    Since starting my orchid journey last year this time, I use the Barrinas as well and they are great. All my orchids are growing strong root systems and blooming like crazy this year. I've watched all your beginner's series and they have helped me sooooo much as I never thought I could grow them here in Georgia (US) like I did in Florida. I use what you suggested and couldn't be happier. I have graduated from Phalaenopsis to Vandas and Cattleya and they are blooming too!
    Thank you for your tutorials and all content.. You are appreciated!

    On your recommendation Dani, I bought the Barrina lights (I only have the white) and they work very well. I only put 2 for each shelf (in the Millsbo cabinets) and even then, I ended up turning one off over some phals because I think it was too much light, the leaves were turning red. Under the shelves with 2 lights, I put my cattleyas and my vanda. I also have them on 12 hours a day, on a timer. The nice thing too is that they give a little heat, so the temps inside the cabinets are about 24-25 degrees, whereas the temp inside my home is 21 degree. So at night, as the temp drops to 19 degrees or so, I do get the temp difference needed to stimulate the flowering. Very happy with Barrina lights.

    I use Boostgro 22" LEDs they are full spectrum 5000K and 660nm red also available to daisy chain upto 4 units. $19.98 at Lowe's. They come with thin wire with clips. I'm hanging them about 20” above the leaves of my plants, mostly Phals and they seem to love this light. Lots of root and leaf growth going on.

    I also have barrinas. My orchids are growing amazingly. I have some orchids under GE grow lights and they are not doing as well. I think I need to move them under some barrinas. I too have the one ikea glass shelf that you showed first and I also have the indoor/outdoor wood shelf from ikea. I use the cable ties on the wood shelf and the double tape on the glass shelf. I wish I could show you pictures. It was from your suggestion that I got these lights and I couldn't be happier with the decision. Thank you so much!

      Hi Triciah59, they usually provide some small connectors in the box that can be used to join multiple cables to make a long one for deep shelves. You might check the box the lights came in :)

    Was hoping you'd bring it up in the video, but how long do you leave your lights on throughout the different seasons of the year? Follow up question, do you give different orchid genera differing amounts of light with regards to how long the lights are on? Or do you simply keep orchids closer or further away from the lights depending on their light requirements? Thanks!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  Год назад

      Hi, lights stay on the same way all year round, no difference 😊 also I don't move the orchids or chose them based on the light requirements. They all pretty much get the same thing since it's not as natural sunlight, so no fear of leaf burns 😊

    Hi Danny, thanks for this video !! I grow my orchids under LED TL tubes. Each shelf has 2 tubes, one with a colortemperature of 4000 K (a bit yellow) and the other tube has a colortemperature of 6500 K (slightly blue-ish). Can they be compared with your Barrina grow lights ? I mean what are the best growlights? Kind regards !

    How many hours a day do you all keep your grow lights on?

    • @familhagaudir8561
      @familhagaudir8561 Год назад

      3:30 Twelve (12) hours a day.
      I also set my timer to 12 hours all year long, with a 50W LED panel, and the orchids under it grow and bloom well.
      Though most of my mini-Cattleya leaves basically scratch the plastic cover of the panel to get enough light. I'm impressed she gets Tolumnias to bloom so far away from the 2X10W LED bands. Maby I was just unlucky with my plant, or the Barrina LED bands are just better.
      The one exception is the Cattlianthe Little Hazel, which turned too yellow, so I lowered it like 3 or 4 inches down.
      The Phals about 8 inches down. When they spike they can't stay there, except the ''novelty'' ( type polychilos hybrid ) which makes short spikes. Too bad they aren't as easy to find as the ''standart Phals'', because they come in extremely vibrant colors and strong, pleasant smell.

      I have only one orchard that I have had for 4 years. It had only bloomed when it was first given to me. I repotted it and fertilized it, but no flowers. Fast forward to the end of last year, I was given an Aerogarden. I was growing lettuce and thought I might as well put the orchard beside it. I have beautiful flowers now because of the lights.
      The lights stay on for 15 hours though. Do you think I should move the orchard for 3 hours a day? Can too much light bother the plant?
      Thank you for your help!

      Hi thanks for your videos on using grow lights. I recently put some of my orchids under 53 par grow lights that have 3 color options, blue, red, or white. You can use separate, in combos or all three at once. I noticed since I increased the time to 6 hrs from 4, my oncidium type orchid leaves appear to be thinning. Has that ever happened to your orchids? What do you recommend?
