Sir, you are the best. I have tried to learn this in High school, Prep-course for Med school, and now trying to learn it in Med school. Finally, thanks to you, I completely understand the principle! Thank you!
Depends upon the charge of the particle. Usually it is an ionized hydrogen with an abundance of negative charge. there will most likely be a directional block in the source of this ionized particle stopping the positively charged particles from traveling, thus counterclockwise acceleration. Changing the polarity of the magnet will allow the same pathway to accelerate positively charged instead of negative.
Are the protons inside the plates? Are the plates empty? Also, what would happen to the particle if the polarity didn't switch, what would the trajectory be? Thanks
when the charge is inside the space between the two plates, it is acted upon by a coulomb force of attraction from one one of the plates.. and a force acting on any body causes it to accelerate as per one of newton's laws.. so an accelerating charge enters the dees everytim. this causes it to have a radius larger than the previous cycle..
a) the plates are metallic.. b)when the charge emerges out of the negatively charged plate and if the polarity didn't switch, it will again be attracted towards the same negatively charged plate..
when the charge is inside the dees, the charge will move along a circular trajectory, when it is in the region between the plates, it will accelerate towards the negatively charged dee but along a linear trajectory..
Dear Samia Zaman T=2 pi r/v it is time period of revolution or time=distance/speed ,so particle moving in a circular path travels 2pi.r distance / speed of particle. and v is speed not pd
why wouldn't a charge with negligible mass not accelerate? what has mass to do with the coulomb force of attraction on a charge.. when the charge is inside the space between the two plates, it is acted upon by a coulomb force of attraction from one one of the plates.. and a force acting on any body causes it to accelerate as per one of newton's laws.. i hope you get the point..
i know the magnetic feild is the reason of posative partical motion but what happend with the dees D magnetic feild we know that every electric plate or wire create magnetic feild so what happend with D magnetic feild please explain this
i know the magnetic feild is the reason of posative partical motion but what happend with the dees D magnetic feild we know that every electric plate or wire create magnetic feild so what happend with D magnetic feild please explain this and give us very explainful vidio
The video is correct. If you have a positive charge and it is moving to the left to start, as in the video, and a magnetic field going up, as in the video, the motion of the particle should be out of the screen, or toward you, just as in the video. You may have been confused because the right hand rule applies to electron current which is negative, and thus would point in the opposite direction just as you said, but since this is a positive charge, the force vector would be equal and opposite
Why is T=2.pi.r/v and not T=2.pi.r/2v ? since, the p.d. is alternated once the particle travels half the circumference ? Maybe I'm being ignorant/foolish. please point out.
I know the reason of the motion positive partical is magnetic feild but we all know every charge partical create magnetic feild around them so what happens with the dees D magnetic feild because the magnetic feild of dees D something effect in this so give me a very clear and understood video I shall be thankful for this please please......
Why wouldn't the proton strike the Dee when it enters it? The whole reason particle accelerators are housed in vacuums is so the accelerated particle doesn't inadvertently strike an atom.
first of all he told about accelerating a proton which is not possible as its mass is very very small i.e negligible and then i didnt understood how does its velocity increases as v=d/t and both distance and time are constant here !!!!!!!! please help me
First of this is not a cyclotron it is a syncrotron ie the magnetic field is incresing with proportion to the increase of mass of proton(heavy particle)... now in case of an electron, the mass increases soo rapidly due to the speed that it is impossible to increase the magnetic field with some speed hence a proton or an alpha particle is used N welcome :D
If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if the proton goes into the 'Dees,' right? I am not sure, because it's hard to find absolute information online, but the 'Dees' are open inside. I would imagine that as the protons are emitted by the source, most end up impacting the 'Dee' material and terminating, but others on the right trajectory stay parallel to the material and make it to the end where they exit through the deflector.
It's like Mufasa is teaching me science.
I strongly recommend for a student who is trying to understand the concept of Cyclotrons.
Thanks alot

Dees Nuts
+Thomas Maclean i saw this straight after "they're also known as dees, as they are in the shape of a D"
+danthebox Yeah man, you got it champ! #youwintheinternettoday #Ihatemylife #lol
I was feeling smart, I read this comment. My IQ dropped to-10
Thisis the bestt video for this topic. period.
Just needed to know the components and working. Very confusing in the book. After watching this... I got it! :D thnx
What book?

excellent video, however the magnetic field should be in the opposite direction for a positive ion to spiral in that path
That's exactly what I think
very nice and very easy to understand the concept. thnx.

I think he is not move
my dad fixes these.
Alex Wilkinson Really??
Damn bruh.
Extermely vivid and elaborate explanation to simplify the content

Excellent demonstration... I like it..
a) the plates are metallic..
b)when the charge emerges out of the negatively charged plate and if the polarity didn't switch, it will again be attracted towards the same negatively charged plate..

thanks. clear and easy to understand
Is the cyclotron used in Large Hadron Collider for accelerating particles?
Yo thank you very much. This really helped my physics homework
Was very helpful ^_^ Nicely explained.
Thanks a lot man you cleared the concepts
Good Work
It helped me during my exams........
how is the proton going to that direction....?
i know the magnetic feild is the reason of posative partical motion but what happend with the dees D magnetic feild we know that every electric plate or wire create magnetic feild so what happend with D magnetic feild please explain this
excellently explaind
how do you calculate the acceleration of the proton as it rotates?
Very interesting and informative video.
i know the magnetic feild is the reason of posative partical motion but what happend with the dees D magnetic feild we know that every electric plate or wire create magnetic feild so what happend with D magnetic feild please explain this and give us very explainful vidio

can u xplain y the particle inside the cyclotron dosent collide with the dees while entering it
+aninda chatterjee The magnetic field could be tweaked to keep the proton in a specific spot.
Thank you so much sir.. :) that was really helpful for me.. :)
Great video, benifitting

Awesome voice
Very good video.
thnk u. excellent video.
I was confused but now I have got the concept........................ thanks
yeah its easy but I wasnt able to understand by the professor who taught me this :P
nice very very helpful
Thanks, it's really helpful :)

Good stuff!
The voice scared the shit out of me
That's awesome & thnxx
very good videos
that is very awesome ....
Hahaha Mufasa is teaching us!
in scholl it took more than an hour to teach, bt over here I understood in 4 mins 38 secs.
excellent representation
it's perfect video!
WHY WE ACCELERATE PROTON IN CYCLOTRON WHY CAN'T WE ACCELERATE ELECTRON
very clear thanks
There is just a BIG mistake !! The sense of rotation !!!
Nice Video!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!! now i'm gonna top in the classtest
nice to learn frm dis :)
i think proton should move in clock wise direction but in this vedio it is moving in anti clock wise direction
very good one

Actually very useful
why does the voice sound so robotic?
good ..nature of proton
Thanks you mister!!!
well explained!
Thanks a lot
Thank you
thanks for this video, sir
mu all doubts r cleared
Nice 1
hey richard, you are getting confused not mtz08
yeah it will b accelerated to a very high magnitude...............tooo much to handle..
That voice tho
thank you
thanks a lot
