- This is a very common Cascadia fault code SPN 111 FMI 1 and SPN 111 FMI 18, coolant level low and to how to repair it yourself and get back on the road.
This will probably take about 1-2 hours from start to finish, you can buy the coolant level sensor and the replacement pigtail (kit) at your local Freightliner.
It is a good idea to replace both the coolant level sensor and the pigtail.
Here is a list of some of the tools you might need:
Channel locks
15/16 wrench or crescent wrench
Wire Stripper Crimper
Funnel
Container to collect the coolant that you remove
Here are you the parts you will need:
Coolant level sensor

Really appreciate your videos, you do a great job of explaining everything, thanks so much
Thanks for the info
Thanks you. This is a great video.
Awesome and helpful make more videos Anwar🤟🤟🤟🤟
I already changed my level sensor 5 times. Keeps going out. I even put all New coolant i can't figure why it keeps failing. Going to change pig tail, never crossed my mind to do so before. Thanks.
Gracias por tu vídeo, me quitó de problemas,
Bababababa I’m loving it!!
Thanks 🙏 a lot for the video bro really good description on the video
Yep, sensor was bad, pigtail was good, used a vinyl hose to siphon 2 gallon of coolant out of the reservoir. $62 at the dealership. 10 min job after troubleshooting.5 min job if I would have bought a bigger siphon hose… truck symptoms were ,of course, Dashcode Eng 0 111 fail 1, engine stop light and safety shutdown, and check engine light. No visible leaks of coolant, coolant to proper level, unplugged sensor and engine shutdown and stop light went off, replaced sensor, refilled reservoir and all codes and dash lights are no longer lit up. Thanks. $62 job and a reason to ride the motorcycle to the dealership.
Thank you
Best video, 👍
Thank you
You could do that without music playing, good informational video 👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You did a good vedio Pedro keep up the good work 👍👍
Thank you. Sensor will cost about $60-75 from Freightliner. Not sure if they make it aftermarket
Muchas gracias por la información y el video, tengo una pregunta. La falla de este sensor me podria regular el motor y no dejar que tenga las revoluciones normales?
I have a cascading 2012 sensor showing 90% but the check engine light is on. ECU 0 fault code 2 Cab 33
I got the same code on 2016 Cascadia. SPN 111 FMI 1. Coolant level looks fine, shoul I replace the sensor and harness as you did ? I had one Mechanic (probably not a good one) while I was on the road and he said the voltage in the harness wasn’t continuous & it’s fluctuating. Any recommendations?
I recommend both sensor and harness. Inexpensive and easy to change. Best place to start.
I just pull the sensor might spill less then a cup if cap is still on and you're quick. But you're way is probably more professional lol
More than one way for sure. I’ll have to try that
I agree, it's a 5-minute job.
muy bien
Thanks for the video pedro what engine do u think is better Detroit or Cummings ?
Detroit parts are more easily available and less expensive than Cummins. I personally prefer Detroit engines, most engines that I have come across have easily reached 1,000,000 miles and climbing.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thanks Pedro if u had to choose between a peterbilt or freighliner which one would u choose ?
@@CarlosDieselElectric how u doing Pedro do u think the Coronado is easy to work on compare to the cascadia ?
@@marcoslugo5542 they are very similar, I like the Coronado, has more room and the engine is more accessible.
Are you looking to buy a Coronado?
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank u Pedro and yeah later on i just wanted to ask a mechanic what’s a better choice
A ke buen video
Gracias
How much this work / the way u doing/ just have idea of some repairs I probably going to get truck near future but I like to get know cost of repairs/ give light on costs for this repair
This is just one way of removing the coolant. If you wanted to you could just remove the coolant level sensor by itself and then quickly install the new sensor. It makes a mess but it can be done.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can you make a video of how to adjust the gearlash on the gear
Sure, I should have another DD15 coming in soon.
@@CarlosDieselElectric nice
Small suggestion to reduce the music volume when you are talking to NONE! Having it play while doing the under hood stuff yeah, but doing the voice over doesn’t need the distraction.
Appreciate the suggestion. I’ll try doing that 👍🏼
hey pedro i own a freightliner where can i purchase a computer with the program to diagnose the codes
The program is from Detroit. You can purchase it from Nexiq. There are two levels for subscription, standard and Professional. The laptop was purchased Best Buy. Just need to make sure the laptop can handle the DDDL software.
I got
ECU 128 PID 111 fault 2
On freight liner Columbia ... plz help , is it the sensor or the wire harness
I would replace both the sensor and the plug at the same time. That should take care of the issue.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you much brother
Mine says coolant level circuit 111 fmi4. Is that the sensor?
It is most likely coolant related. I would recommend sensor and the small harness or plug if possible.
Wassup bro I wanted to see if you had any issues with code ECU 1 SPN 1077 fmi 14
1077 fmi 17 is fuel related if I am not mistaken. This can be tricky.
What is the truck doing?
It loses power like loses fuel pressure somehow
I had same code and just went ahead and replaced the whole reservoir with new sensor attached but the code still comes back off and on .. Could it be the plug instead ? I wiggle the plug and th check engine light goes off ..
I always replace both the sensor and the plug at the same time.
@@CarlosDieselElectric Well if replaced the resevoir doesn't it come with a new sensor attached already ?
@@Hearmeout503 Correct, it does come with. I recommend also replacing the pigtail.
@@CarlosDieselElectric Thx
Hi can you please tell me how do I get software
The Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link software can be purchased directly through diagnosticlink.nexiq.com
This is exactly where I purchased mine from.
I like the video but loose the music in the background
I thought it would fill in the blanks, maybe ill lower it or change it.
Appreciate the feed back.
👍
How cone nome of you guys say the year of the truth your working on
Good point. I’ll start doing that.
Replacing a pigtail without knowing it's operational condition is not doing it right. You added two additional failure points. Re-Terminating is best option if the end is bad
I did test, just can’t fit all that in a 60 second short. Appreciate the feedback
Hey bro I have that same code but it says ecu1 spn 111 fmi 19 any help it’s a 2012 cascadia
Let me look it up when I get into work. Give me a few hours.
Coolant level low, could be the sensor or the pigtail.
If the coolant level is good, more then likely the sensor is acting up or the pigtail (plug) could be bad. I usually replace them both.
Thanks a lot bro ima check ima replace them asap
Hey bro so I just replaced the sensor and pigtail and code is still there do I need to get the code cleared of it should have automatically gone away ?
@@angelangeles6183 try using your software. But if you still have the light. You need to track the wires. You may have a ground or wire that is shorting
This is obviously an older cascadia i have the same code constantly on and off on my 2019 cascadia but it’s not the harness or the sensor…it may be the computer malfunctioning im getting constant voltage at my plug and my sensor ohms out perfectly this is a never ending problem
This may have definitely changed. The years I see are between 2009-2017.
I believe 2018 is where you have the change
@@CarlosDieselElectric yea what I noticed mostly is that you no longer have to drain the coolant to remove the sensor whole different setup…but this low coolant light is a nonstop issue
Good video but annoying background music is not necessary though
Thank you, appreciate the feedback.
The truck cut off and won’t start
You will most likely need to find someone that can try and connect to the truck using the DDDL software. It sounds like there is no communication. Possibly the MCM or CPC
Stupid music can’t hear anything
