I don’t think this should be that big of a deal, I’m not even sure where you find shirts that thin, you could see his nipples though it before infrared, it mostly just made it easier to see though, what was already partially transparent.
I agree - shouldn’t be a big deal. But how conftable would you be if you was a woman, for one thing or were quite self conscious. Some look at it as we all have similar bodies, nothing hugely matters, some don’t mind some provocative positions or photography. Some people myself included, are very self conscious. I’m not the first person to take my top off for example. It doesn’t matter if I’m Male or female or whether we are talking downstairs either. If a phone has capabilities to see through clothes - I’d like to know *what clothes, so I can where stuff that can’t be seen through.
It’s personally me just saying I think it’s not a big deal until your someone who realised anyone and anyone could be being weird. Especially if you were not aware of it.

The color has nothing to do with it....it is solely the fact that the plastic being used is thin and transparent to infrared light.
As far as skin goes....yes you could see through the skin to an extent (that is just slightly under the surface) as skin is also partially transparent to infrared light
Well... it’s infrared not X-ray. You could have been able to see through skin, but unlike conventional idea, Humans are pretty thick skinned and skin has several layers. Even if you were able to infiltrate all the skin layers, you would encounter the subcutaneous fat tissue (adipose). So forget about dreaming to see that weird piece of *** toy that you ingested, without having to visit a real doctor. 😅

In the same way you can see a box label through a t-shirt, you can also see a nipple or a tattoo. It depends on the thickness and the material of the fabric, and how stretched or close to your body it is. The same thing happened on those Sony cameras with the Night Shot function. You can't see through 2 layers of fabric, but if it's one layer stretch t-shirt, that shouldn't be a problem.

Pretty much all current image sensors see well into the near infrared (but not as far as thermal imaging or anything). They have IR filters over the sensor to avoid issues. However you can usually still see strong IR sources like TV remotes' IR LEDs. You can also get Astronomy versions of several cameras with the filter removed. (You want it for normal photography as you get a colour cast without it, one Leica camera had too mild an IR filter and they, IIRC, ended up supplying purchasers with screw-on IR filters for lenses.)
CCTV cameras make a feature of it, having IR LEDS for night use.
I can't imaging you'll ever see much through clothing though...
One possible usage. You can check hotel room if there’s any hidden cameras or equipment of that sorts. So kind of useful feature.

Any digital camera can "see" infra red light, you don't need any filter or special equipment, just remove the ir filter in front of the sensor and you will get an infrared camera, also a normal camera even with the filter on will send infra redd light as a purple one, not as crazy like without the filter but it will that's why I use my phone camera to see if a remote controller is working by pointing the ir light led to the camera directly and I can clearly see a light blinking if it works
Regular smartphone cameras always have been able to see some infrareds. Working in tech I learned the trick to use my smartphone to test TV remotes. You can see the IR light of the remote flashing. I don't understand why the see through photochrom effect seems only possible on few models. Did they increase the sensibility range to IR light of the hardware or are they all capable of that but they never allowed softwares to do it ?
Regular cameras have IR filters to cut out the infrareds (to improve quality because CFA on sensor can't handle it well). Many remove it and install filters blocking visual light that pass only IR, to take IR photos (quite spectacular in my opinion). I have a OP8Pro and I'm mad at OnePlus that they played it like this, this shitstorm was dumb from the beginning.

There are Infrared cameras all around us. This is a great feature. We can detect hidden cameras in hotels or washrooms. It's a very handy tool to have.

i think it will be useful in place like a hotel room or changing room where you just want to check if there is any camera or anything and enhance your privacy.
Imagine tech company’s using this to Diagnose physical hardware without taking it apart. Huge game changer. Even at home uses this can tell u for example what if a capacitor broke and now u can tell.

I was in the process of writing about the Sony cameras when Lou got to that part. I thought I'd have a chance to show I was smart/old.
Yeah, after those were discontinued they skyrocketed in value. Get your OnePlus8 Pro while you still can!
@@jalderink Sony couldn't do patch update to their camera back in the day, they have to recall the product and relaunch a different version. OnePlus can easily yank the feature with update when it comes to that.
I have a Sony DCR-HC96 purchased around 2006 that has this feature, screw on a cheap IR filter and switch to night mode.
I had/have(if it still works) one of those Sony HandyCams with super night shot plus mode. The night vision aspect was really cool.
Anyway there are lots of non-IR cameras that can be modified to shoot IR/near-IR; so it's silly if they removed that feature because of see-through controversies.
Could this feature be used to find thermal leaks of a building? Or weak electric conduits etc?

I use IR alot, i use it on my security cameras, and i converted 2 cameras for it, and want to find a UV camera, plants and flowers look so different, under UV flowers look amazing. Additionally, at night it grabs up so much more light, especially if you have an IR illuminator
I always thought it would be cool if phones could make use of IR cameras to digitally enhance night mode photos.

I just got one for IR photography. Had to downgrade the firmware to restore the functionality, but it takes breath taking pictures!
