  • Have you ever been in a situation at the poker table where you just have no idea what you are meant to do? Well, that occasionally happens to professional poker players too! While playing in a cash game at The Wynn in Las Vegas, Rampage Poker finds himself in a confusing situation when facing a min-raise on the turn whilst holding trips. Should he call, raise, or fold? He doesn’t know what to do! What would you do?
    When you are out of position and playing very deep-stacked poker, you should use larger raise sizes when deciding to 3-bet your opponents. Playing out of position is extremely disadvantageous in poker as your opponent will have much more information about the hand than you will. If you were to play a game of rock, paper, scissors and you had the option to pick last. Who would win that game? You! By using a larger raise size you disincentivize your opponent in calling whilst it also helps you narrow their range when they do call. When the stacks become shallower you then start to use smaller 3-bet sizes out of position since the stack-to-pot ratio (SPR) is much lower than it would be in a deep stacked game.

    🔍 Preflop:
    With blinds at $20/$40 the Villain opens to $110 from the lojack. Rampage Poker 3-bets to $550 with AK of spades from the small blind. After the big blind folds, the villain calls and they head to the flop.
    💸 Flop - Kc Kh 4s:
    Rampage flops trip kings and a backdoor flush draw with his Big Slick. He fires out a small continuation bet of $300. The villain calls and they both head to the turn.
    💣 Turn - Th:
    The T of hearts on the turn brings in potential backdoor straight and flush opportunities. Rampage puts out an overbet of $2,500 with his three kings. His opponent then clicks it back and min-raises to $5,000. What will the poker vlogger do next: fold, call, or move all-in? Does Rampage Poker even know what he should do? Idk. A 3bet OOP with a flop that crushes the 3bettors range is easy to fold with any hand that loses. I could get away from QQ, and that's top of range. I don't have two pair on the flop. I MIGHT have a FH on the turn, so the overbet is actually pretty bad

      This begs the question, if a flush draw hits on the turn and someone raises big, do you assume:
      1) they have a flush draw
      2) they want to avoid the river completing a flush draw and have a decent hand (less than a flush) - and want you to fold

    The guy was raising Rampage to get him to fold or get a free showdown on the river if he doesn't improve. Rampage only gives a free card if he calls and will never get another bet on the river unless he is 100 percent beat. Correct shove by Rampage.

    Rampage played it perfect. You already said everything to the turn was perfect. Then he overbets the turn, which has the strange effect of making people want to get cute and call. The guy had nothing, and figured Rampage had nothing, so he tried the min-raise. So basically Rampage managed to get an additional $5k over the measly $1740 that was in there, when his opponent didn't have much. That's a good day at the office...

  • @kylebroussard5952
    @kylebroussard5952 2 дня назад +15

    Eh. This is genuinely pretty standard. Turn bet should be closer to 2/3. But when he raises the turn, regardless of the sizing, shoving is fine. What hands can commit basically 50% their stack here on the turn and not call a jam? Literally almost none. It's extremely rare to see this type of play in live poker.
    The guy is more or less stabbing with 88 or something thinking "i can get A high to maybe call and check river, and anything that isn't A high or a K folds basically." Not to mention, if he reraises, it's an easy fold. This is less bad play from Rampage, and really precise play from the Villain. I bet villain never does this min raised with a foldable hand against a more snug player. Because a more snug player has less bluffs and A high C bet stabs on this dry of a board.
    The villain also more or less accomplishes capping his risk with this play. He knows it's likely all getting in on the river, so by min raising to look strong against stabs and bluffs, he gets to fold every reraise and technically save $ vs what he might call off or bluff off on rivers where he just calls Rampages initial turn bet.
    Then again this board isn't really that "dynamic" you have one straight draw and a runner runner flush to sweat. And the way it's played a flush is unlikely.
    The opponent likely had 99, 88, 77, A10... something that has showdown value, but not drawing to anything. Also something small enough that can either set mine or see a flop pre, but doesn't necessarily benefit from a reraise preflop against a player like Rampage.

    • @Mwuesse
      @Mwuesse День назад +2

      Raising turn to "find out where you are and buy a cheap river" is not good poker for so many reasons and a good player will absolutely punish you for it. What happens when they reshove on you with a bluff? You didn't find out where you were at - you got bluffed off the pot. Instead of raising turn you can call and your range will be protected because you can definitely have plenty of KQ/KJ/KT and even TT hands in your range. So why are you worried about being bluffed on the river? If opponent is overbluffing you can make some hero calls OTR with a hand like AT as well but your Kx alone is going to be more than enough combos to bluff catch.
      Are you m-r turn with KQ or KJ here? TT? It doesn't make any sense to raise those hands, so this m-r screams full of bullshit

    • @kylebroussard5952
      @kylebroussard5952 23 часа назад

      @Mwuesse I'm not saying he did it to get a cheap river. I'm saying he did it to get a fold, or so it could maybe go check check river and he gets showdown. OR he spikes what he wants or a scare card on river and can blast. Villain did this with either pure air or weak showdown imo.
      Still makes no sense. This is like a 0.05% frequency occurrence or less in my experience. I'd say this is such a rare play it's almost arguably not even worth talking about. You could play this hand 999,999 times and probably never run into an opponent who plays it this strangely again.

    • @Mwuesse
      @Mwuesse 20 часов назад

      @@kylebroussard5952 What's he trying to fold though? Rampage is repping a polarised range of nut hands (KQ+ for value, premium combo draws and then some really junky draws like a Q9s) You aren't folding the first 2 so you're trying to fold him off a low equity bluff.
      Sure folding him off some equity has some value but you get way more value to either let him bluff it off or see a cheaper showdown without putting in an extra 2.5k that is going to cost you any time you are beat.

    • @kylebroussard5952
      @kylebroussard5952 16 часов назад

      @Mwuesse that's what I'm saying though. This action by the villain is sooooo out of line and out of the norm, you more or less can't even analyze it from Rampages standpoint. Sure. Turn bet could be closer to 2/3. But aside from that, Little is reaching here. Plenty of other hands to flame Rampage for, but this one ain't it. It's played so unorthodox by the opponent that it doesn't even fit on a normal distribution curve except for at like 3+ Standard Deviation. No matter how you chop it up, Rampage can't play this hand *correctly* because it's so odd and out of the ordinary, there's no appropriate reaction to it.

  • @timmgray
    @timmgray 2 дня назад

    If the opponent had A10 then he blocks AA and AK pre-flop and can reasonably call the 3bet. With two Kings on the flop it makes AK even less likely. Rampage's turn overbet looks like a semi-bluff (AQ, AJ, QJ, 4h5h, Jh9h are some good possibilities). A10 wants to get more value from those draws but may want to be able to save his last 11k if a heart comes on the river.

    Since he raised, called a 5x reraise then min-raised then he likely has: AA, QQ, JJ. He clearly does not have 4's or 10's and I doubt he has any kings or any pairs below 10's since he would of folded already. Other possible hands, AQ, AJ, QJ, but I don't think u should be raising with those hands since being re-raised would be very uncomfortable.

    "Free showdown raise" with a ten, 99, etc
    Old limit poker term I know.. raising "for information" is a similar way to look at it. If reraised, you fold and sleep well at night. if not, you figure he was on a draw or similar medium-strength hand, and you're relieved to take your river showdown. in essence, you've priced in the equivalent of your river bet as the min raise instead of having to make a decision for a bigger bet.
    Many reasons why this play can be inadvisable, especially if you read your opponent (Rampage!) as wild so the "information" you bought is corrupted.

    I don't think the opponent min-raised with QJ hearts, AJ hearts or AQ hearts because he's calling the all-in for another $5k with those holdings, especially if there's a possibility that if he hits a pair with either card bigger than a 10 it might still be good along with the straight and flush draws. He could have been bluffing with an AhJ or AhQ with the Ah nut blocker, gutter and two overs, but he probably still calls the all in with those holdings as well. This kind of raise makes sense if you have say, 20k or more left in your stack, as you can be representing the min bet as an all in and add a bit of confusion to the hand, but this is some odd play, I wouldn't suggest this type of play unless you are some meta-meta player with alien info on the game.

    My question is does Rampage really bluff this way ever? Or I should say enough of the time?
    Betting small on the flop and than going like 1.5X on the turn. I would think this is almost always a value bet on the turn. Also, I'm not saying I would ever fold AK here but you are definitely committed on the turn with this big bet. You are going to have like a pot size bet on the river, regardless of the card that comes you probably are supposed to go with your hand. And if your opponent calls that big of a turn bet, you might be in trouble.
    Obviously they can have KJ or KQ (or AK for a chop), but they called a 5X raise preflop. I'd imagine most players would fold out KJ/KQ that are not suited, so you are against KJ of diamonds, KQ of diamonds, and AK of diamonds. They are in fact more likely to have you beat with value hands like TT (3 combos), 44 (combos) and KT of diamonds (1 combo). And I think they fold out almost everything else with that big of a turn bet.

      I didn't watch the entire hand, I stopped after he made the turn bet. I guess your committed here and the play is fine. I don't know what his opponent was doing to be honest, I'd imagine most of the time you are beat. The opponent must of had complete air because any hand with any sort of equity (straight draw, flush draw) you should call with given you are getting like 4-1 or something.

    I domt know how players like Rampage play this level. Seen many vlogs he is so off optimal +EV many times also out of line. Really blows my mind.

  • @strider596

    If V happened to be a sicko I could see the bluff just being AQss. Honestly its pretty great to not have a heart if you think rampage is bluff heavy since he will call turn fold river bricks.
    This sizing structure is all rediculous anyways. Cbetting this small is absurd deepstacked. And on the turn generally you cant overbet paired boards because card removal is so important (if you have a K they are half as likely, if you don't have a K they are twice as likely to have one).

    You mention post flop that pocket pairs have two outs to crush him. As if that should be considered when betting on the flop. But when turn comes out you talk as if you want open ended straights calling you on the turn for your larger sized bet. Why are you less worried about more outs coming on the turn than with less outs that could come on the flop? Ty for any reply in advance.

      @ba1038 2 дня назад +3

      Ok so you’re not “worried” about the outs on the flop, you’re sizing so as to get a call from those pocket pairs. They only have 2 out so they will often fold to a large flop bet and call a small one. We want that call, so betting small makes most sense against that and similar hands

    A4 of hearts, and don't know why he folded after committing his stack with the min reraise. Pre-flop bet of 110 is a nice blinds stealing bet from the LJ.

    1st he pre flop raises, so AQ hearts, that could be a good re raise on the turn, but probably would be better just to make the call and see the river. Pk QQ.. Nice rip tho. U got what u got from opp with the nice reraise.

    • @atfti
      @atfti 2 дня назад

      Problem is if Villain calls, they have better than KQ, yk? It's risking a lot and filtering way too narrow. Besides, just because it's solver approved doesn't mean that's the correct option here. People can get really sticky, and a suited KT crushes you here
