Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

I used drugs alot (still do but on special occasions) and came out fine, got a degree and run a car business but yeah, most people lack self control and are not like me and end up like this. Its not the drugs, its the people. Don't get into drugs if you're an average person

My friends parent is stuck here. They haven’t seen them in years. Just living off the streets of Kensington. Hell on earth. I wish I could help them reconnect but I don’t even know how without opening immense trauma for them. Those were people. Now zombies. So sad to me. Not just their story but what it does to those around them and the community. There is no community around drugs, just pain. Crazy to see so much pain in one place as if it’s a functional part of society.

it is called drug addiction not something that anyone has a choice with at this point. Escaping from reality as you say was the initial reason now it is so they won't crave or withdraw.
Smh i ask myself why is it so easy and tantalizing to mess up and do the wrong thing. Its all around us. This is not the way to live. Living in a world where theres easier access to bad things than to something as necessary as food,is beyond evil. And we can thank "politics" for this. The bible says it all.

This is disgusting! bring in the National Guard and clean up these streets.
They sent national guard in San Francisco and they did absolutely nothing. They were just posing on the streets, fentanyl dealers and addicts moved to alleyways, and when the national guard was gone, everything and everyone was back to the previous places.

Please pray for these people. So many people are struggling to make a half way decent life for themselves. Sometimes, as the narrator stated, it only takes one unexpected expense or loss of job to push people into the brink of despair, especially if they have no support network.
Not everyone actively chooses to experiment with drugs when they have life chances worth pursuing. Some had very little chance to make it to begin with, and these people need sympathy not scorn or derision. If you are born into family struggling to make ends meet, who take drugs, don't provide a good moral code, a good work ethic, instil a sense of pride in their children to do well, it is so very easy for offspring to copy that pattern and spiral downward and believe they have nothing to hope for and nothing to offer and guess what, there are many who won't give them a chance to prove otherwise -reinforcing these beliefs. That's why they start to take drugs - as a form of escapism to blot out the pain and emptiness of a wasted life - and a short one at that for many who overdose.
No one deserves to live like this. It is existing, nothing more.
These people need the hope of Jesus Christ in their lives.

The issues are not so simple.
There's family issues, mental issues, society issues, crime issues, prison issues, housing issues, job issues, money issues. It isn't right to just pick out one thing. You can't just wake up on the sidewalk one day and get a job and pay for an apartment. You need health care and dental care and a shower and a toilet, at least. There's greedy people, corporate rule, and a reckless uncaring govt. In large part, it is a result of people only caring about money, only caring to profit, only caring for riches. A society cannot last in that way.

What a depressing neighborhood. There are a lot of homeless people and drug addicts. And instead of treating and socializing these citizens, the state encourages drug use by providing free doses and syringes. This is degradation.
Show me at least one city in Russia where there are as many drug addicts and homeless.

I think the cities idea is to keep it contained somewhat...similier to skid row in LA..have a place where transients and addicts can stay/live without spreading out contaminating the other parts of the city.
