First time I ever heard this guy play was as a backing musician, and I had no idea who he was, but could tell right away he was something special. Superb musician.
Silas Neale your very welcome, I will admit the motives were of a personal and selfish nature (I wanted to capture it so I could watch it countless times myself), but it is always rewarding to know others enjoy it too :)
There is a track behind that was played and recorded close to the 6 minute mark by him ,watch the nods. He then solos the high notes and its faded towards the end, back to solo. He's Slick, but who's gonna back him?? Hey, even SRV played rhythm on songs on Texas Flood album, Love Struck Baby has a rhythm track. It's still 3 piece.....with a rhythm and vocal track.Awsome!!!! These guys are in a league of their own.
I first started listening to Jerry Douglas after he was introduced to me by younger brother Frank who was becoming an aspiring young guitarist about 35 years ago. He is definitely good at his craft. Too bad nobody ever figured out how to replace elevator music with Jerry's solos. Even Zamfir would be better.
Some of his best work, in my opinion, is on a 1979 Tony Rice album called Manzanita. It’s a benchmark record and features Sam Bush and Ricky Skaggs as well, among others. For anyone who may be new to this guy or his music, if you want to hear some incredible playing, check out that album. One of my “desert island” albums.
You ain't kiddin. Ive been listening to Jerry Douglas since in the womb (literally, mom tried to play some) and he never ceases to amaze me. That Manzinita album is INCREDIBLE!
Probably the best Dobro player in the world but now a young emerging player by the name of Justin Moses will be the next in line. Check him out on his original song She's Crazy
He was Great way back when he first started out! Now he's (only a conservative guess), about 40 light years ahead of the rest of the whole Freakin' music world OOOO
Chat Conversation Start 10:56PM Hello Jerry. Sorry, I know you are very busy, but i am learning Lap Steel. DAF#DAD . Can you tell me if i am playing a G chord, how do i tilt my bar to get the 4 and 5 Chord and on what strings Thanks George, From Ontario Canada
Lauren Wilson Caplan it’s a medley of sorts. He starts off playing a tune called A Tribute to Peador O’Donell and ends with an old Allman Brothers song called Little Martha. Not sure about the song (or songs) in the middle.
Getting to see him live with Allison Krauss and Union Station in 2007 is one of my favorite memories
Was there with my daughter, unbelievable.
I could listen to that ALL day long and never get tired of hearing it ... :o)
No doubt, Jerry is the best ever lived to play this instrument! He will forever be my hero!
@@TMeAdventures ❤️
Thanks for adding. Jerry is a genius. And remember: Culture makes the world go on.
Jerry is simply the best at what he does. No one has ever come close and may never will.
Amen
Jerry is the King for sure!
I have loved his music for years ❤❤
Watching his hands is mesmerizing ❤
First time I ever heard this guy play was as a backing musician, and I had no idea who he was, but could tell right away he was something special. Superb musician.

Love the Allman Brothers parts and all of this amazing performance !
Man I just discovered this guy, He plays so mellow and sweet compared to others
When someone plays a traditional Japanese koto, they move the frets. Watching Douglas play the dobro reminds me of this. He is wonderful to listen to.
I will be seeing Jerry tonight!! My favorite musician!! If you haven't seen Jerry live, I feel sorry for you!!
Jerry Douglas is the BEST dobro player in THE WORLD.
The best to ever do it on the Dobro!
Nice footage, thanks for posting!

Good stage presence as well as witty on top of all that talent and originality.

Jerry Garcia also I believe! Love that album
It's the album I always recommend to people who think they might like bluegrass, but always bring up Deliverance when you mention the banjo.

Will check out Mamzanita now. Always a Jerry Douglas fan.
