Thanks for all the great drills and tips for 2024. Although I didn’t break 80, I did break 90 consistently. My game definitely improved in 2024. I played my final round for 2024 and saw improvements from start to finish. Need to sink more putts in 2025… Thanks again Alex!!! Merry Christmas 🎄
Tried this, and wow the chipping game has vastly improved. Shame about the driving which fell apart, however will look back at some of those videos. Can't wait for the spring to get those scores down
I'm working on the 6-8-10 chipping system, which is close to this. When chipping, decide how much roll out you need. A 6 iron should fly 25% and roll 75%. An 8 iron should fly 33% and roll 66%. A PW (10 iron) should fly 50% and roll 50%.
I’m working on 50:50 for everything with a SW , not many amateurs are gonna be able to flop a wedge with enough height or spin to stop it 80:20 , maybe on the odd occasion like a blind squirrel finding a nut !
Hmm, this lesson confuses me. You are getting 20% air, 80% rollout with a PW, while I would get 80% air, 20% rollout with the same club. I usually pitch with an 8 iron, shooting for 50:50.
Alex-I love the simplicity of the 20/80 method, but I am confused by the club selection. I have been told that GW, PW, 9 and 8 will roll 1, 2, 3 and 4 times the flight respectively. This would make me pull 8 iron, but you clearly demonstrated wedges effectively. Can you please explain?
They aren't too different really if you look at the ratios but the rule of 12 gives you a club number too. I would use that with the advice given here about how that plays out and how to get into the right mindset
@@AlexElliottGolf OR, hit the ball a little harder and trust that you know your shot!!!! You do not always have to let the ball roll a lot. It will vary by club!!!!!
i've been playing good. (For me) Suddenly, the other day, i began shanking my 56 wedge around the green. How can i stop shanking immediately? I've never had this problem.---I was tired late in the round. The first 14 holes were great. What happened?----Help!
Her comment about going into the bunker is ridiculous. A miss hit would put the ball in the bunker not depth of shot. Also, factor wind, grain, slope, dry or wet green, grass with or against ball at address, is pin on a concave or convex area of green. This is strange advice 😅
What a load of malarkey... I get the meaning, but NO NO NO!!!!! You cannot have 20% air and 8-% rollout with every chip. It just will not work. My goal was to get the ball on the green and rolling, because I knew what it was going to do then. It was not always 20% air/80% roll... If I am chipping with an 8-iron, the ball is going to roll much more than with a pitching wedge. It is just the nature of the loft of the club. His thought of tossing the ball underhand at the beginning is how I think of chip shots. Where do I want the ball to land? How much roll after it lands? What obstacles do I need to avoid?
You can't teach feel, so important you get out on the course when it's quiet (or if you've got a good short game area) and hit 2/3 balls from the same place to see what works and hit different shots/clubs
Hello Steve..this is a real stripped back version. If we are talking about grain we also need to take that into the lie to in order to play the shot effectively This is a simple version. I hope it helps
By far the best wedge selection video-helps with the decision making around the green. Now just need to practice. Thanks

What was happing with the driving???
@AlexElliottGolf me rushing it. I know I need to slow the back swing down. Get back to my normal routine.
Again 5 GOATs
Hi I hope it helps
Great idea and easy way to think about it.

Love the sweater! And instruction!
Great video Alex.
AWESOME Lesson Thanks so much
Great video. Thanks so much it’s so clear and correct 😊
Thank you 🙏🏼
I get it. Thanks!
Thank you Patrick!!!

Yeah, completely depends on speed of the greens. He's chipping on summer greens there... totally different right now in UK.

You also talk about the rule of 12 around the green. I started using and have become a pretty good chipper. So which is better 12 or 80/20?
Which ever method works best for you is the best method.

Whichever works for you to be honest
good stuff thanks
Can you explained the difference between the 54,56,60 degree club shot I am trying to use a 56 for shots between 40-70 yards
Great question Tony!
I would use this video - ruclips.net/video/OkF5MC3-kcY/видео.htmlsi=n3vhLwhSmtAkCvmY
This was great advice. Dr Gus Greenfield approved! Now if I could just make proper contact.
You can do it! Thank you for the support
What if the greens are wet and slow?
For sure! This is a great question wet and slow I would just use less loft to give the shot more forwards momentum
@@AlexElliottGolf OR, hit the ball a little harder and trust that you know your shot!!!! You do not always have to let the ball roll a lot. It will vary by club!!!!!
Enjoyed but the last one looked 50/50. 😊
Thank you! Yeah it think it was a little over pitched

I bet you're an absolute blast at parties. 🙄
Its spelt 'gauge'

For sure it’s very hard but this is a good starting point to develop it
I think you are ignoring the difference in green speeds from course to course.
Jeez I hate Malbons clothes!
How come?
@AlexElliottGolf Yours don't look bad, but it's hard to get those burned in images of Jason Day, swallowed up by his clothes, out of my mind
Keep moving and get that belly button pointing to the target…you can’t stop and stops duffs
You can reduce them
here
The diagram looks wrong ! The red line is about one half the length of the blue line, when it should be a quarter.
Hilarious your not demonstrating 20 80 percent those were about 40 60.
It’s the mentality….
If you look at the flag, you pitch to the flag. My issue is not looking at the flag. Very hard for me not to look at it
Hi Larry! You have to stick with it and it will work for you
Total nonsense, uphill downhill with the grain against the grain

I think I’ll go mad if I’m having lesson with you with all the talk.
