Norma Trujillo Walks Again with Above-Knee Prostheses After a Tragic Accident

Norma and her husband have always put their family at the top of their priority list. When the mom-of-three lost both her legs above-the-knee after a tragic accident, she decided to turn her fight to walk again into a story of inspiration for her children. As she adjusted to life as a bilateral above-knee amputee, she drew strength from her family as she learned to navigate life in a wheelchair.
Then she met prosthetist Sarah Don, CPO at Hanger Clinic. In October 2017, she got her first set of stubbies. Shortly after, she began her journey to walking on her own with above-knee prostheses.
With her newfound mobility, she drives her children to sports practices, rides bikes with them, and walks on soccer fields to support them. She’s already ticked the boxes on many of her aspirations-standing, walking, driving, and cycling. Now she has her sights set on running. Norma is thankful for the support from her family, and the clinicians and peers at Hanger Clinic and in her community.
