Blockages in ferrets can go from 'uncomfortable' to 'deadly' really fast. Follow my journey as I deal with a potential blockage in Luffy. I'll share the steps, and the results, hour by hour as we progress through administering the 'Blockage Protocol'. Watching this post before you need it will hopefully help you spot and treat the signs of a blockage early enough to save a life.
Prayers for dear little Luffy. I hope they caught the issue early enough to help him. I currently have 4 in my business, Sierra, Olaf, Charley and Zeke. We've lost 13 ferrets over many years. You're absolutely correct, you need a ferret emergency budget to care for them when they get ill. We've put out thousands of dollars, but well worth it. They are family. Hugs. Please keep us updated.
Thank you so much. I think ferrets in particular need the finances set aside because they can go from healthy to deceased so quickly you need to have no hesitation to act. We appreciate the hugs and support 💖🙏🐾
Oh, my heart went out to you when you cried... I totally understand how it feels to get that kind of news. I'm so sorry that Luffy had to experience a dreaded blockage, but also... about the mass. I hope it's a "good" mass and not one of the worse. He's been such a good and brave boy! Thank you for sharing his health journey with us, as I know it must be so stressful, but it's defo good info to have and pass on to others to use in their own situations. Fingers crossed on good news in a few days, and pls pass on many hugs to Luffy as he gets better! And I send hugs to you as well. 💖🐾
Our girl had a mass in her lower abdominal area at age 2. She had surgery to get it removed, and celebrated her 7th birthday this past April! Prayers that Luffy will be fine 🖤 he’s a tough guy, a real fighter for life.
Many good points here for owners of all ages. One of the highlights of ferret bonding is that they grow to trust you. When one of my babies was sick, she wanted to stay with me instead of running around with her sisters. I managed to get a next day appointment. Your vet is good value at 120, it's 150 in Manchester. All medicines are extra here, not included in the 68 pound visit fee. But, this is why God created credit cards 😅. I have 7 ferrets, but I don't regret a penny that I have spent. Juice is having some dental work next week, also general anesthetic, but I can't say no. My eldest, Bonnie, is now 5 and a half, so adrenal disease is on the horizon. Let's hope for the best for all of the wonderful ferret people out there 😅
Thank you. I really appreciated reading that. Yes, where I live has a really low cost of living.. but, salaries are low and work is thin on the ground for many young people sadly. I'm also glad I have the financial means to care for my little babies... but it is so hard when you see them suffering 😔
I’m very happy he’s doing better and sad because of his mass You are probably very anxious to get the results,my female ferret has adrenal disease and is extremely expensive to treat it but I love her so I don’t care about the money I just want her to be happy please keep sharing your videos they are very helpful for me and others ❤😊
Hi, I'm so sorry about everything that's happening with Luffy. I had a ferret (Panchito). One day he woke up, he didn't want to eat, and he slept all day. In less than a week, he changed. He was tired, he didn't want to play or eat. Only 3 days passed and we took him to the vet, but it was too late. He had cancer and nothing could be done. It was all over his body. We only took him home, but it got worse and worse. He was only like that for a week. I couldn't see him suffering, and we had to make the decision to put him to sleep. That was 9 months ago and he still hasn't gotten over the fact that he's no longer by my side. He was my life partner. I miss him so much. My advice is that you enjoy the time you spend by his side and take care of them and love them very much. They are unique and extraordinary animals.
Thank you so much for sharing that story. It must have been hard to write... I really appreciate the advice and definitely spending time with them while you have them is a high priority for me... Dook in Peace little Panchito 💖🐾
Your video was amazing as usual… you are such a great ferret momma… I am so sorry to hear the news of your buddy… I will pray for you and Luffy. Big hugs! 💜🐾
Brings back memories to my wee poppet she started having what seemed like seizures I rushed her to the vet straight away but after 3 days nothing was helping so I had to agree to put her to sleep that was a £348 bill I couldn't even be there while she got put to sleep and still hate myself for that I hope floofy is OK you get so attached to the wee dears
@FerretTubeTV I still remember when I had a love and want for ferrets from the movie beast master .. never been able to be without ferrets for alot of years now
Thank you for documenting blockage protocol. I hope to never need to follow these steps, but I'm glad to have guidance if the need ever arises. Hope you and the floof crew are all either on the mend or doing well. Thanks
Im sorry about the mass news. I keep rats and i feel your pain ( they are grow on masses like weeds...). I couldn't agree more with the "If you can't afford to take your animal to the vet at ANY TIME, dont get one". I hope for a speedy recovery for you both!
Thank you. My cousins used to have rats and they were so cute and intelligent. My favourite one used the sit under my cardigan on my shoulder 🥰🐾 We appreciate the kind thoughts
Am praying it’s not adrenal disease… maybe is a benign growth? That can happen! Just… wishing you and the bebes the best… wish could give ya a hug… I know how you feel… both my little ones had adrenaline disease… it’s too common in ferrets… freaking breeders like Marshals don’t care about ferret health… just fur colors and patterns so they can make money… freakin evil. Sorry for going on a rant! I hope Luffy feels better! I hope he is okay! *ALL THE HUGS* ❤❤❤🙏
Dear Kate, I know how you must be feeling about Luffy. I have a little girl/lady that I adopted from a rescue 4 years ago (end August 2020) and aged 4 years old at that time. Dear little Shirley was found to have tumours on one of her adrenal glands (ultrasound scan) last year and had an implant to help offset the decease. She also has suffered ingested hairs from grooming that I managed to clear with Beaphar Multivitimin paste which I have used as a distraction to aid claw clipping as she likes the taste and acts as a laxative. Shirley suffers from recurrent impacted anal glands and has had then “squeezed” at the vet a couple of times but still a problem. When I first had her she was on a raw meat diet with no problems, then she refused all meals but for awhile had ferret biscuits, then refused those. What do I give her? Answer: real homemade chicken soup, success. Today, I have just made over 1.2 litres of it of which she downed her usual bowl tonight. I think Adrenal decease and anal glands can cause pains that might be present when pooing as she strains audibly at times. My little Shirley, I estimate to be over 8 years old now and time is not on her side. I will always love her and care for her forever. She is fast asleep in her bed beside me here in the kitchen and she will sleep in her bed next to me up in the bedroom. Your Luffy ❤️ looks exactly like my Shirley❤️. Kate, do remember that little rhyme: Ten little fingers, ten little toes… Four little ferrets all having fun … Now there is only one Shirley is that one. When a ferret comes into your life, it will steal your heart. When a ferret leaves, it will break your heart. Best wishes from Doug and little Shirley in Oxfordshire
Doug, what a lovely story. Thank you so much for sharing. 8 years is a ripe old age for a ferret. It seems like you have given her an amazing life - thank you for that. The homemade chicken soup sounds amazing... sending dooks from my business to yours 💖🐾
This was one of my random RUclips recommendations, and am loving the names Luffy and Zoro as a One Piece fan, but so so sorry for the problems with Luffy.
If you want to cheer up , you can watch my ferret and my dog under the couch getting comfortable with each other. I sent it via email with a youtube link. My friend had a ferret die if a blockage when i was realy young and ever since its the thing thats put me off from buying a couple. Im worried i cant keep a clean enough living space because if want them to have free roam if the house
Not completely sure it will help for ferrets but a wet/damp cottonstick/cotton swab over end belly, genitals and butt. Like mom used to do with grooming as a baby. And clockwise little belly rubs to kinda wake up the large bowel.
That may be true of some.. Mine have 24/7 access to an outside run as well as inside, and I do lots of activities with them. I hope they're happy and well 💖🐾

I have Healthy Poops & I also feed them raw egg yolks 2 times a week to help move them hairs. Especially during the shedding days. Watching this video hurts me to the core. I love my bean-footed furries and could not see them sick. Seeing Luffy struggle just kills me. I stay cleaning and making sure I leave nothing around that ferrets could swallow. These are the reasons why ferret owners need to have money put aside for emergency purposes. Good statement you made.. If you can't afford vet bills, then ferrets/pets are NOT for you. I thought adrenal cases were from neutered ferrets. My heart goes out to Luffy. Hopefully, that adrenal disease doesn't come to getting worse. " LET'S GO LUFFY!!! GET BETTER.. 🫶
The vaseline dose is just 100% vaseline with enough treat in it to make it appealing to eat. Give only a small teaspoon not heaped - and if things aren't starting to come out the other end after 5 hours, stop and take to the vet :)
