Having several lights at the same time you might forget which is a, b, and c etc. so it’s sometimes easy to check what light power you are controlling by turning on and off the modeling light.

Excellent point… and one I had not really thought of. And with several more channels and groups with the connect pro all the more relevant.

I lable my flashes so that I can see the letters. usually use the same lights for same purpose, ie, main fill , etc.

Good job guys, not at all a rant, personable and to the point. I remember years ago, when a Profoto factory rep came to my studio in Stockholm exited to show me some new gear. They have come a long way and of course true to the Swedish quality tradition.

Just picked mine up, can’t wait to play with it.
For the most part, my two biggest uses for modeling light is for focusing in extremely dark conditions, as well as making small adjustments without firing the flash in more complex or directional strobe environments. It’s much more important when you’re trying use the strobe to shape the light and control how that light falls on the subject versus trying to add additional light to a scene, overpower ambient, or freeze motion.

Thank you for giving us your first impressions of the A2! I assume the modeling light is designed to be just a modeling light and not a video light. One way the modeling light can be used is to give enough constant light so your camera can focus in a dark environment.

Great review and love this light. I can see myself getting one and using it daily. But it is a copy of the godox ad100, the major problems os the colour shifts that doesn't match my profoto lights and also the trigger doesn't always trigger the flash. Keep up the great work

We were on outdoor shoot one day and our model came in late. We were supposed to shoot sunset for golden hour. Since the model was late, we ended up shooting at blue hour- still not bad.
We were using Nikon SB’s back then about 3 of them on Lumiquest softbox. Just about we were getting really good shots our camera started hunting focus. The focus assist light is not working well with our model who is posing together with a horse. The horse too did not like it, we had to stop everytime the horse reacts to the focus assist light.
Since our SB’s did not have a modelling light, we had to improvise - one of our photographer thought of using the head light of his car pointing a little sideways just to help with focusing our cameras.
We were lucky we were close to a beach parking lot!
If we hada modelling light from the beginning of the shoot,we could have save time, stress and we may have a lot of keepers!
I almost forgot, the shoot was backlit so definitely a very challenging situation where a modelling light will be useful addon.

The modeling light can help your camera focus in low light.

Pricey for $1,000 when a Flashpoint V1 for $259 (built-in controller too) with the same round Bowens adapter for assorted diffusers can accomplish the same with additional money left to buy two more for great lighting.

I agree, I have a AD600Pro, AD400Pro and 2 AD200’s. On a shoot in Cabos a AD200 fell about 6ft to the ground. No external damage but the switch stopped working. Definitely slowed the shoot up. Plan a ordering this A2 and the new Leica trigger. Start from there and see if the workflow is more robust and/or has more pop in my images.

you will never be able to produce nice light like profoto and its always constant without issues and so easy to use and reliable. I used cheap lights in the past that are simply not reliable in live event . so the A2 A10 or B10 plus seats in another category on its own but cheap light is a good start but in the long run if you get better you will up your game with profoto

    • @WilliamStewartPhotography
      @WilliamStewartPhotography Год назад

It’s a bit shortsighted to say one can never produce “nice light” like profoto. I use elinchrom and Godox as do many other pro photogs and they produce “nice light” and are reliable in any live event be it weddings, corporate events, or portrait shoots. These are certainly nice lights but they’re not the only lighting system to produce “nice light”…

You don't use the modelling light at an event to see where you're pointing the flash? Since I hand hold the flash (Actually a Godox V1, not a Profoto) it can be hard to direct the flash while framing at the same time, the light is really handy to make sure it's actually pointing at the subject otherwise I can end up with it highly off centred and you get a big vignette.
Also good for seeing where the shadows are cast etc. The light isn't perfectly accurate, no, but it's necessary to make sure it's pointing in the right direction during a busy event. It's also not bright enough when in a softbox.

Great review guys. Thank you. Wondered if you could answer a question for me please? The Profoto Connect Pro trigger - does it have any ports for cables? I shoot with a Hasselblad 907x, it has no hot shoe so need to sync to trigger with a cable 🥲

Nice review.. My 2 concerns with this light is the flash power. I saw another reviewer say that it didn't have anymore output power than his A1 or A10?? And also the magnet holding it onto the back of one of those soft boxes, I feel if you're not really careful it could get knocked off?

I give up once I hear they say it’s a pro tool based on the look. When Godox offers twice power at 1/4 the price, it takes an idiot to continue support Profoto. Also the company is a shame when there is serious design issue with its B2 and yet they didn’t do a recall.
