Thanks for taking us along on a wonderful hike and exploration. I loved your little daypack kit (again) and some of the beautiful images you captured. Seven miles is a good distance of a hike that allows for time to enjoy the reason we are out there. : )
By the way, Rich, The "Bushman of the Yukon" sent me over and I'm happy I found your channel. Rich is a wonderful enjoyable person and it was so nice to see him get some goodies and so gracious of you. Thanks again. : )

I think you are in better shape than me! Keep it up =)
Thanks for sharing your pack, it is so important to have a good pack for the back!

I agree with you, but "as a backup" was all I was offering with my intal comment. For as much preparing you usually do (its why I watch your vids) I'm surprised you have a single point of failure in your kit. I always carry two GPSR's with me in the bush. Regardless I'm enjoying your hike videos. I may start doing some myself later in the year. Thanks for the vids!

I guess I assumed you were planning on expanding into some backcountry at some point. My 20yrs in the military and 350+ miles logged last year have taught me some hard lessons. Good luck! If you ever need an opinion or suggestion drop me a line. Happy to share knowledge.

Pick up a Garmin 205 on eBay for cheap. Good backup gps and the battery last a long time. Gives elevations, pace, total distance etc. I used mine all the time for hikes.

Just a tip from my years of trial and error. Motion is a good app, but when the leaves come in this summer you'll see. Unless you're mounting your iPhone on your pack (which I'd recommend). It needs to have a clear view if the sky to be reliable with a canopy of trees.

@johnmonk66 Rich and Mika are two of my favorites, also. Great minds think alike....

@johnmonk66 doing the AT is a dream of mine too. Maybe when I retire from this gig.

@jaymartintube If you are hiking in unknown country, in the middle of nowhere, then sure, carry 2 gps units. But I do not use gps to find my way, I use it to measure the lenght of my hike. I research trails before I take them, so I have no need of a backup gps. My army days taught me to tell direction with the sun, and to read maps. My only backups are fire, water filtration and knives, those are the most important tools for survival.

@saradreaming Rich is one of my top two favorites. I recommend MvsBushcraft too.

@phr1sk37 True about the pack, even though this pack I use is nice, it gets heavy after a while, so I ordered an internal frame pack today. Internal frame packs distribute weight to the hips, so I should have less back troubles.

@johnmonk66 You will enjoy the internal frame a lot! no more achy shoulders or tweaked back. Unless you really load it up =)

@wawhiker Actually MotionX doesn't hurt the battery as much as I had feared. I ran it for 3 and a half hours and the battery was at 80% when I finished. I was pretty happy with that.

@jaymartintube I survived my time in the army before there were GPS unis, lol, so if I was going out into the backcountry I would feel safe with a map. And 350 miles is pretty good, personally I am doing 16 on the weekends and 40 during the week, so I expect to hit a thousand miles by summer. Even though I can't take six months off to walk the AT, I can do at least 50 miles a week to be ready for it.

@jaymartintube It is the same with any GPS, I have tried a few, they all need a clear view of the sky. But the Iphone also uses cell phone towers to triangulate itself, unlike a GPS, which is why I found it more reliable and accurate. I have used them side by side, and the iphone was always more accurate, in fact in clear areas it got me to within 9 feet of a coordinate. I don't say this as an apple lover, it's just what I found out by my testing of 4 GPS units.

@penguinopera love to see a video of rock climbing gear, if you use it, I know nothing about climbing/

@jaymartintube My Iphone does all that with a 99 cent app. And it has maps that I can email and save. Why in the world would I want a gps unit? No gps unit I have ever tried has been as accurate as my iphone.

What ever happened to Rich? He disappeared and erased all his videos without saying goodbye
