Oh, boy, this has changed the game for me! My hips were always moving upward. In the last week, by focusing on driving them down and through the ball, I am hitting everything much longer and straighter and purer. Wow. Thank you, Chris!
Chris, I have been working on this for a while now. I have known my weight transfer has been sub-par and my swing used too much arm and not enough of my legs and body, but I have struggled making the change. I tried the new movement while I watched the video and it felt very odd (a good sign, right?) and much more athletic and powerful. It was also less work to get a comfortable finishing position. For me, hearing "falling onto your left" seems to have been the key. It really allowed my move to start in my feet and legs instead of my hips, and I think if I keep working on this it could be a huge improvement for me. I am so envious of you guys who can play this time of year. I am raring to get to the range to try this!
Hello Chris.. this is great. For the life of me I couldn't fix my trail shoulder coming over to start the downswing. I realized after watching Alistairs lastest video on side bend and extending in the backswing that I wasn't extending enough in the backswing. I was also too steep in the transition. Instead of coiling up in an upwards spiral like fashion I was rotating too much around the spine and not extending. Then I put this drill along with that one to help me get a feel for shifting pressure so I don't bottom out too soon. What a difference. my swing now falls into the inside out with ease with my elbow right at the hip. Unfortunately I'm in NY so the net in the basement will have to do for a while. Thanks for all the great lessons, you guys at the Forest of Arden know your stuff!
This year I am focused on getting all the way on to my front leg and not hanging back in the golf swing. This video really shows what I may have been doing with my hips to prevent that.
Man I can so relate to this video I saw this video this morning earlier I watched it several times I was due to play this afternoon but as the forecast is pants and its tipping it down here now I had some old canes that were in my tomato plants so I practiced this at home for an hour or so before going to the range I got a couple of strange looks with the cane in place but hey what's the point of going with a goal in mind and then just bashing balls so for the first 30 or so one practice swing with cane in place then hit a ball after that initial batch I then hit the remaining 30 or so without it I've got to say this is certainly for me the best drill I've ever used ball striking so much improved and hands less active and a much better shot dispersion even with 3 and 4 irons great video thanks
Hi Chris brilliant after months of overloading on my trail leg but not swaying which I've fixed this is the next part I need to conquer. Simple and so clear. Thank you.
Thank you Chris Your video helped me so much to get better impact. No more thin shots! Worked great on the range. Can't wait to try it out on the course.
Really clear explanation, thanks Chris. My main improvement target is to strike the ball nearer the centre of the club face; my bad miss is low and near the heel, worst case a shank. I've noticed that if I strike the middle of the face then even a half swing sends the ball miles
Amazing, and simple..Words do matter Falling to the lead side instead of bumping the hips forward! BIG DIFFERENCE!! Currently working on how to draw with a 3 wood and the driver.
I am working on exactly this. However, due to illness and injury over the last few weeks I haven't been able to hit golf balls, so its all indoor work, both without a club but also swinging a club without a ball. I am trying to do this at the same time as eliminating my tendency to early extend. One of the things I have come to realise is that I need more of a move forward on the downswing ( people seem to talk of moving pressure these days although I prefer to call it force) at the same time as not overdoing it or having too many "moving parts" in my swing.
Awesome video Chris, that is exactly what I have been doing wrong trying to bump my hips forward and then ending up too much on my back foot love the thought of falling forward!!🏌
Loved the analogy of 'falling'.....this makes perfect sense to me. I have only recently taken up golf as a rather mature lady....so your videos are so incredibly helpful. Thank you
my part time job is working at a golf course where there are simulators. i'm definitely going to try to work on this drill, hopefully this fixes my downswing issue. Thank you so much!
Really enjoying your tutorials mate. Struggling with my driver though to a point that I Tee off with my 5 iron. I have a terrible slice and it's adding at least 10 strokes to my game. I am fairly comfortable with irons as they tend to go straight however as soon as I get hold of a wood my drive goes downhill. What am I doing wrong? From a frustrated expat now living in Australia 🇦🇺
Thought that was excellent. Like others, I struggle to avoid the dreaded 'over the top' action and other flaws have crept in as I try to solve that. I can now see that I lift the lead hip, so thanks for that practice tip. I'm 71, play off 13, lost lots of CH speed - help!!
Thanks Chris, this is something that I have been working on for awhile now and wasn’t sure where I was going wrong. I’m getting up right now to try this out. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Again a very well presented video. I am constantly fighting a driver slice. Your video ‘ Hit Driver from the inside ‘ is excellent. I play well for a couple games, then I go back to my old ways without realising, start all over again, try to dial it out.
Hi. Regards from Chile. Now I’m trying to works on my hips on driver. Sometimes, more that I want, I use more arms than hips+arms and ball goes left. Great channel and thanks for your videos and drills.
Great, simple and helpful drill. I have been trying to get the pelvis to get a little lower or “sit” like Tiger ,Rory and the boys. The his will probably help because I fight early extension in the impact area. Thanks.
Great video Chris - this is what I am working on now to try and stop the legs sliding, upper body falling back and losing height and the shove to the right / flippy hands causing the hook. When I do it right, the strike and compression on the ball is amazing - but still tend to fire hips left and high rather than falling onto left side and keeping hip low - need to get the alignment stick and strap working!!
Working on swinging from the inside, holding forearm angle on the down swing, the low stinger (including a low punch shot on a windy par 3). Thanks Chris!
Hi Chris after a few years out with back injury I have come back to the game and I have a slight over the top motion that I am working on removing. Using the swing plane app and the stop at the top drill it’s getting better but it’s a persistent fault to say the least.
Had a couple of lessons regarding consistent strike. Being taught stack and tilt method. I amd concentrating on weight more on left and shoulder alignment
Another great tip Chris! I've been working on wrist angles and hitting the ball first this off season. I've also worked on taking the club back outside the line a bit which has encouraged me to hit from the inside instead of coming over the top. It'll be below zero the next few days here in Pennsylvania, USA. Eleven of my buddies and I are heading to sunny Florida in a couple weeks. I'm hoping to put your tips to the test and pocket some cash from my mates. Thanks and keep up the good work!
What's up Chris. I'm working on my swing by trying to stop wrapping the club around me and laid off in the backswing, in which causes me to swing o er the top in the downswing.
Hi Chris your series are really good. I'm trying to improve the flight of my irons as I have a problem with the longer irons. It's more a lack of confidence as I hit the higher irons reasonably well. Any tips or drills would be great.
Thanks Chris! I'm working on changing my swing and one of the things I couldn't get my head around was this weight shift to start the downswing. This video made the coin drop... :-)
I found out that I wasn’t too far off from this move. I just need to work on my timing. My swing is getting better since I retired, and started to change to a sweeter swing, and this move will definitely help. Thanks!
That's exactly what i do in my swing but been unable to understand how to rectify it. What a superb tutorial video you cover all aspects of golf and remedies keep up the hard work :)
Great video. The problem I struggle with is alignment. Trying to line myself up to the left of the target, invariably I push the shot. What should you be seeing over the left shoulder when aligning properly.
Hi Kim, really tough to say as will depend on how you rotate your head, alignment is tough for many though, just keep good habits during practice and should help 👍
Thanks Chris for a very good and clear instruction. Currently working on this exact point as one of the steps to get club to come more from the inside. So this video really hit home. Keep them coming!
Great analogy about falling on the lead hip. Have a tendency to lead with my arms which causes manny mis-strikes. Should you feel your arms trail the hips as they come through?
Hey Chris - my primary downswing fault is turning my shoulders before the hips. I cringe when I see videos of it. I can say that the bump sway of weight foward does relieve the issue. Something I need to work on. For some strange reason, my issue is more prevalent with irons when hitting off the tee box. Perhaps just in my head? Thanks for the great work!
Thanks again for an excellent piece of online coaching. I'm currently working (i.e. struggling!) on the coordination of hip rotation, and the weight shift.
Great content Chris! I tend to move forward/slide towards the objetive in the donwswing. This is generating some early release and my hips going up instead of down, causing all kind of shots and inconsistency. What can i do? Thanks!
I'm working on making consistent contact with the ball. The weight shift is a big problem for me because I don't hit my clubs as far as I think I should. So I'm working on that and getting the shaft lean as well
Very well explained Chris. This pressure shift is what I'm currently working on. I'm trying also to keep my head behind the ball which tends to give me the fault you've described, left hip high. If I get this right should it help improve my plane and more of an in to out path? I also need to focus on better shaft lean at impact to improve compression, hopefully one of your videos will help.
Hi Chris.. I'm confused on 4:39 with your another video call shallow your golf swing.. In 4:39, isn't that movement its shallow your golf swing? Hopefully you can clarify more in detail
I have been hitting over the top for years. I love your videos they're great. I play Saturday and Sunday every week. As soon as I reach the top of the swing my right knee goes forward and my right shoulder rotates I hit outside in losing control and distance I'm 55 years old. Please help me. John blagg luton
Hi Chris I’m a life time slicer until tweeking several things you’ve told me = Now only my driver 50% of the time ---the problem is swing plane (😕is that how you spell plane😀) it’s good on practice swing but keep reverting to steep / across myself any drills
Chris, just the video I need !! Been working on the pressure shift but when I use your feel idea, I get head in front of ball and suffer from pushes. How can you shift forward whilst keeping head centred?
Looking forward to the rest of the series. I've picked up something from all your videos and it's really improved my swing. Heading toward single digits. The cold (in NY) makes it tough to really practice regularly, so it's lots of putting on the carpet. I'd like to do an on-line lesson. Would a video with a practice plastic ball work?
Hi Chris, thanks for the great lesson. I have been working in this area transition/downswing and would love to see more about the rotation of the hips and hand path. You seem to be clearing your right hip as your hands come into the ball .... all nicely synced up. Others seem to be insistent on getting the hips out of the way before hitting....thoughts?
Just back to golf for about a year after long term(8 years out) shoulders injury. Speed dropped dramatically, so need to get that back as much as possible. Bad shots come from poor torso/ shoulder rotation and legs get lazy and stop driving and turning. As you would expect, worst part of my game is from 100 yards and in to say 10-15 yards, where it starts to be ok again. Oh, and bunker play! Hit everything clean! Now off 11, was 3 before injury.
I'm making quite a big swing change.I've gone from over the top to a rotational action but struggle clearing my body and releasing the club.I tend to hold off the club as a legacy of my over the top swing
Great video Chris. I’m having issues with my arms going first in the downswing before my lower body forcing me to go over the top. Any drills/ideas to help try and fix this?
Currently I am working on my early extention by initiating the downswing with my lower body and then adding more rotation with passive hands. Being in Canada, it has all been practicing the movement in front of a mirror. I am loking forward to actually hitting some balls in Phoenix in a week or so.
Since you asked, my biggest problem is topped shots with the longer irons. I have been killing my driver lately and my chips and putts are good but that second shot with a 6, 5, 4 or 3 iron is a struggle. I'm not expecting to stick it near the flag from 160 yards but if I could just make solid contact.
Awesome content, I was working on my wedge game this weekend. And kept hitting it fat and I believe this was part of the issue. Also believe my attack angle was too steep. Will put this into practice this week
Thanks Chris for you video's are well done and great info! I strike the driver well but tendency is to push the ball right with little curvature. Any thoughts or previous video? Thanks
Hi Mark, sounds like a club path issue if there is little curve. Path is most likely in to out to cause this, path work should help. I did a video about how to stop push abs pull shots, should help 👍
Hi Chris. Have you thought about a bunker series??? They seem to be like gold dust. Plenty content of how to get out but not enough on the spin, distance on longer shots and position of the ball for various bunker play. Cheers... another great video!!
Thanks Karl, your right I’ve never done a bunker series, will have to wait a few months though as winter bunkers don’t make for a grea series, will look to film this though 👍
Didn't Hogan( best ball striker ever) raise is left hip up while moving towards his left side? Was it because he raised his left heel off ground on backswing? Thanks
Hi Chris, Great tip, Clean ball strike and compression, this is another aspect of my game I am looking forward to working on and improving when we get together soon Kev G
Great idea for a series, and excellent timing! The biggest thing I'm working on this season is keeping my trail elbow in line with the lead at the top of the backswing to shallow my swing. That also means means correcting my way-too-strong grip (that I've needed to keep it straight-ish), changing two things at once to get my game where I want it to be. Any thoughts on the mental game of trying to change multiple pieces of your swing at the same time?
Good information. I'm just starting again after putting down the clubs for 15 years. This corrects an old fault from restarting.
Your tricks to teach. us are so we’ll illustrated and accurate that I always become impatient to try them at the practice, and IT WORKS!!!
Oh, boy, this has changed the game for me! My hips were always moving upward. In the last week, by focusing on driving them down and through the ball, I am hitting everything much longer and straighter and purer. Wow. Thank you, Chris!

Trawling your old videos - I’m always working on my swing and I’m guilty of making that bad rehearsal move. I’ll be trying this from now on. Thanks 😊
So easy when explained in layman’s terms, brilliant , so simple, thanks again
Chris it is great to see, what we need to do correctly to make a good golf swing. Keep the detail for a great swing coming.
This year I am focused on getting all the way on to my front leg and not hanging back in the golf swing. This video really shows what I may have been doing with my hips to prevent that.
Thanks Chris im working on my weight shift and what my wrist is doing in my back swing
Great! Exactly what I’ve been working on - but the wrong way. I’ll be trying this!!
Hi Chris brilliant after months of overloading on my trail leg but not swaying which I've fixed this is the next part I need to conquer. Simple and so clear. Thank you.
Great video as always. Which video is the next in this series? Thank you!
Thank you Chris

this has helped my swing so much.... my favorite video of yours
Trying to maintain wrist angles and turn correctly to stop early release fat/weak shots. Great videos!
Fantastic Chris... this is exactly what I am trying to achieve at the moment 🇿🇦 loved this
Awesome video Chris, that is exactly what I have been doing wrong trying to bump my hips forward and then ending up too much on my back foot love the thought of falling forward!!🏌
Thanks Eric 👍

Great!
I’m working on transition from backswing to downswing - in particular good weight shift and not coming over the top.
Liked this lesson!
Thanks Chris, this is something that I have been working on for awhile now and wasn’t sure where I was going wrong. I’m getting up right now to try this out. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Thanks Chris... trying to get pressure forward on left foot and forward shaft lean all while keeping head back... so tough for me!
Thanks Josh, tough for many, keep out the practice though, will be worth it 👍
This should be a great series! Does the bump or lateral move change at all for the driver?
Hi Arthur, no exactly the same for all clubs here 👍👍
Hi. Regards from Chile. Now I’m trying to works on my hips on driver. Sometimes, more that I want, I use more arms than hips+arms and ball goes left.
Great channel and thanks for your videos and drills.

Thanks Evan, video coming shortly on that ‘sitting’ topic 👍
From 2019 but still so helpful !Great Video, great drill 👍 thanks for helping me to improve my game!

Hi Chris, I'm sorting out my weak grip with my left hand. Also the rotation of my wrists in the down swing. Great video as always.
Superb tip “fall to lead side” Thanks Chris 👍
Thanks Chris, alignment stick drill through belt tabs is such a good visual check......love it.
Great video Chris. Sequence is my biggest issue at the moment and I am doing exactly what you have explained here. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Thanks Jim 👍
Brilliant video. I've been doing that with my hips because I suffer from over the top swing. Best training video's on RUclips
Thanks Scott appreciate that 👍
Hi Chris after a few years out with back injury I have come back to the game and I have a slight over the top motion that I am working on removing. Using the swing plane app and the stop at the top drill it’s getting better but it’s a persistent fault to say the least.
Hi Great explanation. What exactly are you doing with your trail foot on the downswing-- pushing off, rolling in? Thanks Fred P.
Had a couple of lessons regarding consistent strike. Being taught stack and tilt method. I amd concentrating on weight more on left and shoulder alignment
Thanks Steven 👍
chris you are killing it man! world class instruction. keep grinding these vids my guy!
Chris when trying to have swing bottom out ahead of the ball ,where should the eyes be focused onto golf ball.
Another great tip Chris! I've been working on wrist angles and hitting the ball first this off season. Great video CHRIS I used to slide and flip so I am working on weight shift and rotation thro the shot.
Thanks Robbie 👍👍
One of the best explanations I've seen.
Awesome thanks 👍👍
Early extension causing me to hit the ball close to the nozzle would love see u do video on this and when to strike the ball
Great off season choice, currently trying to fix this also trying to get my distance back on irons, keep up the great work
Thanks Milo 👍

Thanks again for an excellent piece of online coaching. I'm currently working (i.e. struggling!) on the coordination of hip rotation, and the weight shift.
Another great one Chris. Perfect example of guys like me trying to do the right thing and not getting it quite right.
Thanks Paul 👍
interesting. will try soon. This is one of key problem areas
Great content Chris! I tend to move forward/slide towards the objetive in the donwswing. This is generating some early release and my hips going up instead of down, causing all kind of shots and inconsistency. What can i do? Thanks!
Great video Chris. Having trouble from taking the club across the line at the top of the back swing.
Same as me Joe, I’ve battled that for years 👍
I'm working on making consistent contact with the ball. The weight shift is a big problem for me because I don't hit my clubs as far as I think I should. So I'm working on that and getting the shaft lean as well
Thanks Teddy 👍
Very well explained Chris. This pressure shift is what I'm currently working on. I'm trying also to keep my head behind the ball which tends to give me the fault you've described, left hip high. If I get this right should it help improve my plane and more of an in to out path?
I also need to focus on better shaft lean at impact to improve compression, hopefully one of your videos will help.
Hi Barry, yes I’d say this movement can be linked to club path so should help with that too 👍
This was an Awesome lesson... been struggling with my downswing.. this will help
Thanks Tim appreciate it 👍
Hi Chris.. I'm confused on 4:39 with your another video call shallow your golf swing.. In 4:39, isn't that movement its shallow your golf swing? Hopefully you can clarify more in detail
Thanks Chris you're helping my game improve a lot.

Working on hitting the ball and taking divot and not befor the ball also having a - on ball currently hitting plus on irons

The cold (in NY) makes it tough to really practice regularly, so it's lots of putting on the carpet. I'd like to do an on-line lesson. Would a video with a practice plastic ball work?
Hi bob that’s great, and yes that wood work, as long as there is a physical object being hit it should work fine 👍
Hi Chris, thanks for the great lesson. I have been working in this area transition/downswing and would love to see more about the rotation of the hips and hand path. You seem to be clearing your right hip as your hands come into the ball .... all nicely synced up. Others seem to be insistent on getting the hips out of the way before hitting....thoughts?
always trying to improve my swing. Just trying to make it a consistent as possible, but cannot get to the course/driving range all that often
Hey Chris, trying to stop coming over the top and more consistent contact
How did you solve your over the top swing. Any tips because its driving my crazy.
@@scottwightman4359 lessons and a lot of practice wish there was a better answer I could give you
Great video Chris. I’m having issues with my arms going first in the downswing before my lower body forcing me to go over the top. Any drills/ideas to help try and fix this?

I am in western Canada and darn glad I am not in the mid-Eastren U.S. Brrrrrrr!
Hi Chris, great one, hard to get right timing..
!!!
Great simple explanation, I’m now off to by a bungee strap and a practice rod as I do exactly what your not supposed to
Absolutely fantastic so easy to understand thanks Chris ⛳️👍🏼
Thanks David 👍
That’s a great drill, plus that makes so much sense, your right I used pump my hips out and up, and now the new way is so much smarter. Thanks 🏌🏼😃👍
Thanks Dennis 👍
Thanks X. This is what I'm working on at the moment!
Perfect video! Love the words falling onto lead foot really puts into my mind the right way of thinking about it
Thanks Chris for you video's are well done and great info!
Thanks
Thanks for the video instruction! This video seems directly to an iron, do you plan on doing this video topic for a driver?
Hi Randy, this would work with all clubs, set up with the driver is key to ensure we don’t strike too much down 👍
Hi Chris,
Great tip,
Clean ball strike and compression, this is another
aspect of my game I am looking forward to working on
and improving when we get together soon
Kev G
Thanks Kevin 👍
currently working on weight shift and stopping early extension
Chris I love your videos and you teaching technique. Keep 'em coming, please.
Brilliant
Great content, as usual. My 2019 swing change goal is to improve my hip turn, balance, trail elbow position, and shallowing the club.
