com
You didn’t go over with a multi Tyne ripper fist to get the depth you talked about at the end?
Tim Christi what a job how long did it take my yard in the back about an acre it needs some work now we know what to expect
God Bless
PaK
I spent probably 4 hours on it.
Hi
If you had it witch you don't a power rake would help after the tilling for the grading
If you are going to own two tractors, buy the cab for the second one if you do winter work. I swore I would never buy a cab because I don't like them in simmer. At 66, and 15 this Thanksgiving morning with snow around the corner, I want a cab. Happy Thanksgiving TTWT Team.
Larger tractor may break septic tank. Love your videos. You guys are great.
Me with a carabao hears "it will take a long time to till!" Haha
How can I find this tiller atachment?
Please post current photo. I bet it looks fine.
Haven't been back to the property, but yes, I'm sure it looks great!
Would using a laser level helped in this job?
I doubt it. Too painful. We weren’t looking for ‘flat/level’. We just wanted consistently smooth. Hard to explain, but the level is mathematical, like a computer. Sometimes you need something more complex.
Tractor Time with Tim have you ever used a large wide drag for leveling?
Interested in hearing your take on how the 1025r performs with the soil pulverizer as compared to a land plane. I need to level a part of our church yard (about an acre) and I have Tiller and a box blade. I though about getting a land plane or a soil pulverizer to finish level the area so the elderly and kids at our congregation to do not trip and fall. I may just try the box blade and then decide if additional implements are needed. Any advice you could impart would be greatly appreciated.
Just dragging something like a pallet might work well for that.
Tim it soundmore and more like you are getting the go ahead signal for a bigger tractor. Maybe not a cab though...yet.
I wonder how an area drag would work on places like that?
Probably would work well.
LOL....Dear lord....let this man get some rain so his water bill isn't $5000 lol.....love it looked great at the end
I wonder how he kept that watered well?
Tim, did you guys ever consider a magnatrac small dozer? They make a Diesel powered one now with a 35 horsepower Kubota diesel. It looks like a interesting piece of equipment and I think it might be quite useful for you possibly.
What would that cost approximately....?
Need a stone burier/blecavator/rotadarion to get a perfect surface with one tool.
All those big words make it sound like a wonderful tool!
Tractor Time with Tim different names for the same thing.
I think the gallons of roundup may have something to say about the new seed
Roundup has no residual effects.
@@TractorTimewithTim interesting..Im not anti roundup just from what I read it takes up to a year to fully clear being still active for 40 -60 days..there were a lot of variances in the different literature, but all agreed some residual. Anyways looks like the lawn came in fine so its moot.
Nope. Roundup is contact kill only.
