Is It Possible To Beat Kirby Super Star's Arena With Only A CPU Helper?

Kirby Super Star remains one of the best games in the series, but after playing it a ridiculous amount over the years, I'm utterly fed up with it and can't bear the thought of doing so anymore. But even the most well-worn games can be given a new lease of life if you approach them from a new angle...
Perhaps Super Star's best feature is the ability to create helpers to join Kirby on his adventures and also enable a second player to take part in the fun. But if you lack a spare controller, fear not - the helpers will then be controlled by a CPU ally. Loneiness isn't a requirement this time.
Don't get too excited, however. I would say the CPU A.I is dumber than a box of rocks, but that would be an insult to the rocks. You will quickly regret wasting Kirby's precious abilities to create them after the tenth time they get themselves killed without contributing anything of value to the war effort.
And it got me wondering: Exactly how far can these helpers go without Kirby attacking any of the foes they encounter and leaving all the work to them instead? Is it possible to beat the arena, the toughest mode in Super Star, with only a CPU helper?
The rules are as follows:
- The first golden rule that must never be broken is that Kirby must never attack most enemies or bosses, it must be left to the CPU helpers. Heart of Nova is the only boss that Kirby is allowed to attack.
- The second golden rule: The helper must be controlled by the CPU at all times and never a player.
- Kirby can turn a helper into an item then use it to bring them back with full life, essentially giving them infinite health if used without restriction and making the challenge not very challenging.
There are three options, depending on how difficult the player wants the challenge to be:
1. Only use this trick between rounds as a way to heal.
2. Set a limit to how often it can be used through the entire run.
3. Not use the trick at all and only heal helpers with Maxim Tomatos.
- During battles, Kirby is not allowed to heal helpers or create new ones if die/start to die with the use of his own abilities. The only way the helpers may restore health is if they touch an enemy with an ability while dying and absorb it or if T.A.C uses his copy powers to absorb one.
- All types of helpers are allowed to be used.

As someone who thinks this looks like a cool idea for Star Allies, I can already see a lot of similar issues emerging, but hey, ever since all the dream friends came around the regular allies have been neglected by me, so they deserve a chance to shine in the pit.
Plus now you can have 3 so maybe quantity can beat quality
It is possible, I had a team of Stone, Magolor, the sisters, and a Chef. I turned into stone and let them deal most of the damage to the final boss. I assume only the first and third stages would be impossible due to a problem like Heart of Nova.

I’ve been doing one ally per run, stone in the corner, basically “coaching” the allies as I focus on literally anything else for the most part and then running into the fray whenever I want to revive the ally. On paper, any ally could make it to the end given time, but some are so bad at their jobs that I... pull the Plugg.

I wonder if Super Star Ultra on the DS improves the Helper AI?

I can't imagine how hard this would be in KSSU's True Arena.
...Well, actually it'd technically be impossible, since a CPU helper can't help Kirby against Kabula.

I love to see my bot Gim doing well! One of my favorite abilities/partners. It's definitely interesting how much better the AI seems with some characters than with others.

I'll be honest: Fatty Whale is a pain in the ass even without this challenge so it's no wonder he was a pain in a challenge like this.
Fatty whale is actually the easiest boss in the game. He can be defeated solely by guarding
Sometimes, the 2nd Player gets all the fun!
In any game where there is a possibility to play as any character other than the main, I have this urge to want play that other character, even if they’re just aesthetically different. Whenever Player 2 has the exclusive privilege to play as a whole separate character, it frustrates the h&ll outta me! I can only play the main as Player 1 and I have no one to be Player 1 so I can be Player 2.
Kirby Superstar is one of those examples and the most recent game I’m playing, Cave Story+ for Nintendo Switch, fits the same bill!

Old-School Quote/Curly, Quote Alts, Curly, Curly Alts, King, Toroko, Sue, that old dude, A Killer Robot, and Evil Naked Curly

I think I actually tried this once when I was a kid. It helped me get really good at dodging the bosses' attacks, as I didn't use the Stone ability to remain invulnerable the whole time. Never got past Fatty Whale without taking control of the helper with the Player 2 controller though.

Wait, if I recall correctly, Kirby Super Star Ultra had a game mode where you would only be able to control the helper, like, instead of playing as kirby, you would play as a helper, could be interesting to see who is the best at dealing with the bosses, I would say either Bonkers, T.A.C. or Burning Leo (When using the fire attack, if you press the direction of the character, the user will catch on fire, it doesn't hurt you, but it deals a lot of damage to the enemies)
The mode is called helper to hero, and the answer is probably bonkers. If you know the strats you can melt any boss in seconds with hammer. For example, you can beat Dedede, wham bam rock, kracko, and fatty whale in under 8 seconds. Bosses like meta knight go down in 16 seconds, etc. Etc. Hammer is completely busted if you know what you’re doing.
Man this is such a cool challenge! I’ve always sort of wondered it myself but never got the chance to try it. I never knew that Tac had so much power though...

I feel like the AI gets super smart for some battle, but then the game realizes, wait this is too smart, and dumbs it down.

You should do a collaboration with Mitten Squad, a youtuber who does similar videos, exept for more recent games, most notably, the "Fallout" series.
That first part with Kracko made me remember how much I hate him has a boss. It doesn’t matter what game it is, I always dread fighting him.
Also it’s nice to see Gim be one of the best helpers AI Wise, as he and Birdon are my favorite helpers from this game.

Fun fact: there is an ability that kills Kirby well it is the screen( in the copy ability screen ) that appears when Kirby dies and apparently can be selected when you stuck in two enemies
I think your win over the Halberd Reactor should count. I mean, the helper did push Kirby into position, and then Kirby remained doing nothing for the rest of the round. So, it's mainly just Fatty Whale that's the biggest hurdle here.

His disjointed attacks and invincible dash attack makes him avoid damage better than others.

This entire video is management jobs in a nutshell.
I have not played Super Star and dont know what the moves for yo-yo are, but here is my idea as to what is making it so good.
The spin attack move is activated by pressing up and attacking, (or maybe jumping) which also makes it invincible. This habit of the AI makes it activate its useful attack more often.
That’s my only theory with no other knowledge
The reason why i was so hesistant to understand that TAC had one of the best damages in the game in your other video was exactly because the AI is so EFFING DUMB lol

The DS version (Super Star Ultra) has Helper To Hero; a variant of the Arena where you play as a Helper instead of Kirby. You can play as TAC there.
The AI be like: hmmmmm i gonna run into literally everything and eventually kill the enemy.

What I learned today: Kirby Super Star's Helper AI is incredibly stupid yet incredibly powerful. (TAC is OP if he was just a little smarter. Like, you know, aim the right direction.)
