  • Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Snook, all caught with the Green Lantern. With water temperature in the low 70's the fish are getting more active in the back waters of the Intracoastal waterway. Winds can get quite gusty this time of year, especially in the afternoon, so it's best to get out early if you can. It's a great time of year for inshore kayak fishing in Northeast Florida.

    Man that was a good day. Wish I could make it down there. Saltwater is my favorite but it’s a long trip from north Georgia.

    Great job. I was curious what you were wearing on your feet? Boots? Do they go up over your calves?

    • @FishingwiththeOz
      @FishingwiththeOz  Год назад +1

      NRS Boundary Boots, that I use during the winter. I have long legs so they go up around mid calf for me. I ordered 1/2 size up from my regular shoe size and also put in a pair of super feet insoles as I didn’t like the flat soles and needed more arch support. I have not fished pellicer creek yet, turning left at the ramp like you did, is it deep enough for a gheenoe with an outboard? I’m on navionics scouting it out and it looks like 1-2ft, what do you think oz?

      It is usually deep enough but can get skinny in places, especially toward low tide. Just go slow as shallow areas, sand bars and oyster beds can sneak up on you quickly.

    Great video Oz. I'll be down in Ponte Vedra next week with my hobie looking to break her into inshore fishing. Any tips for hunting trout/red/flounder? Thanks in advance!

      Hopefully the weather cooperates for you. It's been windy and chilly as of late. The easiest place to break into inshore fishing is Guana Lake - launch at the Six Mile Landing Boat Ramp in Ponte Vedra - no services there other than one terrible port a potty. The Lake is shallow, not deeper than 3 ft for the most part - good for Reds and Trout. Another option for breaking into inshore fishing is The Salt Run in St Augustine - launch at the Lighthouse Boat ramp and fish docks on west side and/or oyster beds on eastern shoreline. If you want to travel a bit you can try fishing Pellicer Creek by launching at the Faver Dykes State Park boat ramp ($5 entry). That area may be a bit more challenging due to stronger current at times but still do-able. You can easily find all of these places online. If you don't have a stake out pole I highly recommend getting one. The 7ft 8inch park n pole from Yak Attack is what I use. The stake out pole allows you to hold position in wind and current. If you see any gators, just give them a little room and you will be fine.

      @Fishing with the Oz thanks for the heads up. I was thinking about putting in south of the damn at guana to maybe get to some deeper water near the river.
      I've heard promising things about the Huguenot area and jetties. Was honestly just going to put in at a few different spots and give it a whirl.
      Obviously you had success on the green lantern, would you suggest sticking to slow rolling paddle tails?

    • @FishingwiththeOz
      @FishingwiththeOz  Год назад

      @@LastKastFishing I use paddle tails of varying colors, usually have a light color and a darker color rigged and throw both to see if fish have a preference. Usually no more than 1/8 oz jig heads. I always have one rigged weedless to throw in grass or oysters. Popping cork with a shrimp lure has been catching some fish for me lately as well. Launching south of the guana dam is tidal dependent. The ramp can be a big mud pit at low. When I fish there I try to launch about 2 to 2. 5 hours before high and land about 2 hours after high. I use the Vilano Beach tide chart and add about 30 to 45 minutes (it can vary). Don’t know the Huguenot area so can’t help you there. Good luck!

      @Fishing with the Oz great point about the tide and mud landing south of guana lol.
      If you've got some time to put in next week, I'd be happy to meet up and fish together.
      Regardless, appreciate all the advice and best of luck out there!
