Just picked a couple up at Parts Plus the other day, liked having a snug fit on the core and the magnet.
+Stephen Rardon Nice😘👌Yay Steven in the house👏👏
Stephen do you have the appion if you do which do you like better
I've been using the Hilmor for the past few jobs i've done. The Hilmor pinches the core like crazy! and the magnet is super convenient !!
Jon what I usually do to test after I installed a new core and it's not leaking is pull the plunger back out and close the ball valve . Then slowly open valve to test .
Yeah that's a good way Justin. Thanks 4 watching my man.
Why didn't you use a Schrader core torque wrench to be certain that the Schrader is tightened to the proper torque?
I bought 3 of these and I dont love them. You gotta lube it up around the core remover stem every time you use it and it's still not a smoothe glide in and out. All mine seem to get caught up on the ball valve when you pull the core out. I bought 3 appion ones and they are smoothe as can be.
This will be the third tool I will be buying because of your reviews lol, thanks Jon
My vids tend to have that effect on people hehe. You obviously have great taste. Thanks for watching man
Great review Jon. I love the magnet feature.
Thanks man. Magnet me up son :)
Nice review! I think the magnet on the tool makes it a step up from the rest. Convenient!
Thanks Eric. It is a nice feature.
nice video thank you. Do you think it would handle the newer flammable refrigerants?
Thanks. Good question, I'll try to find out 4 u.
It's currently only UL rated for: R12, R22, R134A , R410A, R404A, R500 & R502. hilmor is going to look into certifying it for flammable refrigerants .
the magnet part sold me, to bad gotta wait till April good explanation Jon.
THE HVAC GUYS Good things come to those who wait. Thanks Eddie
Hilmor is raising the bar once again, they look to be not as bulky and the Appion and the snug fit on the core and the magnet is a plus, wonder if they fit on the older Rheem/Rudd units with service valves on the inside of unit. Cecee on the prowl.
That's a good thought on the Rheems. I will try to test that when I come across one. I would like to compare it to the Appion as well. Mr. Cee-cee takes no prisoners :) Thanks 4 watching
how common is it to cross thread when reinstalling?
was that unit running while you did this, or was that a neighboring unit that kicked in while filming?
thanks for taking the time to record and answer.
Not to common, I believe CPS makes a tool to fix problems like that. I killed the unit right before filming. The noise was a neighboring unit. Thanks 4 watching!
nice can't wait hilmor make's some really really awesome rugged hvacr tool's!!!!!
They are making HVAC tools great again! Hehe!
Thanks for watching
It looks like a terrific tool. I'll bet, come April, we'll learn that the tool will cost way over $100. That rules me out. This tool is, no doubt, exceptional in quality and finish...but I can't justify the price. I currently have (one of each) Appion, Yellow Jacket, and CPS valve core tools. Of course the Appion's fit and finish is superior to the other two, but you know what? All three work about the same...and I can buy three of the CPS tools for what I paid for the Appion. I must confess that I have felt the allure of one of these "super-premium" tools. In a moment of weakness I bought my hilmor tube bender. It "IS" a fantastic tool. But, even after using it for two years, I don't think I would buy another one...simply because it is not worth (in my mind, for my work) the 100% premium price it cost, over the MasterCool bender it replaced. Instead of putting my money into "premium" tools I find that I have been putting it into improving other things...like the quality of the parts and hardware I've been using. Everything from better quality electrical parts to tubing. I admit, I'm an oil-heat parts snob...nothing but genuine Beckett and Riello parts will do. Now I've been extending that philosophy to the other components that go with the job. Seems to make for a more satisfied customer (and more money in my pocket) at the end of the day. Sorry for the long lecture...just my $.02.
It's not too bad in price. Found it on amazon for $56 (links in the description). I don't have an Appion one but, everyone I've seen here on YT seems to prefer it. It's good to own different brands of the same item sometimes. Each one may do it a little better vs the other one in certain situations. One size doesn't always fit all. We all had that moment of weakness man :) CPS does not have a strong presence in my area. They seem to make good stuff though. At the end of the day we just have to do what's right for ourselves. I enjoyed the lecture :)
the magnet might come handy. A few spare "O" rings without asking might be handy also.Looks to be quality.
That's a good thought, most people would probably lose them if they did though.
Thanks 4 watching!
Sweet Jon. I didn't know it was vacuum rated. Magnets make like better.
Thanks Ulises. Magnets make everything better, except hard drives :)
Thanks 4 watching
Well done Jon 💪🏻👍🏻
Thank u sir
Cee cee the lizard slayer. Are you going to pull a vacuum with it to see if it's how it dose. And thoughts on it leaking in the future. Thanks Jon enjoy the videos.
Jon HVAC- I agree with Nor-Cal. I want to see a Vaccum test. I have a Yellow Jacket and leaks. Great video 👍👍
He is Mr. Dave...he can spot one a mile away hehe. The seals on this seem really good and it is vac rated...plus free seal kits. I will see what I can do on the vac test guys. Thanks Mr. Dave
Thanks
Jon HVAC - ohh you call him Mr. Dave and I call him Amazing Dave. Potato potatoe..👍👍
Well sometimes I call him danger Dave :)
Jai des probleme avec le mien(5/16) le bout ces séparer de l'outil
Very cool Jon
Thanks Mr. D
ITS Better than appion?
Well that's up for debate. I don't own an Appion so I can't say. I've heard good and bad about both.
Great review.
+Air Mechanical Thanks👍
which one works for 134a?
This should work as long as It's not a mini-split or automotive.
It is for automotive. I'm looking for a great quality valve core removal tool.
Richard Cowtails Look on amazon.com
Very good
The 5/16" version ain't so damn nice. The slot is too narrow for some 410a system valve cores. Won't engage the core to loosen. I bet more than one frustrated technician has stripped one using this tool. This was on a new system when I was trying to remove cores for vacuum. Hate modifying a brand new tool to make it work. Also had one core that was too long to let me turn shut off valve when pulled remover stem out. I pulled core completely out verified it was still in the remover stem, just not enough room in the tool to hold core while still in the tool.
Thanks for that info👍
"Wow!"
Haha thanks 4 watching
How would your rate the quality/fit-and-finish compared to Appion's core remover tool...?
Just got the Appion the other day and love it, wish it had a magnet though.
Neat!
not bad...
Sayang di negara ku tidak ada barang ini😑
