Don't Raise A House Wall Like This!

- We're adding the walls to the house build. The first wall is constructed and raised... in a dangerous way.
Then two more walls are built and put in place. We're getting there with this self-built home.

Oh my God, I thought that I was going to see a horror video! I can fully sympathise with you he had our hearts beating faster than normal. If there's anything else like this, let us know as we could pop down.
So glad to see you guys are fine. No more scary stuff now Mr Hayden. ;)
Aww thanks guys!! We’ll see how it goes!
You had us worried -I think we all expected to see it come crashing down
Wow. The marvellous ingenuity of man (Hayden) !!!
This house is becoming all very exciting now! Cant wait for the next vlog 👍
It’s feeling real now!!
This video was so well done. The music and commentary conveyed that awful fear one has watching someone you love do something potentially dangerous.
My brother built a cabin, a huge two story house and two large garages-workshops by himself. He did it and as Hayden not asking for help. Men! Haden is an awesome guy, like my brother they know how to do things like building by themselves.
Gosh, that sounds impressive!!!
Hayden is a very clever guy, i held my breath a few times, but he does know what he is doing and what his limitations are.
The walls are upward bound, awesome progress, Hayden is doing a wonderful job. Stay safe happy and healthy, from Henrico County Virginia
I am amazed at how Hayden can do anything. If my husband had just 50% of that I'd be happy 🙂
Hey Kay, you could've easily helped Hayden push up that main wall... But kudos to the man, he has the method and technique and he pulled it off superbly! Well done, Hayden... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hayden said it was actually safer without me possibly in the way 🤪 I’ll just fret from the sideline
He is some man for one man 😅 worth his weight in gold
Hi Karen, although Hayden might have given you a few scary moments in raising those walls he did a masterful job. He'd thought of all things and took his time to be safe. I think he'd done the same process before,he's definitely a "Master " of the construction business. Thanks for the msg re Patreon.I was a subscriber before and don't know why it got lost. As its spring in NZ now I can see the house will be move in ready by the end of Summer, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Reese has really grown into a really great little toddler who is no doubt into everything ss he explores the wider world.
Good luck with the build and everything else
Lots of love from me and Canada X
He did do a similar process for the door and window of the cabin. That 1st house wall just seemed too big to do!
I was sure you’d been a patron but couldn’t find you in the back end of Patreon - a mystery with what happened! Glad you’ve joined again. A big thank you.
Hayden will pause with the house build over summer for his event season, so we’re guessing the house might be liveable sometime next winter. I need to be patient 😆
As kids and into adulthood, a lot of praise comes with doing things completely on our own, which can make us think it’s not only the best way, but the only way. Regardless of gender. Learning the true strength in vulnerability and community takes time and tenderness.
Expressing your feelings is important, and maybe there’s a solution, like having your brother help for weighty projects. Hugs to you. Nothing but love to you both ❤️☕️
Oh my held my breath bloody hell, never seen this by one man
WEll that made my hands sweat lol.... Hayden makes it look so easy. We would love to build our own house.
Heart was pounding watching this
Good work Haden, very suspenseful! 😵💫
Hayden is amazing. Your house is going to be fabulous x
Nicely thought out and worked through method of raising the wall. A small change to consider for the next ones, start with 2 long diagonal braces nailed up near the top, then you don't need to worry about them falling down each time a section is moved.
He's doing a great job and actually managing the risk pretty well.
Hmmm interesting point!
My heart was in my mouth watching that.
I guess it would be scary to someone not used to building things alone, or watching construction, but really he did fine, I was more afraid watching Reese make a "beeline" for the nail gun, they are so fast! The place is coming right along.
He must be excited that all the music events over summer should be back on. Hope you are all doin well and keeping warm
Yes, hopefully things are back to normal this summer
I love the pink wood, is there any reason why pink? Also I was dreading the wall going up glad it went OK.
Pink in NZ shows the first level of wood treatment. Used to protect from insects. Wood is then used indoors and not exposed to the elements. That’s another level of treatment.
You guys are awesome and have followed your building of this project and I have done similar scary things so know how it goes. To others we would seem like lunatics but its a head down and achieve it moment that you will look back on and be proud,,,,,,damn im proud of you lol,,,keep the videos coming
Ah, a fellow DIYer! Glad you’re enjoying the videos Leslie
my dad was a shipwright/boatbuilder/housebuilder/swimming pool builder. Like Hayden he developed engineering skills to enable him to get things done..its what happens I guess when you build alone a lot. Not to say accidents don't happen and I think they happened more as he got older. After he slit his throat open with an angle grinder he always had someone on site when he was doing 'complicated' manoeuvres…luckily my brother was there to save him that time! its in the genes that no8 wire mentality. Im guilty of it around the house/my caravan/car too! All you can do is ask him to have someone there even when he doesn't 'need' their help :)
Yikes!!!!! That angle grinder story is a scary one!!! I'll keep letting him know I'm here to help if needed!
Looking great, and I think you are going to have the best views from your windows!
I just hope I got the right windows 😬😬
It is going to be a great house. Great work. Stay safe.
Paul,hi,,it is fireproofing ,I have seen same in CANADA, , SOME ARE BLUE, depends where it is, take care,🇳🇿🇳🇿🇺🇸🇺🇸
Oh blue wood? Interesting!
Multi-talented!
I could watch him work all day! Bit like watching a Supercars race and waiting for the first crash!
🤣🤣hopefully not crash here!!
I didn’t realize you are making videos again. Good to see you all and the progress. Bret
Welcome back Bret! I’ve been posting a video a fortnight. Wondering if RUclips hasn’t been sharing them?!
@@TravellingK I mostly watch on my TV now and subscribed channels show up differently when they have new content and easily missed.
Heart in the mouth for parts of that! So glad he is ok. House is starting to take shape now. Hopefully you will be living in there by next winter xx
I’m glad he’s ok too! It’s feeling like a real house now.
Go Hayden! good work sir! I know it's not how you 'should' do it, but he's getting it done - take care and crack on
Nerve racking 🙃. Talented man
Well done Hayden🙌👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Sweet as he nailed it ...
Haha indeed he did!
Phu, yes that was ....a way to do it. I think i have done the same....I works... Nice to see the house raise.
I guess it did work!
Karen, there is a guy on RUclips called 'The Crazy Framer'. He's a Canadian guy that build houses single handed. He uses a neat ratchet device and a 3x2 for erecting walls. Not balancing them on loose timber like Hayden! Take a look, he's pretty inspirational 🙂 It's also easier to put the ply/OSB skin on whilst the frame is on the floor. Also ensures the frame stays square too.
I wonder… Hayden showed me a video afterwards that sounds like this video! Would have been better for my nerves 🤣🤣
Its funny i put my caravan awning up this way and have erected a glass swimming pool fence but that doesnt weigh much :) great job guys Longer videos please :P
Sounds like the way to do it!
WOW WOW WOW a four man job done solo😮
Haha yes!! Hope things go easier for the rest…
OMG OMG 😱 WORRYING
Getting there! How exciting. Where there’s a will there’s a way! I love Hayden’s ingenuity.
Hayden’s definitely got the will!
I love windows that go all the way to the floor but in the US the kind of glass is about 3 times as expensive.
I’m exactly the same!! Seriously think the front windows are the one area I’m unsure about if I’ve made the right decisions
Go Hadyn.
Hayden is a LEGEND! Well done.
I think so 😜
Pink makes a pretty big difference..😍😎😁pip pips
It’s very eye catching from down the road 🤣
@@TravellingK 😁pip pips
My heart is in my mouth and beating so rapidly and loudly suspect you can hear it from here in Somerset!!
only because of the dramatic sound effects and the mislead at the beginning making us think something bad happened. without that there was nothing at all to worry about. he had it all under control the whole time. he was completely calm knowing he had it in hand.
Took ages for me to calm down!!
Oh my gosh in the sounds we hired a couple of strapping farm lads for a few hours to stand up our walls. Lol
Sounds like we need to find some local strapping lads! 🤣
Well that is worth a million views Karen! I was scared to death the whole time too!!!
It was a tense time!!!
You are right to put a disclaimer on this video to someone with no experience and knowledge this is dangerous. But Hayden was fine it was hard for him but he has the brain to nut out a solution and he does get people in when he needs them earthmoving etc; that being said had my heart in my mouth watching him 😂
I just kept thinking of everything that could go wrong 😬😬
Me too! I felt sick watching.
I was eating my lunch and had to pause thinking the frame was going to fall on him 🙈
Despite how it looked (slightly sketchy), I'd say good on Hayden! It would have been actually sketchy if he tried to lift it like that sheathed. And to be fair, it would have taken probably 3 able people to lift that in one shot. If you want to see something truly scary, check out "The Crazy Framer" on RUclips. He's a Canadian and hasn't uploaded in a while, but his work is phenomenal, inspiring, and terrifying lol.
You know, I think Hayden watched his video afterwards! 🤣
Let's just hope Hayden didn't pass the stubbornness along to the next generation. Pretty sure raising walls is a lot more efficient with a team of two or three at least!
Obviously Hayden knows what he is doing and has done it before? I couldn't help but notice a resemblance in his response just like my dearest. 'Would you like me to do that for you dear', NOPE.! 'Can i help you with that dear', NOPE! LoL.
🤣🤣 Glad it’s not just me.
KAREN,&HAYDEN,KAREN, your nerves must be frazzled , anyhow, let, me knowledge I can help th things from my end, , ok stay well, all of youGOD BLESS YOU ALL,,,,,,,🇳🇿🇳🇿🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you!! We’re getting there…
Kinda seems like this channel at this point should be renamed into "Hayden's house build and DIY"
Ouch!! Guess my time is currently focused on being a mum and editing 🤔
What's the red dye on the lumber?
It shows NZ’s first level of wood treatment. Protection agains insects. Only used inside the house, not exposed to the elements.
Lol do you have him insured 🤣 I can see me in him and my wife in you only difference is I would have fallen off something at least twice.
We should insurance Hayden! Ha I like that you see similarities
Why didn't you help him stand the wall? Its so much easier with two people, insist on doing it together, is it worth him getting hurt. Tell him to toe nail the bottom plate to the floor so acts as a hinge then it won't slip while its being stood up. Rhys is growing so fast.
We had a chat afterwards and he felt it was safer without my help 🤷♀️ I bow to his experience in the area. Our little boy does seem to be growing so so fast.
Hayden, please realize you are a human being. It is perfectly normal for more than one person to raise a framed wall like that. It has been done since the beginning of building homes.
At least he wasn't wearing his safety jandals this time.
🤣🤣🤣👏👏
Typical man. Watched my grandfather move his ton weight metal lathe across the section using slides and levers. That knowledge came in handy when I dug out a flat area for our car at our first house to move big rockes out of the ground and across to the "rock garden."
I gave my poor neighbour the hebie gebies. She keep coming over with cups of tea to make me rest. (I was a bit pregnant) but all was OK. Maybe that's why my son had a very rapid appearance with the doctor feilding him in time. Hahaha!
Yikes!!! That’s very impressive!!!!
Just don let im anywhere near a chainsa!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’ve heard that story!!
He is part Egyptian. Raising a wall is more exciting than watching a chicken.🐓
🤣🤣
Karen it's a guy thing Dear. And he did just fine. I am sure he will adjust his wall lifting skills as needed for each wall.
Men! It's disgusting when you love them and they start doing dangerous things.
Birdy
seriously scared me!
I really thought something bad was going to happen, either it crashing or Hayden injuring himself 🫣
I was thinking that while watching him do it!
