    As a Texas resident I'm so glad you loved the houston zoo! It's definitely one of my favorites. To add to your points about the zoo changing currently from what I've heard the zoo plans to renovate the world of primates after they finish the new birds of the world Expansion next year. President of the Zoo, Lee Ehmke has also hinted various times that the next project will be focusing on the section called Asian Islands. This will give the Tiger, Siamang, White-cheeked Gibbon, Clouded Leopard, and Orangutan all new homes as well as a new outdoor home for Small clawed otters. They also plan on giving the Asian Elephants even more space with the future Asia renovations. After that though it gets a little bit more unknown but they have talked about finishing the African Forest and also making a much larger and greater Africa exhibit for their lions, cheetahs, Painted dogs and more. As well as possibly turning the Carruth Natural Encounters into a dedicated Madagascar section with new species of bats and also moving the fossa over. Other possibly future projects include turning the children's zoo into a more dedicated Texas exhibit, adding a second entrance and building a new reptile house. The Houston Zoo has been working constantly to improve the zoo and with how amazing their past 3 exhibits were with Texas Wetlands, The Pantanal and Galapagos Islands I have total faith they will knock all the future exhibits out of the park!

      It's fantastic to hear about the ambitious plans the Houston Zoo has for its future expansions and renovations. It's evident that they are dedicated to creating innovative and immersive experiences for visitors while providing the best possible environments for the animals in their care. The Houston Zoo's commitment to continuous improvement and its willingness to adapt and grow are truly commendable. The excitement surrounding these future projects bodes well for the zoo and its visitors. 🐾🌿

    Lifelong Houstonian here, the zoo has always been my favorite place. I remember I was a kid when they bulldozed the American and endangered Chinese Alligator exhibits to make room for the first elephant expansion in 2008. Crocodilians are my favorite animals and I nearly cried. Despite my love for the zoo, it’s always bugged me how as the years went on, the zoo cared less and less about crocodilians. First they got rid of those gators, which sucks because they actually were breeding the Chinese gators. Then they refused to build a bigger enclosure for their unique white alligator Blanco so he ended up getting sent to a crocodile park in Angleton. For years the only crocs were whatever small juveniles they could fit in the reptile house. When the Texas Wetlands was announced, I got so excited, until it opened, and I was thoroughly disappointed in the new alligator exhibit. It was small, and very awkwardly designed with terrible visibility. If you’re lucky enough to see one of the gators, it’s from a bad angle. I love the zoo so much, it’s one of the best in the country, but it sucks how poorly they regard my favorite animals.
    Also: the standalone post in the background of 7:25 was my eagle project from when this exhibit housed Gerenuk!

    Fun fact: the reason why the all indoor Red Panda enclosure is so inadequate and strange is because it was originally designed for a wombat. It later exhibited an aardvark, two ocelots, and finally the red pandas.

    • @DarthQuell
      @DarthQuell 8 месяцев назад +1

      Wait, I remember the wombats, but then it felt like we switched to the red pandas overnight.
      Did the zoo really have an aardvark and then some ocelots in there?

    • @theimmigrant7953
      @theimmigrant7953 8 месяцев назад

      @@DarthQuell They sure did, I have an old map of the zoo with the aardvark on it and got to see it once myself. And the two ocelots were the same ones that were in the carnivore area who were then swapped out for the red pandas when their enclosure next to Natural Encounters was closed.

      Ideas I had are:
      1)expanding the giraffe exhibit where the rhino and backstage rhino exhibit is and turning the twiga cafe building into a giraffe feeding area. Then place the rhino in the large savanna exhibit and put the cafe in between the current carousel and the future medical center entry.
      2)Or expand the rhino where the giraffe is now and place the cafe next to the carousel
