Geddy and Alex were more to Neil than just bandmates, and even more than just friends. They were his protectors. His whole life, they stood between Neil and the general public, which was a huge relief for such a private person. When tragedy struck, Geddy and Alex waited patiently until their friend came back to them. And when Neil was diagnosed, Geddy and Alex shut down the band in a graceful manner, without ever revealing the truth. They took all the questions, interviews, and all the heat as to why the band ended. What a beautiful friendship...

I think they were great for their first 8 albums, and then got super bland.
The R40 Tour was great though; the second set after intermission was sort of like a combination of "Exit Stage Left" and "All The World's A Stage".
The trajectory of their musical evolution from their inception through to the early 80s was a progression from a fairly straightforward and not particularly complex - though _really_ good - bluesy hard rock/proto-metal sound to an increasingly complex mix of hard rock with proggy elements that eventually blossomed into an incredibly unique sound.
Unfortunately, in my opinion at least, whatever their motivations or lack thereof were, after "Moving Pictures" their sound changed radically and for the worse, becoming a very typically 80s overproduced synth dominated band.

Rush is a band that never gave me the sense that they were untouchable superstars who were so much better than we mortals. There was an actual sense that these were people who might just show up at your backyard bbq and sit down and have a beer with you and talk about their lives and their music and whatnot. They had stopped full-scale touring before the Filoblastoma diagnosis, but after Neil Peart’s arthritis and tendinitis made him have to stop. When Alex Lifeson announced in 2018 that Rush was done, it was most likely after the diagnosis, and by the time that this interview took place, Geddy Lee could speak with after-knowledge of the full extent of the challenges facing his band-mate. Until 2018, there was the implied hope that stand-alone concerts would still be possible.
Geddy Lee clearly knew something here that the rest of us didn’t until this last week.
I have no doubt that they were informed of his passing on the same day, and kept quiet to help the family grieve and prepare for the onslaught.

Thank you Lord and to God be the glory for ever gracing this ungrateful planet for bringing together three of the most incredible, most talented, and most humble musical geniuses this world has ever seen. This is why RUSH has survived all these years because their devoted fans ( in which we are legions upon legions ) have always recognized their depth of cerebral talent and always recognized it and remained loyal when labels and promoters knew they would only be a passing flash in the pan and curiosity. There are few bands that have enjoyed a success such as RUSH without all the hype and promotion. This was always about the relationship RUSH enjoyed with their fans - and their fans enjoyed with them. We love them - and they know why. They were always more than a class act - and we knew it! Alex, Geddy , Neil. Enjoy the rest of your lives and what God has blessed you with - you have earned it. Thank you for all the great music and the "Sweet Memories" you gave us when we heard it. • @dancampbell9151
      @dancampbell9151 5 лет назад +2

@@BradleyDavee I have been a dyed-in-the-wool - hard core RUSH fan every since I heard the first opening intro of 2112. In all those years, and all the great music these guys have put out - along with what I believe (and hope) is a good understanding of the Bible and prophecy that I have spent just about as much time in study and research into as well as religion, history and theology - I don't recall seeing anything like what you are referring to. The only thing that strikes me as occultic as you say - would be the album cover of 2112 itself. Innuendo is across the entire spectrum of entertainment; but RUSH has never made religion a focal point in their music. I can only think of one song that you could even come close to as calling a love song in their entire repertoire. They are story tellers. Philosophy, science fiction, fantasy, and a little on social issues - but even that is guarded. This band will always be my favorite band of all time and I could only give a million more reasons why they are. One of the first being: "What is their message?" I have always found it positive. Not a whole lot of that around anymore. I don't know if you know this or not, but Geddy Lee's parents fled to Canada to escape the Holocaust. Somehow I don't think this was ever lost on the Lee's household or home or Geddy as he was growing up, and I have no doubt that any lyrics that Neil Peart may have come with over all those years would not have been seen through that filter of Geddy Lee. I have no doubt both Alex and Neil would have have been very sensitive to that and religion would hit too many nerves and should be left alone. I have never saw that in them - and just another reason I admire and appreciate every single one of them. This is a tight, professional, considerate, talented band. First to each other as friends - and then to us the people they hoped would appreciate their music. We do - and that is why they have enjoyed what they have enjoyed. It is not lost them - believe me. They do. To me - this best sums up RUSH's philosophy on religion - which is just another example of the genius of Neil Peart and just how deep he is - along with his fellow band members. From the song "Freewill" - "If you choose not to decide - you still have made a choice." God bless

From age 6-106, all Rush fans are members in musics greatest secret and yet not so secret society. Even though they are gone, the body of work remains and the legions of fans around the globe speak for themselves, and it's up to us as fans to ensure that the spirit of Rush carries on for years. So when you see someone on the street with a Rush shirt, say something. Continue to Have those conversations we've all had with our Rush brothers and sisters. How many times did you see them live? Which tours did you see? What songs hold special meaning to you? What was the first song of theirs that you heard? That's how we deal with missing something we love, is remembering and sharing why it is we love them with people who understand it the same way. And for the record, 1) 8 times 2) 2 on the snakes and arrows tour, 1 on the time machine tour, 2 on clockwork angels, and 3 on R40, 3) the pass, nobody's hero, & losing it, and 4) the spirit of radio :)

This has been and still is my absolute favorite band. I grew up listening to this band. Moving Pictures tour was my very first concert as well I was able to take my 8-year-old son to R30. I was also able to take my best friend (who passed) to the Time Machine tour and sit front row center at Red Rocks. It was a moment that he never forgot. Thanks to a fantastic threesome that will forever be my favorite!!

Rush’s work or musical miracles, however you say it, are eternal. There will never be another Rush simply because every piece to them was so totally unique that it would be very hard to duplicate. Wonders of the world: Pyramids, Grand Canyon, Rush. RIP PROFESSOR

Geddy reflective and soulful, not letting on, the promise he made hurting him all that time. Life aint fair. I love all their music, mixed up as it has to be in all the other influences, and they did it for us - so grateful. ty.

You have good taste ... Power Windows is probably my favorite album overall. The songwriting and music are just perfection. Territories, Middletown Dreams, Manhattan Project ... all awesome. Here in Detroit, I heard seven of the eight songs off that album receive airtime on the radio.

Thank you Geddy and Alex and also Neil ( RIP) for blowing me away with the most powerful music that you created for over 40 years.
As a huge Rush fan, it is sad that it has come to this point. That one superstar band member is no longer here. And it breaks my heart!
But now I have learned to balance it out with knowing as a fan that I am grateful for being a part of your journey as a band!
And I pray that God will bless you with great health and wellness.🙏

Geddy ,you did a great job on holding it together when you knew.... everyone I think thought it was arthritis and or tendinitis. I believe no one saw this one coming. Geddy and Alex, I`m sorry you lost a very dear friend and family member........

It was arthritis and tendonitis and having a 5 year old daughter at home and not wanting to mess her up.
Please read Neil's last book. He makes this terribly clear.

Outstanding three piece band comprised of three outstanding, down to earth, but extremely intelligent human beings.
Would love to thank them for all they've given us, so I purchase their music (as I do all music I obtain).....no cheating....no rip off.....no $#!t.
That's the best way to thank them, I think...
I can't believe I never saw them in concert. Saw Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and a slew of others.....but not Rush.....$#!t....

Geddy, Alex, and Neil are the sweetest three men in Rock-n-Roll ! I’ve been listening to RUSH since 1977 and have seen them 12 times in Detroit throughout their career. There is no better live band and I’ve seen everyone, I’m from the home of Rock-n-Roll ! There is no better Rock-n-Roll audience in the world ! I’m sure if Geddy and Alex this post they might agree ? RUSH’S music guided me through some pretty heavy shit in life ! I don’t think I’d where I am today without their music !! I miss Neil so much ! His beautiful drumming and attention to detail was absolutely amazing ! A true perfectionist at everything he did in life ! Just a wonderful man ! All three of them are just incredible human beings! I love you guys ! I miss RUSH so much !
