You know you're outside the town when the music changes. 1st thing I always do is find the limits of the town that way and mark it with blocks so I know what space is available to be worked with.

You can hammer up your crop when it's ready, getting the crop and seed in one swing.. and then replant the seed, resetting its harvest timer ;) Do this and ou'll keep your crops indefinitely if you remember to go back periodically.

I'm going to show you some content of the first story island but keep it completely story spoiler free! If you should still worry about spoilers - you should look away and only listen to the audio of this video. So without further ado, let's talk about all the stuff I wish I knew before playing Dragon Quest Builders 2! Home Sweet Home I know the urge to build something great is big. But let me give you the advice to not build too much on your home island - at least until you completed the story. (or try to avoid building in the snow mountain and desert area) No-can-do's-ville Baby Doll When you land on the first story island you won't get to take your stuff with you and you can't take anything with you until you complete it. Also you will be stuck there for quite some time (at least on the first island). Weapons of Mass Destruction Your villagers will help you with your everyday life on the new island. But don't forget - some of them are also good fighters. Try to give them the best weapons as soon as possibile - so they can help you to slice right through enemy attacks! And if they're hurt you could also help them in return. NO not like THIS... That's more like it. Fast as Lightning When you need to reach a place you previously visited as quick as possible (Or you get stuck in a magnet cave ;), make use of the Fast Travel option on your minimap screen. Dora the Explorer Exploration is one of the key elements of every Dragon Quest Game. Be sure to check every nook and cranny. You may find some awesome Treasures in the deepest cave or even on the highest mountain. Pressure Cooker Nobody likes to go out slaying monsters on an empty stomach. To get your food intake faster, why not place down multiple bonfires? Later - Villagers may even cook for you in record time! Valar Morghulis Dying is part of life - and also of the Builder's! But don't be afraid! Should you really bite the dust, you'll resurrect in your town without penalties. A Last-"Ditch" Effort Should you struggle with the upcoming monster waves - don't fret. Monsters are pretty basic and can only jump 1 block high. Just dig up a ditch (or a moat) to keep the monsters at bay. Bedtime! In Dragon Quest Builders 2 you can sleep anywhere you want. So if you take your bed with you, you can replenish your health even while fighting difficult monsters! A Valuable Resource Seeds are the most precious material on the first island. But they won't last forever. After 4 or more harvests they can simply disappear. Though there are some ways to get more seeds, be sure to only harvest your crops when you really need to. Talk to the Hand While exploring you may bump into one or the other curious Fella. At first they may not talk to you, but as you progress and come back at a later time they may have something fairly interesting to say. The Board of Spoilers! I have a love/hate relationship with the Noticeboard. It can be helpful but it also acts rather stupid (kind of reminds me of my Ex...). But that's not the topic! While playing through the story you WILL eventually come across heavy spoilers of the game's story. Be aware of that. I screamed only like 5 times at the Noticeboard while playing through the game. In-Game Contest! The Noticeboard not only has its downsides. There will be weekly and monthly ingame Contests in which you can participate. If you're lucky and secure yourself a place in the Top 3 you'll even get an unique item! A little Heads-Up: The first monthly contest will be about your Town on Furrowfield Island. The Early bird... To get into the top 3 there are a few things to consider. You could have the best build in the world but still won't make it into the top 100 Why? Because the system is totally broken. But that's a story for another day... (or video) The first thing you have to do - You need to upload your build ASAP! Then the day and time is also an important factor. Your best bet will be on Saturdays or Sundays at around 4-6 pm eastern time. Have a Heart! When Villagers are happy (as an Example "after finishing a task" or visiting the pot - they have a strange Sense of Happiness...) they will give you affinity Hearts. Those are basically to progress the level of the town, but later they are also exchanged for Items. So make sure to keep your Villagers happy. So much Space! Your town limits have been massively increased in Dragon Quest Builders 2 Instead of the measly area of 32 by 32 blocks - you'll now have 68 by 50 blocks of area to build on (with a height of 100 blocks). That's almost four times the space than you had before. Death from Above Later in the game you'll get the gliding mantle. This thing is pretty neat I must say. It also has a (more or less) hidden ability to attack enemies from above. When you defeat an enemy with that attack you'll even get a Trophy on PS4. Oh and it's also quite useful to reach Ledges above you. Hunter becomes the Haunted Ghosts are more fearsome than ever. They sport massive HP and an Attack which can almost one-shot you. Good thing they have a weak spot. Light! When you're not ready for them just stick a torch or bonfire in their face and they'll run off into the distance. But when you're up for the challenge they'll give you some massive XP Boost upon defeat. Animal Cruelty There are a few (mostly cute) animals in this game. But watch out for enemies. They'll be stuck on your new best friends tail and want to eat them. Back on your Island be sure to build a hut for them, so that Ghosts can't reach them at night. Material Boy (or Girl) Material Islands are procedurally generated islands which reset and change their appearance each time you visit them. On those islands you get a task to search for a list of items. Once completed you'll be granted infinite resources of the displayed item! It's getting crowded On Material islands are not only Materials and Animals. There will always be one build of the 100 build contest somewhere on the island. There you can recruit 1 new Villager for your Home Island. Fear of Heights I lost count on how often I died in Dragon Quest Builders 1 to Fall damage. But something's changed. Now I feel the urge to jump. Oh please watch over me you gracefully and sexy goddess! Goodbye cruel world... What the heck. I'm alive. I'M ALIVE! It seems you can no longer die from fall damage...
use your hammer to harvest your plants then put the seeds in container like one in your barn and the villagers will plant them for you and the seeds never disappears
The main suggestion I could make a new player would be. As soon as you can unlock infinite items from optional islands unlock all you can. When you move on to each story island you keep the infinite items you have unlocked. This makes progressing the story much easier.

Fall damage doesn't kill you?!?! HOLY MOLES! I AM SO GLAD THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED! I cannot tell how many times I f'king died from falling off a cliff in the original DQB because it was too high. The new "Drop to 1 HP from a high fall" is so much better! I cannot wait to play this game!

There will be 2 spots occupied by story (snow mountains and desert area). If you build something there you have to destroy it to progress in the story mode.

It's really a great thing that we have the option of making a supply of certain materials infinite! I can't count how many times I ran out of materials and have to grind for them back in the previous game!
@@MerrittLS Explorer's Shores, they're islands that cost gratitude to unlock and when you complete the scavenger hunt, you'll unlock the corresponding resource. I think Blossom Bay is an example of one.

@@MerrittLS I think it's fine to go back and check them off. I've only ever checked them off 100% before leaving, but the progress made from previous visits probably persists. Also, you're actually further in the story than I am.

Prolly cause you'll get many weeks, maybe months (dare I say years?) Of enjoyment out of this game, whereas when the end of the year countdown happens, that's it. It's over. No real enjoyment.

In the beginning I wouldn't recommend it. There are instances where, if you haven't progressed the story enough, you might need to destroy everything you've build in a certain spot because the game wants you to build something else there. Especially on the isle of awakening.
Are you able to take the blueprints from the islands and reuse them on Isle of Awakening? I was jealous that they were getting a fully giant grown tree in their yard. It was fairly easy to grind gratitude points in Furrowfield.
I have not had to plant my seeds more than once yet. I have gotten hundreds of cabbages off my first planting. Perhaps, the Switch port is superior with QOL improvements absent in the PS4 original. I have enough Grilled Greens for years.

I think you've mistaken blueprints with islands. You can't share blueprints online but the builds on your island :) And I haven't tried yet if the service is required. If so it should be written down somewhere in the official game info. And thank you very much! 😊

Why not build in the snow or desert areas? I just finished moonbrooke and went ham on my castle in the snow area, is it going to be a waste due to the storyline?
You may have answered this in another video I missed but, are there any limitations or features missing that you wish to be changed? Is the fishing for cooking materials in the game? Also if you have played Portal Knights how would you compare the 2 games? I have never played Dragon Quest but I do own Portal Knights and Minecraft (which I don't care for) Thanks for sharing :D

Hi I have a question about multiplayer - I keep hearing there's only the Home Island (Isle of Awakening) for multiplayer but I understand in the Japanese version there are more? Such as Cultivation Island? If those are in Western version do how do you transport to the different islands with your friends, can you be on different islands while playing multiplayer (can I be on Isle of Awakening while friend is on my Cultivation island?) My brother bought this game and when I asked to play i got addicted to the point where I got farther than him and I even beat the game. Spoiler: When I saw the fact that you have to fight Malroth I was shook that our company would be evil. I cried after I beat him.
He translate the game from Japanese into German. So he can play JRPGs before there are released in Europe. So there are only a few parts of the Story you can spoiler me. (Sorry fory bad english. Languages are difficult for me. I'm more interrested in science.)
What happens if you complete a task like somebody asking you to making a inn you do and it would not complete where the character would say that you have completed it even though you have done incorrectly is there any way to fix this besides starting a new game
Oh yeah, especially since Nintendo published it. They make the writing very charming in every Dragon Quest they help out with. I'm sure the most recent mainline game built from the ground up will have better writing on Switch too.
Maybe fall damage caps at 67. I am gonna try and recreate your jump. Edit: I am Lv 5 and have 44 HP, I jumped down the exact spot and took 66 Damage. Looks like you really don't die anymore. But here is another tip to not take any damage at all, just do the glide attack. As far as i know, you take absolutely no damage doing it.
King Felidae you need to build the bakery inside of the actual base (where the cheery music plays) otherwise it won’t work, This frustrates me so much!
@@Vdiguf It shows that the place is inside. It's as cramped as can be. I have no more room for anything else. The farmers just go in and grab the food but it's never cooked.
3:44 Is there a stupid death counter or something in this game? I have a serious case of OCD and seeing what I call "negative stats",such as how many times you've died, is infuriatingly annoying.
Playing the game and just got the information about exhausting seeds. I wonder wether using the hammer to get the seed back and then replanting will replenish the seed? 🤔
@@BenXC thanks for your reply! I wouldn't expect the information is stored per seed, then again it also needs to store the growth information, so perhaps they do. I was running two patches of wheat, one with reseeding after harvest. Curiously enough I lost a seed in the patch I kept reseeding.. I suppose the mechanic isn't that obvious as... You always get 5 harvests or something? Maybe a more controlled experiment might be needed. Although I did try putting away other seeds in my inventory so I wouldn't mix them up... Oh and thanks for all the videos, really enjoy watching them!
@@BenXC yes it was strange. At first I thought I missed a seed but I suppose it was exhausted. I might try to do a more bigger experiment. Might be interesting to know what impact fertilizer has on the exhaustion on seeds as well? But first, I have to progress further in the game. Ha ha ha I didnt know you could euipt others besides Britney and Malroth. Pastor Al cottage has stone bricks that you can break apart during the quest of the bottomless jug you can use to build a giant wall around the farm that is hard for enemies to break.
Possible missables in jail island story section, after regaining your ability to glide take s**t-ton of blocks to south side of isle and glide to faraway ship on bottom of map and jump in the water, when ready to return build your way back up to highest building point and use to glide back, jumping in the sea will NOT get you back, coming here was to disable the hight check that blocks you digging deep or going in water (well that's what happened with me) after that, hunt around, I lost patience so I never found anything, maybe someone else will
Man, I ended up getting the Switch version because I'm always out and about doing stuff and I know I'm going pour a lot of hours into this game. PS4 version is good if you don't see yourself taking the the game on the go. The difference in performance is there but I'll trade that for portability for this game specifically.

Don't build outside the musical area of your town the buildings won't work with areas where the music changes (or malroth follows you)
I found on Furrowfield that NPCs won't use their rooms even near the border of your building areas. Good point here!

I cannot tell how many times I f'king died from falling off a cliff in the original DQB because it was too high. The new "Drop to 1 HP from a high fall" is so much better! I cannot wait to play this game!

There will be 2 spots occupied by story (snow mountains and desert area). If you build something there you have to destroy it to progress in the story mode.

It's really a great thing that we have the option of making a supply of certain materials infinite! I can't count how many times I ran out of materials and have to grind for them back in the previous game!
How can you make supplies infinite? I'm new to game, just starting on the mining island
@@MerrittLS Explorer's Shores, they're islands that cost gratitude to unlock and when you complete the scavenger hunt, you'll unlock the corresponding resource. I think Blossom Bay is an example of one.
@@eclipset.9683 I finally unlocked a few. The 1st island I was sent to I didn't check everything off b'c I assumed I could come back later & complete it. I'm at "end game"/ story complete, is it too late to check off the last few now?
@@MerrittLS I think it's fine to go back and check them off. I've only ever checked them off 100% before leaving, but the progress made from previous visits probably persists. Also, you're actually further in the story than I am.

Prolly cause you'll get many weeks, maybe months (dare I say years?) Of enjoyment out of this game, whereas when the end of the year countdown happens, that's it. It's over. No real enjoyment.

Hi! I have questions about npc's. Besides cooking and fighting what else can they do? And, after finishing the campaign, they disappear? I have seen in your other vids that it's just you and your party. And last, great vids! they relax me a lot and your buildings are really beautiful!
They can build blue prints and some move to your main island. They stay after the story.

In the beginning I wouldn't recommend it. There are instances where, if you haven't progressed the story enough, you might need to destroy everything you've build in a certain spot because the game wants you to build something else there. Especially on the isle of awakening.

Are you able to take the blueprints from the islands and reuse them on Isle of Awakening? I was jealous that they were getting a fully giant grown tree in their yard. It was fairly easy to grind gratitude points in Furrowfield.
Yes you can go into the blueprint menu and use the button prompt (it is shown at the bottom) "take as an item".

I have not had to plant my seeds more than once yet. I have gotten hundreds of cabbages off my first planting. Perhaps, the Switch port is superior with QOL improvements absent in the PS4 original. I have enough Grilled Greens for years.
@Laurada Gerbracht Oh yeah, that's a real bummer. I noticed the seeds began to disappear after some of the early quests were done.
The tough monster is always the blue orc. I killed it in two seconds with the poison needle.
Hi Ben, love your builds! Can I ask what you meant by saying not to build too much on the home island? Is that because there's a different location where its best to build big later on?
I played the jappanesse version. The other areas will be used story wise so you don't want to build there till then.
Yeah I would avoid building too much in the desert and snow mountains area. (There are 4 markers in both areas each around 64x64 blocks)

I think you've mistaken blueprints with islands. You can't share blueprints online but the builds on your island :)
And I haven't tried yet if the service is required. If so it should be written down somewhere in the official game info.

I just finished moonbrooke and went ham on my castle in the snow area, is it going to be a waste due to the storyline?
He's talking about on the island you own. There's a quest to build a giant pyramid in the desert.
You may have answered this in another video I missed but, are there any limitations or features missing that you wish to be changed? Is the fishing for cooking materials in the game? Also if you have played Portal Knights how would you compare the 2 games? I have never played Dragon Quest but I do own Portal Knights and Minecraft (which I don't care for) Thanks for sharing :D

Hi I have a question about multiplayer - I keep hearing there's only the Home Island (Isle of Awakening) for multiplayer but I understand in the Japanese version there are more? Such as Cultivation Island? If those are in Western version do how do you transport to the different islands with your friends, can you be on different islands while playing multiplayer (can I be on Isle of Awakening while friend is on my Cultivation island?) Thanks!

I beat the Japanese version of this game over last Christmas. It's so great that I can now play it and understand the storyline.
Oh yeah, especially since Nintendo published it. They make the writing very charming in every Dragon Quest they help out with. I'm sure the most recent mainline game built from the ground up will have better writing on Switch too.

Maybe fall damage caps at 67. I am gonna try and recreate your jump. Edit: I am Lv 5 and have 44 HP, I jumped down the exact spot and took 66 Damage. Looks like you really don't die anymore. But here is another tip to not take any damage at all, just do the glide attack. As far as i know, you take absolutely no damage doing it.
Yeah you'll get approx. 1 damage for each meter you'll fall. Though you only get hurt after falling more than 6 meters (blocks) deep.

How do I get them to cook? In Furrowfield and made a bakery (I think) for the two girls but they don't cook anything.
King Felidae you need to build the bakery inside of the actual base (where the cheery music plays) otherwise it won’t work, This frustrates me so much!
@@Vdiguf It shows that the place is inside. It's as cramped as can be. I have no more room for anything else. The farmers just go in and grab the food but it's never cooked.

Make sure to cook it by yourself first. Villagers only cook what you already made yourself.

Playing the game and just got the information about exhausting seeds. I wonder wether using the hammer to get the seed back and then replanting will replenish the seed? 🤔
That *could* work. I haven't tried it yet. Depends if informations like these are stored into them (which I doubt).
@@BenXC thanks for your reply! I wouldn't expect the information is stored per seed, then again it also needs to store the growth information, so perhaps they do.
I was running two patches of wheat, one with reseeding after harvest. Curiously enough I lost a seed in the patch I kept reseeding..
I suppose the mechanic isn't that obvious as... You always get 5 harvests or something?
Maybe a more controlled experiment might be needed. Although I did try putting away other seeds in my inventory so I wouldn't mix them up...

@@BenXC yes it was strange. At first I thought I missed a seed but I suppose it was exhausted. I might try to do a more bigger experiment. Might be interesting to know what impact fertilizer has on the exhaustion on seeds as well?

Ha ha ha I didnt know you could euipt others besides Britney and Malroth. Pastor Al cottage has stone bricks that you can break apart during the quest of the bottomless jug you can use to build a giant wall around the farm that is hard for enemies to break.

Possible missables in jail island story section, after regaining your ability to glide take s**t-ton of blocks to south side of isle and glide to faraway ship on bottom of map and jump in the water, when ready to return build your way back up to highest building point and use to glide back, jumping in the sea will NOT get you back, coming here was to disable the hight check that blocks you digging deep or going in water (well that's what happened with me) after that, hunt around, I lost patience so I never found anything, maybe someone else will
Tip: if u dont want ur crops too dissapear smash them with ur hammer they wont dissapear

Man, I ended up getting the Switch version because I'm always out and about doing stuff and I know I'm going pour a lot of hours into this game. PS4 version is good if you don't see yourself taking the the game on the go. The difference in performance is there but I'll trade that for portability for this game specifically.
