I'm reluctant to be "that" person, but I was in the 5th grade, my whole family were Mad Max (1) and Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior nuts when Beyond Thunderdome was released in theaters. I have two brothers, 5 years older and 9 years older. This is the first movie I had ever seen in a movie theater (my folks only took us to drive-ins), AND the first time she let my eldest take us on our own somewhere. So, yeah. I can say, "I was THERE, MAN!" There being the State Theaters, 6990 65th Street, Sacramento, CA. (I Google Mapped the location, it's not a theater anymore.) But the whole experience had me fit to burst.

Yesterday Tina Turner passed away. Somewhat coincidental that I was recently discussing with someone what I think are the greatest movie intros of all time and this was at the top of the list.
Although many would disagree, “Beyond Thunderdome” will always be my personal favorite of the Mad Max films, and she really made it what it is, not only with her screen presence but the soundtrack.
Interestingly someone in the RUclips comments for this video remarked “just think of how cool it would have been to watch this intro in the theater when the film came out”. This person obviously “gets it”, and the ironic thing is the opening is just a black screen and the credits rolling with her singing. It’s hard to grasp how larger than life things were in the 80’s, and she’s one example of that.

Came here for Tina, but also for my love of the Mad Max movies. I was around 10 when Beyond Thunderdome came out and having seen and loved The Road Warrior and Mad Max, I was stoked for Thunderdome, to say the least. My father wasn't the kind of dad that did a whole lot with his children, but I did manage to get him to take me to the theater to see this one a few weekends after the opening. I don't remember his reaction to this intro, but I sure as hell remember mine and its a feeling I haven't forgotten to this day. Thanks to whoever put this up! I have watched it many times just for the intense feeling of nostalgia I get and memories of my youth. It's such a simple opening scene as far as graphics and headers go, which is very much what I like in opening credit scenes. See the Coen Brothers opening for "No Country for Old Men" or even John Carpenter's "The Thing" (after the spaceship crash opening) for similar openings. Thunderdome is different because of the epic music by Tina Turner and it wouldn't have been the same without her. Bravo, Tina! Long live Mad Max!

Can you believe, they've now done all her 80s albums from Private Dancer on in some form of deluxe, and released a 3 disc boxed set and still none of the monkeys that clearly people record exec positions have gotten it right. That has to be one of the Greatest and most exciting opening scenes in all of movie history (I remember watching it on HBO back in late 85 and feeling FUCKING PUMPED AND PSYCHED OUT OF MY MIND, all in exhilarated anticipation for the cinematic story that was set to unfold, this story that, although it didn't quite measure up to this mesmerizing, euphoric inducing and amazing opening, didn't disappoint, as it did entertain, and thrill)!
It was also this movie that was the final warm up for Mel Gibson, right before his already notable and promising career was catapulted high into the iridescent stratosphere of legendary and iconic greatness, all with his excellent and superb depiction of that unstable, on the edge YET utterly bad ass L.A.P.D. detective Martin Riggs, in that pioneering, hilarious and buddy/cop gem, ""Lethal Weapon (one of my all time favorite movies, as I found it spectacular and original, and whose comedic elements and dry wit drove the movie almost as much as the action, suspense and great acting did).""
Mel pulled that role off to perfection, as that role and movie launched him even higher (and pulled him deeper and more firmly into the Hollywood firmament, something that he capitalized upon brilliantly)!
Any ways, what an opening scene, awesome and unforgettable in its exhilarating effect!

Wish I was an 80s child. Instead, I'm 21 now and grew up sheltered. I finally saw it the other day, and Blade Runner a little before that. Love those two franchises. That decade offered so much to the television industry

I have been looking for this version of this song for over 26 years. I was very disapointed when it wasn't on the soundtrack in this version. I always thought that someone, somewhere, someday would release this "up-tempo version of "One of the Living" because it really rocks! Alas, this I guess will always be my wish

@@Paul_1971 This was recorded specifically for the intro and was edited from the demo. A full version was made for soundtrack release but was done differently to avoid licensing issues since the soundtrack version is a different license than the movie one. This enabled her to release it on an album later.

0:15 onwards is pure 80s awesomeness. Sure I prefer the logo of the original and it's just words on a black screen, but the Tina Turner song "One of the Living" does get me pumped. And yes, it blows that this version of the song never got released. The one we've got is fine, but compared to this... OMG, I love that song. Sometimes, I imagine if I was in the world of Mad Max, I would listen to this while driving through the wasteland.

"One of the Living" is far more fitting in the Mad Max universe than "We Don't Need Another Hero", easily.
BTW, this movie was my introduction to Tina Turner, and I admired her so much that I ended up naming one of my cats after her. That's why "Beyond Thunderdome" will always be a kind of special movie to me.

Thanks for putting this up. I was gonna myself had I not found it. I may still clean up the 'song' by fading out the end of the track I have.
It's a totally bad-ass tune. That it's so short is shameful. Actually, that this version has never been released is the shameful fact. I guess I'm glad to have heard any of it at all ever. The album version doesn't hold a candle.
I have to listen to this repeatedly in order to quench the thirst I feel when it's overtaken by the blowing desert winds.

One of the biggest love hates for me, Tina was really damn good in this movie and the first half especially was solid, once it turned into hook in the 2nd half it loses all that made Road Warrior one of the best movies ever made, really glad we got fury road after this so thunderdome wasn't the last one
