The new Tacoma sells are down over 59% quarter one of 2024 compared to 2023. It is kind of crazy for a brand new Toyota to be down so much. #toyota #tacoma
People only pay a premium for Toyota because of reliability. Slow, cheap interior, small space, it didn’t matter. We pay for legendary reliability, thats not in the books now so goodluck selling that mexican made hunk of junk for 50k lol
They are addicted to this hybrid narrative. They keep bragging about hybrid sales are up. Of course they are, 90 percent of all the Toyotas are hybrids now.
Test drove a 2023 taco and a 2024 frontier. Had no interest in the 4th gen Tacomas. I liked the frontier. Felt more modern and a little more powerful engine. But I stuck with the 23 Tacoma just cuz the resume it holds, aftermarket availability, and I got a great deal on a trd pro. Both are great options. Sucks the 2024 tacos went backwards in their mindset.
I have a Frontier in transit to the dealer right now, buying now while I can get what I want before it's gone. I don't want a turbo 4 cylinder or that cylinder canceling crap.
My 2004 VW Jetta turbo diesel has more that that. Ever hear of the Mercedes 300 Turbo Diesel? It’s literally the longest lasting car ever made. Wake up, and stop listening to the sheep.
I just took a test drive in the most base Tacoma SR. It had no options and this was before any dealer adds. It was $41,000 before nitrogen, doc fees, taxes, etc. Out the door, it would probably be $45,000+. That's just too much for a small pickup!
@musclesmouse I'm willing to argue that he's playing for the green-colored tire cap that the dealership put on there to make the customer think that they actually filled the tires with pure nitrogen. 😂
Toyota is staring to get out of the truck business. The new tundra is barely a truck with the six cylinder and the new Tacoma with the 4 cylinders is just a Camry with a bigger trunk.
Mike Sweers made a comment when he was chief engineer. He said and executive, perhaps the CEO, told him to give the customers what they wanted instead of what he thought they wanted. Well, look at what they’re doing now. Prices are outrageous. People are holding on to their vehicles longer and perhaps buying used for the next vehicle. Unless they can afford to buy new and pay those prices.
At least they dropped the CVT transmission for the Pathfinder. Nissan seems to be learning their lesson, poised to take all of the loyal old school Toyota fans. At least until 2029 unless somebody neuters the EPA and CA trying to set up national policy over other states. The current Frontier was obviously meant to compete with the Gen3 Tacoma at a better price point and Toyota just handed over the keys.
The number of new Frontiers that I've seen on the road has greatly outnumbered the number of new Tacomas -- and for all of the reasons that have been mentioned here.
Finally saved up for a Tacoma, went to the dealership, can't believe the outrageous quotes I got from 2 separate dealerships. I'm going to have to wait awhile till prices get more realistic.
I was saving for a Gladiator, but I'm not paying their overinflated prices either. These mid-sized trucks are being priced higher than what some full-sized trucks should be.
I drive a 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4-door, Auto, V-6, TRD, I drove it out of the Dealership Oct. 2010 for $28,876.35 loaded. It was my 3rd trip to the Dealership, the first 2 trips I walked out, however they had my cell number and kept calling back every 5 days "we can do better." Anyway, love my Tacoma, the milage is super low (40,000 miles) and the reason is I have a 2010 Toyota Camry (96,000 miles). OK, back to the Tacoma, the maintaince is low, I do it myself (retired diesel tech). PS: My last job before retirement was in a Wholesale/ Retail Diesel Turbo Sales Warehouse. That's where I learned more about turbos than I already knew. What I learned was stay away from them in Gas ICE. Some day that turbo is going to have to be replaced. Let's say the replacement turbo cost $750.00 medium price. If you put it on yourself that's fine (not easy) but if you take it to a shop, it'll be $800 to $1100 labor, so now were looking at $1500 to $1850 repair on a part you didn't need on the former Toyota 4 or 6 cylinder. Doesn't make any sense to me, I think I'll keep what I have till they come up with something better, if that ever happens.
So glad I bought my 2022 SR5, knowing at some point, that Toyota is gonna go on the Turbo side. If I have to purchase another truck in the near future, it’s gonna be a Nissan frontier, for as long as they stay with natural aspirated engines.
Definitely. Four years ago, I leased a Tacoma SR5 with a sticker price of only $32K and some change. Sadly, that same equivalent nowadays would easily be $45K+. Pure greed for sure!
I laughed my ass off when I saw a '24 Taco marked down $5000 that a local Toyota dealer had on display at a minor-league baseball game the other night. 😂 It felt SO good to see Toyota finally get theirs.
Local dealer has them stacked 2 deep. 4Runners are selling out - Doing the same thing to the 4Runner later this fall with the '25's. Tried to get one, but the dealer drove me away with ridiculous add-ons, so I found a '23 at a hurting Ford dealer that was willing to do a great deal.
Time for Taco buyers to start buying cheap Frontiers and send a big message to Toyota. Most of these companies are trying to offset their EV sales with their ICE sales. If I were in the market I would go to Nissan and look heavily at a Frontier, I hear they are trying to give their trucks away. If Frontier sales won't skyrocket up, Toyota sure won't follow suit and stuff a V6 in this one. They won't see it as worth the money.
People try to justify the turbos saying toyota has made them for years they are on other models they will be fine and they had to drop the V8 and V6 because of the epa etc all that is b/s. Toyota does get kickbacks from the gov on these smaller motors but they can still make a V8, V6 if they wanted to all the other truck compaines offer a V8 still but toyota stands to make more $$$ on these smaller engines. As far as the turbos go people are comparing them to other cars that don't tow and weigh much less than a truck so they don't see the same stress as a truck would. These new turbo trucks will not last as long as the older models just do a search on how long does a turbo last and you get up to 150k sure there will be some that go more or less and a turbo on a diesel is not a fair comparison, it's these small turbo engines in a larger truck do not last very long that small motor is going to be stressed out.
I admit I'm a Toyota fanboy. I owned a Celica and a MR-2 in my younger years. My current vehicles are a Rav-4 SUV and a Sienna minivan. I'm looking for a mid-size pickup truck and I never though I would be considering a Ford Ranger or Nissan Frontier over a Tacoma. However, there is simply no way I can consider buying the current generation of the Tacoma regardless of how much of a fan I am of Toyota.
It was pretty cool when the Tacoma was built in the US... especially with that fantastic v6. You could buy a great truck knowing you're also helping a fellow American put food on the table. 🇺🇸

My ‘99 Tacoma with 330,000 miles is treating Me just fine. Wanted one of the new ones. But with a 4 Cylinder turbo or electric?? No thanks. I’ll keep My 99
Same here. My 07 4WD Tacoma has 333,000 and has had no serious problems. Manual transmission, still original clutch and no rust other than surface discoloration on hood which I painted with a paint brush. Much better to invest in future repair than buy a new one.

It's what I've been saying and I live in the Bay area where people will buy any ridiculous thing like the cyber truck just to have something new. Haven't seen one yet on the road and I commute a lot😮
You said it right Toyota had a such trust with the public. They certainly lost my trust and I am not buying the new Tacoma with the 4 cylinder turbo crap in it.
At this point in the gen 3 release, they were everywhere. Couldn't drive 5 mins without seeing one. I have seen a grand total of one of these on the road.
Does anyone know if the seating position was actually improved to the point where they are any more comfortable to get in and out of and sit in? I test drove a 23 and it was terrible so I went with the frontier which was much more comfortable.
Overlooking the 4 cyl motor and making this truck way to complicated, the huge problem is greed by those in the car industry. The price of just the SR5 truck at 0:43 is $37,330. The "distributor" puts on BS options for $2,547 and then charges $1,495 for delivery which totals $4,042 bringing the total to $41,372. Why takes $1,495 to deliver a car defies logic. If a commercial car carry can carry 8 trucks, that totals almost $12,000 for one trailer load of delivery. Crazy. Now the car is at the dealership, so they must add on another $2,895 worth of BS options and fees. Now the new total is $44,267, which means $6,937 has been added to a truck that was originally going to cost $37,330. This means the greed of people has added over 18% to the cost to buy a truck. Crazy. For me, I am going to keep my 6 cyl 3rd Gen w/manual. Good luck selling these overpriced trucks.
2:20 Anyone bothered by the body panels that look like they have been in collision up/behind each wheel well? Looks horrible. Looks like a poor 3D model in a video game.

#1 reason sales are down is the price.
It's not just that. It's a legitimately ugly truck!
Plus interest rates, and straight up inflation of everything..
No V6
Fanboy here, Toyota prices never bothered me but i will not pay V6 prices for a 4 cylinder engine. This is the ultimate betrayal.
@@rl8571 they're charging too much for the truck even if it came with a V6
High price and low quality.
Toyota is going with the Disneyland park model - charge way more, quality is way less, and breakdowns are a good possibility
Let them rot on the lot. Too Greedy. Shame on Toyota and the Dealers.
The new Tacoma is a joke. Doesn’t stack up to the competition and Toyota is charging 20% more for an inferior truck.
The competition offers more
Base price increase for the Pro is 40%. What a joke.
They are addicted to this hybrid narrative. They keep bragging about hybrid sales are up. Of course they are, 90 percent of all the Toyotas are hybrids now.
Just stop buying overpriced sh*t
No V6 no sales Pretty simple
Turbo is BAD NEWS
They should of offered it as an option. Ease it in. Let people buy what they need/want. Give customer a choice
Missing v6 is reason why I’m not buying
Toyota's leadership is too proud to admit they made a mistake.
Toyota's NEW leadership
Huge ass mistake.
Go across that street and check out the frontier
I hear their sales are up; still available with the V-6.
It is a better deal at the moment. The frontier is also underrated for reliability. Could take the tacomas place on top got to advertise more.

No one wants to pay $45k for a $35k truck…
Prices are too high. Interest rates are high. People don't have money to buy expensive vehicles.
Interest rates are making car payments go up crazy times are getting harder
They've ruined the Tacoma, they've ruined the Tundra.......Now they're coming for the 4 Runner. It's very sad.
Fire whoever approved the 4 cyc and v6 tundra
I have been buying Tacomas for over 20 years. But this is the end for me. If I can't get a Taco with a V6, forget it.
Toyota thought they could use brand loyalty to reduce quality and raise prices and still sell trucks!
exactly, never buy a Toyota again
We don't want a overpriced, Mexican made, turbo four banger Tacoma.

loyalty on quality and not on the brand
My 2018 Off Road nicely loaded V6 with under 32k miles, is going to remain with me for a long time. Thanks Toyota for saving me money.
Does anyone know if the seating position was actually improved to the point where they are any more comfortable to get in and out of and sit in? I test drove a 23 and it was terrible so I went with the frontier which was much more comfortable.
Front seating position is much improved on 2024. The steering wheel also tilts and telescopes.
@@planoman0935 that’s good, the previous generation was designed for very small people.
@@Commentleaver-c6x I have always heard that but I am almost 6 feet and never had an issue in my 3rd gen but I heard the issue repeatedly.
This debacle is caused by three little letters ,E.P.A.
Bought a new 2021 love the truck second Tacoma I’ve bought wouldn’t even consider the new model for half price
Was it built in Mexico. My 2023 was.
Was excited about the new model until the details started to come out along with the price and now am No longer considering a Tacoma.
2:20 Anyone bothered by the body panels that look like they have been in collision up/behind each wheel well? Looks horrible. Looks like a poor 3D model in a video game.
I did not notice that It really does
