Pitties are not the same as "bully pits" as I've heard them called--obviously related but in my experience pitties are naturally more relaxed and gentle. I've met lots of delightful pitties.

Rich people had these dogs to watch over their children and protect them. They can get along with other pets and children. It depends on how they are raised. Postman here. You would be surprised just how many dogs greet me that way. I know almost every one of them by name, I always have treats for them and unlimited pats and butt scratches. I also have that one dog, where I don't deliver post anymore, but I walk by on my way home, and even though she didn't see me for a year or so, she recognised me almost imidiatelly, grabbed my hand in her teeth and then walked me to her home :P I have many owners, that I am the only stranger their dogs like, because normally they are shy or skittish, but they are happy about me. This is the only thing I will miss about this job when I finally dump it.
Edit: I seem to have befriended some crows as well. I give them some treats, and they call each other and land near me and follow me around. Though they don't let me touch them or come too close. One even scratches my bike with his talons to get to treats.

My dogs are still active ignoring our new Postman because they keep on waiting for our old postman (1 yr gone). Only the regular UPS driver and the trash pick up men are welcomed the old fashion way. Only the little furbaby will wag her tail at the new postman.

Our Staffie is exactly the same. Loves human attention and the neighbours love him. He waits by the dwarf wall in the garden for the neighbours to get out of their cars. He doesn't bark, chase cats or sheep. Amazing companion.

I love when dogs are friendly. I had a neighbor when I was growing up, his dogs always came over to the fence, if you were friendly. When one passed away, we'd grieve and tell the neighbor, how much his dog meant to us. Dogs and cats, do bring people together.

Years ago, while I was living in Florida, I walked by a yard sale and stopped to take a look. There were dogs walking around greeting people, but I noticed there was a pitbull leashed to a tree just sitting, ears down and looking sullen. I said, "A pitbull!" and walked over to it. He stood up and wagged his tail as I walked over and as soon as I got to him, he flopped onto his back and was all about the tummy scratches. He was really a sweet dog. When I asked the owner why the dog was leashed up I was told that when he was up and around, people were afraid to come to the sale and only started stopping to look when the dog was moved away and leashed. Poor doggie.

Not sure where you are, but here in the States, when a dog bite is reported by the media, the only time the breed is mentioned is when it's a pit bull of some kind. That is definitely prejudicial. Pit breeds, as in any dog have their own personalities that vary from dog to dog. Generally, pits that attack people have been mistreated, improperly trained, or improperly socialized. All three are human errors.

Yes, that’s true when they are treated well, but unfortunately there are still lots of people attracted to pit bulls precisely because of their ability to frighten people and kill other dogs, and train them to be weapons. Then there are owners who have no idea how to train or control dogs and let the dog walk all over them and everyone else. Assuming that all pit bulls are sweet and cuddly is just as foolish and unwarranted as assuming they’re all vicious. Dogs are a reflection of their owners; I generally don’t trust a pit bull or a dog from any fighting breed unless I’m cool with the owners first.

We shared our lives with a Dachshund for many, many years. She was & will always be Family. We used to say/still say; Technically she doesn't belong to us --- We belong to her.

I just got a staffy from the local shelter. 3 year old girl and shes the sweetest kindest dog I've ever had. She's home at last. Looks like you found one too.Never overlook this breed they get a bad rep but they are wonderful pets if they're loved.
The way he was holding her in his lap and she just looked so calm and content was so sweet. I am so glad that the neighbors are petting her and saying hello, that they aren't afraid to pet her. I've heard so many stories where a sweet pitties just wants to be pet by the people that walk by but they are scared to pet them. It's so heart warming!

Look up the article called 5 types of pit bull bog breeds, it’ll tell you some of the breeds that are considered pit bulls or bully breeds. It’s important to know because of the discrimination around these dog breeds, like at apartments and even vet offices.

In the building I live in we’re allowed to have dogs but not many people do. So when I moved in with my dog Red, he immediately became the “building dog”. He’d wander around the halls, go up and down the elevator, just nudging people’s doors to see if they’d open so he could come in and greet people. One day I thought he’d actually gotten lost, but turns out he’d wandered into a neighbor’s apartment, was sitting on the couch with the neighbor, watching TV. Everybody loved him. And he really helped me be less shy and get to know my neighbors. When he passed three years ago, nearly everyone in the building wished me condolences. Some of them even came to say goodbye just before he passed. It’s amazing how dogs can bring total strangers together. Fly high my sweet boy.

@iqthepoeticI'm not using "feelings" alone. I am basing it on experience. I work with dogs and have seen aggressive dogs of all kinds of breeds. I have even been bit in the face by a dog before. All the aggressive dogs I've seen have been the product of irresponsible owners who should have never been allowed to own dogs. Instead of attacking the breed, people should be attacking irresponsible idiots who think dogs don't require any work. I call you a nutter because you're going around attacking people just for liking this dog.
