  • Hung Kuen Master Leung Daiyau at 90 years of age, performs the rare Snake guiding the Crane set!
    Further info : www.taipinginst...
Master Leung Daiyau is well known Dit Dar/TCM Physician who has practiced Hung Kuen for most of his life. This performance was at a special demonstration held in Maoming, Guangzhou in memory of Great Master Lin Weilong who had been instrumental in teaching Hung Kuen across Maoming. Hung Kuen from the Yuexi (Zhangjiang, Maoming, Yangjiang) is renowned for its Ten Animal Sets (Tiger, Snake, Leopard, Crane, Dragon, Elephant, Lion, Horse, Monkey and Wild Cat) and practitioners would often mix or create sets on the basis of their favorite techniques.

Absolutely superb. For those wondering, this is a crane form (though it appears some dragon & snake movements might be mixed in) from Hung Gar (Hong Jia). It is likely not the standard Hung Gar normally seen, but is probably a less well known "village" Hung Gar style. Notice the subtleties of his hand postures, as well as his perfect structure, to which he applies rooting and fa jing at precisely the right moments.

It is still amazing watching it 10 years later again. I would love to know if the Master is still alive and how is he doing.

This is an interesting style combination. He demonstrates real brisk movements mixed with more hypnotic movements of the snake. There is obviously some great learning in these techniques. This young man in the 1930-1940's may have learned kung fu and is passing his knowledge. Part of the demonstration, the proof of the value of his art, is that he is demonstrating it to us, not to the heavens.
