Sharing of knowledge is endless. 5 years later you just helped me tremendously... Am waiting on arrival of the Fi2000r to balance out my Honda Sabre 1300 with Cobra Speedster Swept exhaust and Cobra Power Flow Intake... Yeahhhhh u helped a lot... Thanks for video
you can see how much better your bike runs around the end of the video. just found this in a vtx 1800 i bought and you've helped me learn how to use it. great vid.
Dean Thank You for the great video I had installed the Fi2000 system on my bike and it worked good, but it really started back firing on deceleration I watched your video and made an adjustment to Green Pot #1 and it stopped and now it runs great. Thanks Amigo !!!
I installed the Cobra power commander I didn't adjust anything, left it as it was originally. I was using 91 fuel octain, I changed it to 87 after installing the power commander and it works so much better. Thanks for your videos and reply.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2015 Yamaha Stryker, and this video helped me tune the cobra fuel controller, to make this awesome bike WAY faster, while eliminating backfire.
Thanks Dean, hopefully picking my 07 V Star up next week 🤞, this well documented explanation of this setup will be beneficial to me...........cos you gota ave loud pipes!! 👌👍👍💪
Have an 07 1300. Came with a Baron's Big Air and Roadhouse Slip on. Gonna be nervous trying to figure this all out. Watching now but will be coming back to help with fine tuning. Cheers mate!
Great video, I am currently running/testing my FI2000R CL on my '07 Vstar 1300 tourer. I have the stock air box drilled out with a high flow air filter and the rear baffle drilled out of the stock exhaust. My current settings for pots 2-3-2, I am happy with pot 1 & 2, I am still testing pot 3. It's surprising how much of a difference it makes from stock.
In all honesty, 1 should be enough for pot 1. if you disconnect the battery (negative) for a few mins, re connect, set the standard settings to 1.3.1. start up the bike, leave to idle a few mins then take it for a run. after 15 mins or so, boost pot 3 to 2, then restart, that should give your ecu enough time to relearn. will save you fuel on pot 1. My pot one is on 2 1/2 with a barons big air kit, and drag exhausts. you can check your spark plugs to see if your tune is right. plenty of guided pics on google. Deffo agreed on the difference it makes power wise.
Have you got a new intake and exhaust or they stock? If stock, it becomes a whole new beast once you've put performance pipes on, and a decent air intake, followed by a tuner. Mine currently is an animal.
It is bone stock, just picked her up today. Went to the bike shop for oil, and left with a 1300 LOL. I will for sure, had a cobra on my old M50 never could get it setup right.
My settings would work for you but only if the same exhaust and air intake. If you're happy with it's power now, just adding a k&n air filter to it, and a cobra slip on exhaust will give you a tad more up and go. Thats what I started with, then added the hypercharger, then the exhaust, then had a dodgy running bike till I installed the cobra tuner.
Is a sweet looking bike, sounds really good too. Was watching some of your vlogs earlier in the week. Helped me decide to a 1300. The bolt is way to small to ride very far. I regretted buying it.
Cheers mate. I love the look of the bolt and can see where Yamaha was going with it, but way too small for me. I'm 6ft2 230lbs. IF you would like the foot controls moving a little further forward, search for scootmods. They do a 3" to 6" extension kit for less than $80/£55. I have the 6" on, but had to bend the rear brake light button cover as I scratched the back of my rear fender like an idiot. The 4" no problems though.
I have a 2007 v star 1300 new to me and my first bike. It has cobra slip on and a fi2000 set to 2/3/1 when I'm in first it lugs like crazy and when I roll off the throttle in any gear I feel like I hit a wall the bike slows so much am I doing something wrong should I change setting on any of the pots?
From what I remember 1-3-2 was the guide setting for your setup. Try loving pot one up a tiny bit. Make sure the bike is warm first, turn off, move up half a notch, turn back on and ride. If that makes no diff try the same with pot 2. As far as the slowing bit, the tuner won’t affect anything. If you’re in a high Rev and just let go of the throttle, engine breaking will hit hard but shouldn’t feel how you describe. There’s nothing on the tuner that can change that. You may need a mechanic to look over the bike.
Hey Dean ? It's so funny when I hear your laugh. But I think skeggys a little more evil when he laughs when he's riding. How you doing buddy I guess you have a Harley now oh, I talked to you last year Run August good job good video always💗John Graham Cincinnati Ohio. Stratoliner 49k.
Sir Martin, great videos you put out!. Love the sound of your bike, I'm deciding between cobra speedster xtra longs and hard krome 3 inch straights. I like the longer look. But do you find on a long cruise that your pipes get to loud? Yours seem to be a lower tone than cobra's and only really bark at heavy pulls. Sounds very pleasing. Thanks again!
Just installed this today on 2012 Stryker. I have Cobra Powerflo intake and Cobra 2 into 1 slip on. Instructions say settings as 2.5. 5. 3. Your thoughts? Thanks for this vid.
Sounds a little high numbers for just the slip on. Personally I’d start on 1-3-2, Ride around for half a tank of fuel to let the efi do it’s own thing also. Then you can make any minor changes needed. The third pot doesn’t really come into effect till you’re in the higher rpm range.
Currently, I have a different air intake now, a barons big air kit. teh hard krome american classics, and it is on 2 1/2, 3 1/2, 4. If you're in the states, then I recommend getting the Ivans flash tune first, then the tuner. Unfortunately the states ecu and eu ecu are different so we cant have ivans flash tune :(
Hi again Mr Dean have had the ingine light on? My vstar 1300 just turned the light on its code 24 Wich is oxigen sensor. Just wondering how to turn it off. Thanks again for your videos they're great. I keep on watching all over again. I just didn't about 950 miles on mine, but that's when the light turned on ☹️
Do you have an exhaust that doesn't use the 02 sensor? If so you'll need a sensor bypass which is prob £10-£20 from ebay. If that's not it, theres a sequence you do with the buttons and I can't remember what it is.
I gave the 2009 model of the 1300 just bought it aweek ago,my question is does your friend with the 2009 gave a youtube would like some info on the 2009 or if you gad any input
Unfortunately that's a Yamaha trait. If you're in the states you can get an Ivan's ECU Flash. That will sort everything out. UK ECU's won't accept the tune.
My bike has the o2 sensor, and my Fi2000r is hooked up to it. I was just wondering if it would be better to unhook the fi2000r from the o2 sensor and put the o2 bypass plug on the fi2000r. Or, just keep it unplugged and no bypass plug.
The instructions from Cobra says if you have a closed system, to leave the green pot set a 1, they say it doesn't make a difference because of the o2 sensor. What are your thoughts on it?
bikes come lean from factory anyway to account for emission control. factory lean wont really damage your bike, but it also wont allow it to be at its best performance. If you adjust and make very lean then thats bad for your engine, as is also running very rich.
Ivans system doesnt do anything as far as adjust fuel ratio for a new exhaust or air intake. It adjusts the ecu to a better condition rather than the factory lean condition. it improves throttle response, rpm limit increase and a few other bits. If it worked on my uk model I'd have it. then if you add a high flow exhaust or air filter, you need a tuner to adjust the fuel air ratio. having ivans flash for the ecu and a fuel controller youll get the best out of your machine.
you wont need anything that high at all for what you have. that will be mega rich. put everything at 0 on a cold bike, then start without touching the throttle. leave for a few mins for the ecu to readjust. then ride for 10-15 mins and warm the bike up. no thrashing, just very steady, at 30mph speeds and hold at a consistent speed. if there is no surging (bike feels like its dropping power and jumping a bit), after 15 mins then do not touch pot 1 as your ecu is doing a good enough job. Then do some harder pulls in 3rd and 4th from a cruising rpm, just for a few mins to get the feel of it. then turn the bike off, adjust pot 2 to 1. do the same again, the throttle will feel a bit more responsive. try again but move the pot up 1/2 at a time, and keep doing this till it feels no different. once feels no different, move it back down half a notch. at a guess you shouldnt need anymore than 2.5. pot 3 is harder to adjust. find and open road (a road is better), and do some higher rpm pulls in 3rd and 4th (manual says 5th but you wont get too high without speeding). do a few high rpm pulls to get the feel for it, then turn bike off, adjust pot 3 to 1, and try again. keep going till it doesnt feel any different. at an assumption, with your baffles in, I think as an educated guess either 0-2-2, 0.5-2-2 or 0.5-3-2.5. if you dont want to change your air box, get a k&n filter. then all those settings will prob needed to be moved up by 1 on each setting.
Hi there. I have with interest seen one of your videos on youtube. I...t was the one where you are tuning your "Cobra Fi2000R O2 Advanced Tuning - How to... (V Star 1300)". I have the same bike as you XVS 1300, but a 2010 model. I am from Denmark. I was hoping you could tell me the exact model number of your Cobra Fi2000R O2. I really appreciate your help. No Cobra are not any help, to us European customers. The stated in a mail to me that the model I am looking for could be "a 2 pot adjustable 92-1774CL". But you are using a 3 pot adjustable......the Cobra FI2000R ARB O2 Fuel Processor for Yamaha VStar 1300 model 92-1774CL-50 is a option. All I want is the same model as you are using on your European model XVS1300. Is it possible for you to find the exact model number you have installed. I really don't want to end up with the wrong model here. Thanks again.
the american model and european model is exact the same. only difference is we have a more unrestricted ecu. www.ebay.com/itm/Cobra-Fi2000R-O2-Fuel-Processor-92-1774CL-08-0970-1020-0359-/331454565766?epid=1740602707&hash=item4d2c3b4d86:g:paYAAOSwmrlUvXRn&vxp=mtr

Ok. I see it, thank you Mr. Martin, you videos are very informative. I will unplug the sensor to see how it works out.
Thank you for making this detailed video.
Just traded in my bolt for a 1300, man its a sweet ride. Already have 60 miles on it and only owned it for 6 hours.

Would a g force meter be helpful?
Nice Video :) Do you do any Colorgrading and sharpening in postproduction or di you just use the video right out of the gopro?
Cheers!
Cheers mate. No I add a few bits to it, 2% sharpening, 10% contrast, and a light grad filter over the sky to darken it a tad.
So what what numbers did nice leave each pot on for the final outcome? Thanks. Just installed my today gonna play with it tomorrow

Hard Kromes for this one.

What info do you need? All the 1300’s are pretty much exact the same. The 09 is exact the same as 08.
My bike feels good, but it still pops when decelerating. Is that a sign that it needs further adjusting, or is some popping expected?
Unfortunately that's a Yamaha trait. If you're in the states you can get an Ivan's ECU Flash. That will sort everything out. UK ECU's won't accept the tune.
Do you get alot more vibration with this aftermarket exhaust and FI2000 installed
not really mate. its not really any different.
Hey man, Im going to buy another air filter, do you recommend this with a new air filter and a cobra exhaust?
deffo pal. sorry for the delay in replying. If just an exhaust or filter, then no but both together its a must.
what kind exhaust you have on bike ?
Can you use the 02 sensor bypass plug with the Fi2000r? Would it make any difference?
Yes. If you do, pot one becomes more active as it’s not gathering information from O2 sensors.
I’m sure they make a version for no o2 sensors. Maybe it’s just the fi2000r
I have the 07 model. I have to unplug the 02 sensor, but Which one is it?
If you look on your exhaust side, There is a plastic cover below the seat. below that there is a triangular cover. The O2 sensor is behind there
The O2 sensor is right there in your muffler. Just follow the wiring. U need to take out the right seat cover.
My bike sounds like it has a very small miss and I asked about it and apparently it's normal to run lean for eoa stuff
Tune it through plug chops. The plug tells you what you need to do
my issues is, what if you run into an issues where you are running lean, and the bike might feel great, but you're in a lean condition?
bikes come lean from factory anyway to account for emission control. factory lean wont really damage your bike, but it also wont allow it to be at its best performance. If you adjust and make very lean then thats bad for your engine, as is also running very rich.
Dean UK Biker Martin are you familiar with Ivan's tuning?
yeah but his tunings dont work on uk ecu's. not on the vstar/xvs anyway. only on imports.
Dean UK Biker Martin what would be the difference or pros/cons of his vs doing this or any other fuel management system?
Ivans system doesnt do anything as far as adjust fuel ratio for a new exhaust or air intake. It adjusts the ecu to a better condition rather than the factory lean condition. it improves throttle response, rpm limit increase and a few other bits. If it worked on my uk model I'd have it. then if you add a high flow exhaust or air filter, you need a tuner to adjust the fuel air ratio. having ivans flash for the ecu and a fuel controller youll get the best out of your machine.
would that apply to 2011 stryker?? just installed vance and hines +fi2000r seems lil rich on low and mid and getting a back fire at high..
it should be the same way of setting up on all bikes. do you have an aftermarket air intake? high flow like the hypercharger or powrflo?
Dean UK Biker Martin stock besides the new pipes... i believe its set up a 2-5-5 feels like that would be too high
you wont need anything that high at all for what you have. that will be mega rich. put everything at 0 on a cold bike, then start without touching the throttle. leave for a few mins for the ecu to readjust. then ride for 10-15 mins and warm the bike up. no thrashing, just very steady, at 30mph speeds and hold at a consistent speed. if there is no surging (bike feels like its dropping power and jumping a bit), after 15 mins then do not touch pot 1 as your ecu is doing a good enough job. Dean UK Biker Martin will try some of those out thank you.
in your video at minute 3:54.. where did you get those settings?
What happens when tuner quits working?
More money out of my pocket to buy another?????
Mine hasn't quit yet. Suppose you can say that about any part you add to your bike.
Did you ever try the 950
I’ve ridden the 950. Wasn’t a huge fan. Not compared to the 1300.

Michael Kjeldsen it's the FI2000R O2 for the VStar 1300 (not the custom)
Michael Kjeldsen if you search Google it should come up. Cobra themselves aren't very helpful. I'm working at the mo but can check later when home.

Thanks again. Just what I needed. I am now sure NOT to buy the wrong model.
can you lower idle?
No. You would have to do that with the idle screw on your bike. Personally I wouldn’t bother as efi bikes need to be a certain idle for the oil.
What ever came of your fuel economy? Did it improve?
initially yes when riding correctly. I decided to boost a bit higher and that killed fuel so lowerd just above recommended in the end.
Sinfin/willington ???
stenson fields and willington
thought i recognised it lol
Your on the wrong side of the road
