Dawntrail is just one step closer to an unclouded Ilsabard.
In all seriousness, Dawntrail is a fresh slate for the game to really build upon itself. I'm mostly hoping that we get some kind of an overarching antagonist group again. We had the Garlean Empire all the way since 1.0, and while you can argue there's more to tell with them it probably won't be as antagonists. I'm curious if maybe some of the futuristic art we saw in the last fanfest will be related to the "next" Empire, something to be looming over us for a few expansions even if they may not end up being the ultimate end boss later down the line.

@@Tommy648 I am more exited for the possibility of an alien appearance
i am pretty sure meteon did some major damage to the universe and probably reached civilizations that were pretty much alive and kicking before she started killing them
aliens invading for revenge on the people that created meteon the monster isnt far fetched

I'm not only glad we're visiting a "blank slate" of story and lore, I'm even more glad if it's just Tural that we're visiting. Storytelling in Heavensward and Shadowbringers imo benefit a lot by focusing on a single place (and they still had a very nice variety in environments)
Stormblood was fine especially because Othard had great areas and a fresh look, Gyr Abania sadly underdelivered.
Endwalker areas felt much more like stuff that had to exist for plot and made us go everywhere, thus making each place we visited less interesting than what could have been

    A slim possibility:
One of the scenes displayed at the Lodon Fan Fest showed a lab or mechanical room. What if, at the end of Dawntrail allows the ability to go to another shard via technology rediscovered there? That would open the door to almost endless story arcs, expansions, and possibilities.

I keep an open mind for whatever we'd be doing next. Had we gone to Meracydia, I know some dragon fans I know would be excited to see what we could there, and maybe even meet these actual dragon people who revered Bahamut--and more to do with Vrtra's family. With that said, I'm genuinely curious and excited for our trip to FF South America and what kind of story they're going to tell with it!

I am extremely excited for the New World. I have always loved Aztec/Incan/Mayan/Olmec, basically anything to do with ancient Central and South American civilisations.😅
I know some people haven't loved post-Endwalker's story content, but I have a feeling they will down the line. These writers are brilliant at revisiting content (the surprise visitor in The Ocular proves that one).
The idea that the stories of the 1st and 13th may yet continue excites the hell out of me.😁
I trusted the writers to take me on a fantastic ride from ARR thru Endwalker and have never regretted it; I don’t want to be the guy who jumped off the train too early like some of the 1.0 people, only to regret not being there for the start of the next great story. This dev team has earned my trust.🙂

It's just hard to get excited for a story with no known stakes or major antagonistic force. I do think they could have done more to hook us into a new story, since we don't really know much about DT's yet. 😅 I like exploring new places with the Scions, but we've done this quite a few times with more stakes and antagonists around. Even ARR still had the Ascians and the Garlean Empire around to move the plot.
The flip side is we're open to big secrets and reveals. No one knew about Meteion or Ultma Thule before we got to that part of the game. I want some good surprises, and they need to establish new stakes and plot for the next few years.
Hope they pull it off. Just sucks to wait until then. 😅

This is what I am looking forward to most. With the source of deep despair having sung her song for the last, everything else seems a little trite. What will be on the agenda from here forward? Clearly there remains much to do, and the idea of shard-hopping to fix problems and end up figuring out what do with what is left of Hydaelyns fractured world(s) gives plenty of room for expansion. Still, without a big enough baddie, will it be enough to drive us to the edge?

I really do want to see Meracydia and other places added to the over world to explore than have only been instance areas. There are potential lose ends left by the msq and side content too that could be explored later but I am happy getting this fresh slate for now. It’s like a palette cleanser and when we finally do go and explore more established areas, it will feel more exciting!

I mean.. yes, everything on point... but the same holds true then for Othard and Ilsabard. We knew about the New World, every Blue Mage knows about at least a little part of if. Its not some unheard of island somewhere in the South. We know as much about it as we did about any other place we would end up in. Whats positive, and what it has in common with ShB, is that all new zones will be in one place, and not disjointed as in SB or EW, where you hop from one zone to the other, completely disregarding the rest of the world inbetween. As for this expansion being a "blank slate"... well, lore- and storywise, of course it will be, simply because we will enter a new story arc. I do believe that DT will be everything you just described and more. Its just a shame, its still so far off... :D

  • @EnishLord

I hope that the new world focuses more on exploration and discovery then some overarching big bad. I think one of the best things about shadowbringers in terms of storytelling was that Emet-Selch was personable, unlike Fandaniel (cringe). Emet-Selch went with you, shared his perspective on the goings on. And really aided in the discovery and knowledge gain that made shadowbringers so good. We got to be explorers, finding out the deep secrets of the world. Take the time to go places and explore.

    I am excited for Dawntrail
and as for Meracydia, I have this feeling that they will make it into a 24 man Raid series. Same way we explored what was basically this worlds version of Ivalice/Dalmasca via the 24 mans in Stormblood, even tho it could have been a whole expansion in its own right considering the rich lore and culture it has thanks to being probably the one FF realm that has had the most installments take place in, to me Meracydia feels lke it will receive much the same treatment.

For New World I wish to go for a slow journey, to spend as much time as possible in every new place and I hope all the zones will keep my interest and they won't fell just like a.... new kind of forest, new kind of terrain, new mountains, if you know what I mean :)

while i liked endwalker, it does feel rushed at some points especially if you're not doing the role quests for the final days, the garlemald>moon transition and elidibus suddenly remembering about elpis and sending us there (though this finally gets explored with pandaemonium) for example. But at the same time there are also points where it dragged (both loporrits sections and first thavnair visit) so they probably could've done better with the pacing even when it is indeed two expansions smashed into one just like stormblood. Not saying the pacing issues doesnt exist with shb as well tho since in 5.0 there are some sections that dragged a bit too long, but never rushed aside from maybe thancred death fakeout after ranjit and suddenly reappearing like nothing happened lol

I was living the hype these past expansions, but Dawntrail just doesn't excite me. Not neccessarily because the story is done and this is all new, but because of the current state of the game. Relics that are not fun / each step is the same, ultimates feeling different than previous ones (in for me a bad way), and the 6.x story just not being that interesting as well as very predetermined if you just know FF4, any more of the same would just feel like another reason to quit to me. There are possibilities, yes, but we have not seen any of them just yet. I will play it anyway though so happy to be swept of the rug!

i'm incredibly excited for Dawntrail! not just for new environs and lore, but also because of the story and how it'll pan out. this 'contest' putting the Scions at odds makes me anxious, mostly because of the tight bond they all share. Found family is my fave trope, and the Scions fit that bill, and i just hope nothing shatters that family. Ik people love joking about 'Thancred's the dad, Y'shtola's the mom' etc, but if we look at it like that, the WoL is the heart, and i'm one of those poeple that sees that little bit of personality the story gives them. i'm just excited to see where it goes!

Although we had quite a few sneak peek of the New World in the Blue Mage quest, it's true that whatever goes there was created under YoshiP's team. I, for one, am excited to see what's next, as I like aboriginal civilizations and cultures of the Americas, I can't wait to see how it will turn inside FFXIV's universe. However, I think there was more freedom in Norvrandt, as it doesn't try to mimic our world map.
Also, I wonder if all 6 maps will be in the new world, like for Norvrandt in Shadowbringers, or if some will be take place else were, like Elpis in Endwalker.

The New World was what I was hoping for going forth in the new expansion. I hope they don't try to loop Meracydia in there, too, and save that for a later expansion.
But this is th exploration part I love. It's the reason I loved Minecraft, mining in deep dark caverns. It's why I loved Breath of the Wild, with spending hours upon hours just climbing cliffs and trees. I wanted to see MORE.
Dawntrail will be that way to explore more and see new things we've only dreamed so far.
Plus, hey, we get tacos. And who doesn't like tacos?

  • @TheInterplanetary
    @TheInterplanetary 9 месяцев назад

This may be purely coincidental, but I'd like to share my perspective here (and for me, I don't believe in coincidences).
The hand off of FFXIV from an "old guard" to the "new guard" felt like a calculated decision. Not as in, they waited on results and came to a decision based on them, but more like they knew ahead of time what results they wanted and created the right conditions to drive it there.
Thus, the feeling of 1.0 turning into a New World would match a sort of "Ascension", where the Scions and Legacy players would all experience being whisked away from the old world into the new, and new players would be seeing a refreshed version of that old world from the very beginning.
So for us, the story would not be concluded truly until the completion of Endwalker. That story had to be told, the deep secrets of our star had to be unlocked. Some things may yet remain unknown, but the political factions and issues of the last 10,000 years or so have all been at the mercy of that great war between Hydaelyn, Zodiark, the Unsundered, and Meteon (along with her sisters).
While everything we know isn't changing, free from those constraints ALL the realms and ALL the shards are fundamentally different, forever changed. No longer will the looming threat of a new fell Era of destruction due to elemental overdose be an issue, considering there's no Zodiark left to rejoin. However, assuming there are still some remnants of his faithful servants or friends of Meteons wayward creator out there, who knows what they could be up to next?
For perspective, I have been gone since the end of 6.0. This means I have some catching up to do, although I'm familiar with the concept of Zero and how we meet the 12 throughout the rest of the journey. Vaguely so, but nonetheless what I mean to say is that it feels as though Dawntrail represents a world and a land that comes after a great awakening, a massive transition from a period of immense darkness that was unknown to the world, to its exposure, and then eradication from not just our star but all of them! It greatly reminds me of our own world and the shift from darkness and ignorance, to chaos and confusion as much is brought to light, causing folks to succumb to sadness and despair, ending hopefully with the eradication of the unseen root of all evil. This to me is their play on what we are all experiencing to some degree in our lives and ever have I loved Final Fantasy for its parallels.
So in saying all that, yes I am overly excited for Dawntrail. It represents to me a chance to explore the world after getting the ultimate results of our 10,000 year reincarnation cycle, multi-dimensional struggle.
Cheers to you Scribe, and cheers to seeing all of you on the other side!

honestly, im not hugely interested in the new world since it seems like a kind of basic pastiche of real world cultures, kind of like the locations in stormblood. norvrandt was an amazingly unique and atmospheric place, with an incredibly thick and emotional atmosphere, yet what we've seen of the new world just seems like fantasy south america, which is fine, but i just haven't seen anything that's grabbed me yet

I'm excited for what looks to be a very rich spin on a FFXI reference city, at least in part - and curious where they'll go with the story as far as conflict, now that multiple star-ending calamities have been dealt with. It could potentially lessen the impact if they just move from one cosmic threat to another, so I wonder if they'll stick to more localized troubles for now.

I wanna fully explore the planet AND see what the remaining shards have to offer. My weird headcanon wants to achieve both by having the remaining shards threatening to 'collapse' into the source without Hydaelyn around to regulate things, ultimately causing aetherial imbalances in previously stable regions that manifest as strange phenomenon that the Students of Baldesion get called in to investigate.

I'm not completely sure that we won't set foot on Meracydia in Dawntrail. Vrtra and Azdaja's roars being responded to in the distance was there for a reason and we still haven't caught up with Tiamat after Pagl'than. Endwalker took us to Thavnair, the distant past and the moon. There is plenty of room to touch down on two continents in one expansion. If we don't, that's fine but I wouldn't be surprised if we do, even if it's only for a short time.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping that 7.0 was going to take place in Meracydia. But I'm just as, if not more excited to explore the lands of Tural! Maybe not so much about the area, but more so about what story the developers plan on taking the game in beyond the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc. Where do we go from here? What objectives does the Warrior of light, the Scions, and other new comrades we meet along the way have to overcome? I'm less curious about the lands we get to explore, and more excited to learn what the next big story arc is going to be, that is what has me excited most about Dawntrail.

There was a bit of lore of the New World because when Stormblood introduced Blue Mage, Martyn reveals that Blue Magic was discovered by the Whalaqee, a Hyur tribe living in the New World. And the fact he has two Mamool Ja as assistants hinted that Mamool Ja came from the New World. I mean, that's all we know about Tural from a limited job that nobody plays because it's a grind, but I am eager to see if the Whalaqee where Martyn got Blue Magic from and the Lapis Valley which you had to finish in the Level 50 Blue Mage quest will be visited in this expansion. ;)

I'm just excited for Dawntrail in general at this point the WoL is likely the most powerful being in the source. For several reasons, one being that we are the only person to have regained a shard of ourselves from the First after stopping the planned rejoining there. Not to mention our long list of accomplishments and the magical McGuffin' that is Azem's Crystal. We need a power reset of some kind, and the "Beach episode" could help relax and reset those stakes. Plus we've been told Krile is playing a bigger role and I'm always happy to see our popoto's get a chance to shine.

honestly i feel like dawntrail is going to be more than anything a break from everything else that has happened (though also some important setup for the plot going forwards). It's been described multiple times in the fanfests as a "beach episode" sort of vibe and i feel like a calm-before-the-storm sort of expansion, while admittedly not the most exciting thing storywise (and im sure we'll hear people complaining about it on twitter), is important to help reset expectations/stakes going forwards. i feel like it may be helpful to kind of think of arr-endwalker as a full complete rpg game that has finally now ended, and dawntrail going forward as a seperate sequel game with the same characters set in the same world but with a new plot, exploring aspects the original wasn't able to explore.
Im getting the vibe that dawntrail is going to be like, 60-70% chill small story stuff and then its going to ramp up near the end and begin teasing the big new overarching antagonist/s with the ending/post-dawntrail story by planting some new lore revelations that will lead into the following expansion being the more heavily story focused one. I wouldn't be suprised if the lead up from dawntrail to the next expansion will be the last we end up seeing some of the beloved party members we've had since arr (especially those whose character arcs are all finished) in order to introduce some new characters into the mix and see off the ones we know and love on a more positive note.

I agree about the necessity of winding down the stakes with a "beach episode" while they're setting the stage for the next adventure. Escalating ceaselessly is exactly how Warcraft got the Jailer, and when they beat him the stakes immedeately started climbing *again.* They then started backpedaling with Dragonflight but still... the escalation had already been set in motion, Dragonflight was little more than a diversion at that point.
At some point you've got to stop, go back to the basics and lay the foundations for your next mansion. I'm glad Yoshida's lads understand that, but to tell the truth I expected nothing less.

Do you think Dawntrail will be a hodgepodge of elements from FFV and FFX/X-2?

I hope not. After the awkward story beats of Post Endwalker I don't really wanna see other Final Fantasy stories pushed into the MSQ. haha

@@SynodicScribe Maybe I misspoke. I don’t want the plot too heavily to be influenced by those games, just references here and there, like with Anima. Had no bearing on the story, just a cool callback.

Honestly no. Exploring the wonky copy of ARR was low on my reasons I liked Shadowbringers. Endwalker's new areas filled me with more wonder cause I could kinda say oh so just like Limsa or what not. Dawntrail however will be the first time we don't have to mirror or fill in old gaps. Okay a few gaps but still hyped. But I'm a fellow that loved Shadowbringers but felt Endwalker and Heavensward beat it out.

Is this not the same type of video as when Endwalker was supposed to come? Keep dreaming, don't make your hopes too high

I didn’t care for Shadowbringers, but I’m still looking forward to Dawntrail

How? it was literally the best expansion in terms of story and content period.

I can't remember which FanFest it was, but a quote from the FF14 developers during said event comes to mind...
"Dawntrail is, in effect, the equivalent to a swimsuit episode in an anime series."
I'm paraphrasing, of course; but even with that in mind, I see Dawntrail as a breath of fresh air and a relatively "light-hearted" excursion in terms of story elements (no pun intended).
And I DOUBLY look forward to the expansion after Dawntrail. Because that's when things get intense and gritty again (my inner Darknight revels in the potential edge)!

Tural and the New world are all well and good, but with the introduction of those aether current making tools the ironworks made in conjunction with the aetheryte-less teleportation we used to get to Thavnir, I’m more exited to see some long awaited reunions between the scions and the 1st, mainly Ryne and Thancred.
