you need to get off the nintendo bandwagon and play some epic games like Last of Us and God of War. something besides mindless building games. games with actual story and cinematography and epic battles and voice acting and music and sound. so much more out there than this stuff.

One of the best things about DQB2 is the fact that every island draws heavy inspiration from a different genre. The first island is Harvest Moon/Rune Factory, the second is a cave exploration/mine management simulator, the third is a tower defense game and the hub island is a more traditional Minecraft experience.
and the combat feels like a 3d version alttp and the social and doing quests for people and such is animal crossing with the personalities of the villagers being nice

I feel like this game was made with depressed people in mind. Love the gratitude system where the characters drop hearts for you and everyone treats each other pretty lovingly. Super wholesome game to play if you're feeling lost.

Try to get the V2 in the red box, it has 40% more battery life, which makes a huge difference for playing portable
Look on the plus side.. It will help pass the time until we do get Animal Crossing..
Also, take a look at Stardew Valley. It's an awesome game.

It's my first DQB game, and before I went to bed at 3 a.m. this morning, I actually said to myself, "Damn, this is a lot of fun.".
My interest in this game was at zero before I watched this. I am now on my way to go buy it!
Didn't grab this for years cause I didn't think the price would justify the experience but God damn I have never been so happy to be wrong. Honestly one of the most solid games I've played in ages. Like I swear I've put like 10 hours in and I'm not even halfway done with the first major island past the isle of awakening. It's freaking amazing. Great video mate.

I am new to the fandom, my husband bought me my first switch for Christmas and this game shortly after. I am currently writing a Malroth and builder fanfiction.
As someone who has been losing sleep to this game, I can attest to everything Wood said. This game is way too fun, way too charming, and taking over my life.
I am not a fan at all of Minecraft but the dragon quest building games are seriously some of the most enjoyable games I played in quite a while.

Luke Gravity only switch games I planned on getting this year were Pokémon, FE, and Links Awakening but I downloaded the demo and watch Wood and gave in and bought the game. I love it so far! Kind of slow to start but it’s picking up and becoming more fun as I unlock things. Based on first impressions it’s a very very good game!

My only gripe with DQB2 is the performance on Switch. I own the first one on PS4, and was tossing up between getting 2 on PS4 again, or on Switch. Ended up getting it on Switch for the portability, and I can play it at work if it's quiet. However, it's not a make or break thing for me. Absolutely loving the game :D
Speaking of Zelda Builders, one thing I'm really looking forward to in Links Awakening is the dungeon you can build from scratch. Actually one of my favourite parts of BotW was building up Tarrey Town, even if you're not really building it yourself.
Legend of Zelda Builders would be....oh my god!
It's definitely on my to-buy list...! I really like the set-up with story mode and then the freedom and possibilities you have afterwards.
It seems like a creative game because you learn and then build your own world, where you invite your friends to play. :) Plus you can fly. I really want to fly like Link in The Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild.

I know what you mean. I haven't played DQB2 or 1, but i did download the Portal Knights demo. Last night i was waiting for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 to download so i was looking around the switch menus and discovered that it will show you how many hours you've played each game. For Portal Knights, I've played 320 hours according to my switch. Ya, I've played a demo for 320 hours, but I've made pretty good progress on my castle.
Ya I tried Minecraft bc my lil bros were addicted to it so I wanted to join in and see what all the fuss aaannnnnd Minecraft is boring. BUT this game looks like Minecraft x dragon ball which I love dragon ball!!! I can’t wait to get this dragon quest builders game!

This has been the one time where before a video I was like "Ya I won't be buying this game it looks dumb" to doing a complete 180; I even bought the game and am going on my lunch break to pick it up so I can get 20-30 min of play time in. Hey dude I’m still in furrowfield I got it yesterday I’m on the grow 250 crops quest and I’m really close but oh my god I love this game so much I love making furrowfield nicer and the quests where they want you to build stuff but I do wish the boundaries of the village was bigger because I don’t want to have to tear down the landscape that makes it pretty and it influences how I build like for the build quest I used the ruins in the town which made it feel more significant

Honestly wood I’ve been debating weather or not to get this game but you have shown me that the demo doesn’t even hold a candle to the full game and I will be picking it up tomorrow
its true. The start of the tutorial is really heavy on text for no reason, but as soon as you get out there you can explore and do the story at your own pace.
Finished main story in 80 hours.... I'd say worth the money
The story sucks and is repetitive, the story is padded with unenjoyable content that turned me off of the game. They have some great mechanics here but the story ruins every bit of the experience. There's too much dialogue, every island has the same type of quests and then they went and had to go with the old trope of removing all your hard earned gear to make you plant seeds again. It's stupid. I wouldn't tell anyone to buy the game cause, the story is too long and is torture to get through and most of the content is only earned in the story.

@Matthew Dawson I prefer shorter games for mains tory line. I'm a binge gamer and I just don't have the time and patience to complete 80 hour campaigns because I cannot bri he my slef to split up my time reasonably. I just want to eb able to do the main campaign over a weekend
This video is basically exactly what I would make as a video on this amazing game. I dont even know what I would improve in DQB2 from a design standpoint. it's so so so well done in every facet.
Dragonquest builders 2 is amazing but the loading screen needs to be fixed

I thought the game was amazing until the story and dialogue made me lose interest. When a game removes all your gear and forces you to play through things again from scratch, that's a no go for me. I lost interest at that point and said forget this game cause it's going know where fast.
@@stellarhyme3 I thought so too but I pushed forward and its not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I would recommend giving it another shot. You get to actually keep everything on your way back as well.

I purchased DQB2 on the day it came out (normally I wait some days before getting a new game). I just love this game so much! Huge improvement to its pre-game, which also became one of my favorites. It's very detailed in the story, there is always something to do and it is, as you already said, very similar to Zelda BotW.

I ended up downloading the original DQB based on your review of the first one last year. I was immediately addicted and I’m so glad you made that recommendation. Of course when I saw the trailer for this one I knew I’d have to get it. I can’t stop playing it.

Before I was unsure if I would like it. Sure I loved the Dragon Quest games but I didn't like the Minecraft design. I prefer round ways rather than cubes... But I am so addicted now with over 80h playtime already ...
If you like Animal Crossing than this is even better. It has the story what is missing in AC.

I got the demo on Switch the other day and I love it. I immediately purchased it and I have been playing it when I can. Even the fact that I haven't really played a Dragon Quest game since the original on NES hasn't been a hindrance. I enjoy the seeing the slimes (the nostalgia) and the quirky storyline and characters. It is like what would happen if Minecraft had a plot that explained what you were doing there and drove you forward, plus helpers to assist in the tasks instead of me doing everything.

Loved the first DQB and now just playing the demo whilst I wait for the second one to turn up. Great video 🤘 I had pretty much the same problem with both stardew valley and the first Dragon quest builders.
Lol I just started the demo, and I haven’t gotten that far but I know for sure you can at least play the little part where you’re being held hostage on a ship all the way through. I’m pretty sure you can do more, but if you can than I don’t know why it’s a demo. It’ll basically be a fully fledged game.
I can confirm the demo is basically a full game. You can spend 40+ hours on it if you're creative enough
I just played the Mega Demo, it's huge! I bought Minecraft for my WiiU and practically never played it. I've downloaded this demo and have played it for hours. Like Dragon Quest XI S, the demo is bigger and better than some full priced games.
There is so much greatness in this game, the dialogs, that bag you mentioned, the characters, I'm loving this game.
I'm also here because of the Jumbo Demo that they updated 😁

when you went on about DQB1 long ago, i had to play it and picked it up. I picked this one up at launch. I am super happy with it. I even have a DQ Slime tattoo on my leg i love the Dragon Quest series as a whole. Now that zelda remark.... dude, that would be so AWESOME!!!
Man, what you said at the end I can relate to. I'm 33 and all my favorite gaming experiences were from my childhood. Snes, n64 and dreamcast. I enjoy games today, but nothing compares to the good ol days.
That being said, I also picked up dqb2 a week ago and can't remember the last time I had this much fun in a game. It's got so much jam packed into it.
I've never played a Dragon Quest game. I originally had little to no interest in this title because I thought it didn't have a story mode and was just ripping off Mario Maker. I burned out on buildy crafty survivaly games before Rust was even a thing. I rarely play long single-player games these days because life always seem to have an annoying and consistent way of getting right smack dab in the middle of the way of me actually being able to finish my darn games. The exception being the mainline Pokemon games because I find handhelds and their games to be much easier to gradually chip away at for a few minutes at a time until I finally beat the game. All that being said though, you pretty much immediately had me completely sold on this game. Wonderful video, Wood. I originally discovered you (and, of course, your channel) in a MetalJesusRocks video years ago, and this is exactly the kind of content I subscribed to your channel to see. You've really done a fantastic job of showcasing this game.

Dude. You did this to me. Way back when it was announced, you made a video where you talked about your excitement for it. I had never heard of dragon quest builders but thought it sounded cool, and kept it in my radar. When it came out, one of my favorite let's players started playing it and within the first 30min, I was sold and bought the game immediately. I couldn't even wait to go to a store, I just bought it digitally. And when I say I haven't put it down since...... I've been bringing it and a little charging cable for my switch everywhere I go. I'm not even a very creative person but this game gives me enough materials to work with and makes it so easy to build (except for the roof....) that I end up loving everything I build anyways. And if I don't love it, it is exceedingly easy to just tear it down and try again lol.
I would totally recommend this game to everybody!!

I'm not a fan of Minecraft, but after your first video I downloaded the demo for DQB1 and have no idea how 3 hours passed by. So I bought and played the first one.
DQB2 is just soooooo much better than the first in terms of quality of life. This game is great, even if you don't like Minecraft.

I was on the fence about the game. But BOTW has been my favorite game since I purchased it 💕 so hearing you say it’s similar to botw is making me want to buy it. I did buy those vouchers 🤔 so I might just get it.

That's called claw technique. Very useful when you need to use your analogue at the same time a face button.

i put off watching this because i'm also playing through it since release, but i'm finally getting to this video! and all i gotta say is, i too am dreaming about DQB2 now. i picked up the first DQB because of your first video on it, and i'm so glad i did. thank you for your in-depth look at these games, you really sell it in the best way possible. tomorrow is my 30th birthday, and you can bet i'm going to be parked on the sofa playing DQB2 as much as humanly possible for those 24 hours. keep on buildin, man!
