We first started talking with Alana Springsteen about a Tiny Desk concert more than a year ago, back when she began releasing the three EPs that would make up her stunning debut album Twenty Something. By the time we finally got her in the office, she showed up ready to make it count, with a carefully arranged setlist she delivered in an impossible-to-miss, bright red, leather suit, backed by an incredible band.
Springsteen’s set featured multiple surprises, including a version of the Tiësto song “Hot Honey” (a track she guested on when Tiësto released it last month). She also performed a brand new song we’re premiering called “feels good,” a twisted tale about flirting with death, going to extremes and self-sabotage.
Springsteen also included a slow-burning version of “ghost in my guitar,” swapping the electric guitar performed by Chris Stapleton on her album for a cello, before closing with a stripped-down version of the title cut to Twenty Something, a deeply moving coming-of-age song that left a lot of us at the office in tears.

I’m here-first time listening to Alana Springsteen. I play music/write songs too. I also like anyone from The Cure to Phish and love reggae and folk. This was a pretty solid performance and the cello/ steel guitar player was great. I don’t love main stream country- more of a Billy Strings guy but I enjoyed this, Alana- stay true and don’t forget all the people along the way that helped you make it big. I consider you big if you are on Tiny Desk. Congrats 🎉

For Anyone that doesn't know who @Alana Springsteen is...look her up. She is Amazing! I got to go to her concert at my local college in May and Wow! She took pic w me when she found out my bday was in a couple days and also signed and wrote Happy Birthday to me on the setlist and gave it to me. I love her and her music! Will see her again. ❤

One more time I‘m amazed by the artists‘ talent and by the supreme audio engineering that captures all the musicians present.
Where are the mics that capture the background singing with the third song? How do you tame the drums in a setting with a cello and an upright? How do you make everyone forget there‘s no bassist?

The cello instead of bass is a brilliant idea, as it really! works.
I'm 5mins in..but the 1st song is really good songwriting _ easy listening enough..but not too much either. And the emotion, although subtle..comes through.
She's got a cool tone, and is very rythmic too.
2nd song is not my wheel house, as much, but sounds solid and brings the upbeat vibe.
3rd song's got the country vibes, definitely, namely the lyrics. Again, cool rythmic groove.
She's definitely going places
, and it helps that the band is a really good extension of her thing, turning good songwriting into solid songs.
And if this can be Pop .. all the better, as it brings instrumental solos, into the mainstream .
4th song, piano and pedal-steel, brings back a nice different, touch.
So, she/they really seem to have planned this well.
NPR at its best, bringing us, namely ppl accross the pond, like me, good NEW music.
