Wow, Ben saying "if you're a manager and have a french employee, you'll want to be able to speak to them." Really stood out to me. I live in California, we have lots of immigrants from Mexico but a lot of ppl in high positions expect their ppl to speak english to them and dont even think about knowing spanish so that they can communicate with them.
Sienna that's because french is the official language in Canada. In America english is the only official language, so ofc that those immigrants have to speak english (I mean at their jobs, in those professional situations)
The US doesn't have an official language. Some states have declared English their official language, but there has been no law passed at the federal (national) level.
Omg yes. My mom can understand English a little bit but she doesn’t know how to speak it. When shes asks if they speak Spanish they’re always like “uh no.” So I usually have to speak for her and translate
Our French in Canada are not immigrants our French are born and raised in Canada for many generations. ( well forever) Obviously there's going to be French speaking immigrants and all kinds of other immigrants however in Canada we have French and English speaking citizens. I'm proud we have two languages in Canada
I think it’s pretty admirable that you guys can admit that part of your success is simply luck! I think people don’t like to admit this that much because they think that it disregards their hard work but the truth is that people can work so hard for many years and never have the same amount of success as you guys and it’s important to know this! The narrative that you just have to work hard and you will get whatever you want is damaging.
So much this! And a lot of successful people contribute to that narrative when they say that you just have to want it enough and work hard and you'll be successful. Like, no, that's not how the world works. Feeling like you are entitled to success because you work hard can be so damaging if that success doesn't come.
@@Bibken This reminds me of another youtuber who posted a rant about how hard she works to get in the music business and how much money her parents put into her music career and she was fed up that it was going nowhere. And it's like girl, I understand this might all seem super unfair, but there's no "how to get rich and famous" playbook out there because it all comes down to LUCK. If there was a playbook on how to get famous, EVERYONE would be famous, and fame would lose it's meaning and everyone would want to be "normal" instead because that would be seen as more unique than being famous. Some people work their asses off their whole lives and get nowhere and sadly, that's just the way shit is and we have to accept that. The girl wasn't a bad singer, I genuinely thought she had a beautiful voice, but she was an outspoken Trump supporter that defended him at every turn, but would also make videos calling out Tana Mongeau (who is also controversial but has a large following so they would attack the girl for calling her out), I remember she even posted a video where she was clearly drunk with her friends (they were underage at the time as well iirc) and they were using gay slurs. I haven't watched her in a few years and I looked her up recently and she's changed her channel name, deleted more than half of the videos on her channel, including the most controversial ones that she was most known for, and uses clickbait titles and thumbnails. I mean it sucks that she has to resort to clickbait for views, but I think she may have realized that her dreams of a music career are just not happening anytime soon.
The most sexist and hilarious thing I had to hear at my work place was from a colleague I originally had respect for and one day, while having lunch together, out of the blue he said: "You know, women get less paid for the same work for a good reason." Well, I was curious and wanted to hear his opinion and in his mind, because women get periods and "get all moody and sloppy and annoying" they suck at work in these days of the month. So, it's only right to give them less money. We are - thank god - out of touch today, haha. Besides being hilariously wrong, statistically men tend to be more moody and emotional at work than women. Because culture and society taught girls & women to behave and be silent in any situation, while men and boys were allowed to behave however they want ("let boys be boys").
statistics or not im not even sure its true with the whole moodswings before/during your period anyways maybe a bit of a bad mood if you have murderous cramps but otherwise no bipolar stereotype-like behavior at least i personally dont get moodswings so it might be true to some degree but again im not sure
ask him to be the logical man and prove his hypothesis by observing his female coworkers' work over the span of a few months and point out the periods where their standard of work dropped and therefore make an educated guess on when his female coworkers have their periods :) of course he'd have to do this blind so slide in a few piece of male coworker's work in there so he has to point out which ones have no cyclical drops but only irregular drops in standard and therefore would be the work of a male employee. if the drop in standard is enough to affect their pay then it should be enough to be observable i suppose
This reminds me when men say that women can not be president because when they get on their period and get moody that they will just press the red button and launch bombs everywhere like is that what people really think women just want to do? Like if someone is ‘emotional’ or ‘moody’ it tends to be for a reason.
I've actually read your report on prostitution offences in Canada and used it to write a university essay on the impact of the level of legalization of sex work in Canada.
the thing is sometimes its not only fans when you upload something on the internet everyone has access to it and when those people show you can’t really do kuch about it like just stop showing your location maybe
Speaking of male dominated fields: I work in aerospace engineering and a funny thing is that in my unit there are only 2 women: me and the boss, hehe. 😁 It was actually pretty cool because she took it upon herself to check in on me to see if my coworkers (100% men) were not excluding me, which fortunately they accepted me pretty well into the team.
I also worked in aerospace engineering (I recently changed job, but I'm still in predominantly male field - processor design) and I also have just the best experiences. I was the only female engineer in the team (there was one other female as administrative support) and I was also the youngest, but all (or at least most) of my colleagues respected me a accepted me to the team too. I definitely didn't leave because of any problems with my team, I just wanted to try something different. In my current team there are two more women, one o them in supervisor position, and I think that all of us are treated well and respected as equals.
I love that they both really showcase you can be an intelligent, successful person and still have a creative and quirky side. They're both clearly highly educated, comprehensive individuals and yet they make me laugh no matter what. Some of my favorite role models.
I cited the attrition paper that Cristine wrote in a recent paper for a crim course, I’m so glad you guys are talking about this because it’s so important & really sticks with me too
I’m part of the younger audience and I enjoy podcasts just as much. I listen to podcasts whilst doing homework but i do agree these podcast would appeal to an older audience I’m 13 and I would consider that old enough to consider opposite views and the deeper meaning of a question but someone age 6 might not have the patient to sit through an hour of deep thought processes. I still think that if I were younger I would still have enjoyed these podcasts but wouldn’t appreciate them as much
@@keiranich6160 I am a couple years younger than you (by couple I don’t mean like 5, 6, 7, you get the point. Like 1,2,3 (not sharing real age for privacy reasons)) but I love these podcasts! They are amazing and I love that they are long. I can sit through them and learn and never get bored, and I never realize how much time has passed. These are great too cause if I am working I don’t constantly have to look up at the screen to see what they are doing. I think pretty much any age can listen to these podcasts, but maturity level would play a role too. A couple kids my age would never listen to these and would not have any interest in these. They are a lot more kiddish and wouldn’t really listen. I know a 8 year old that might love these podcasts. So yeah I have no idea why I wrote this reply, just wanted to share my view!
That Redditor was just trying to stir things up and cause trouble. EVERYONE acts differently at work than they do at home. I have work mode, home mode, family/mom mode, and hanging out with friends mode. It’s all me, but I just can’t realistically “act the same way” everywhere. I’m not going to be formal and professional at home and I can’t be silly and funny at work lol
I would love to listen to a podcast of your undergrad and especially graduate school educations. What were your majors/classes/professors like? What kinds of classes did you take? What did you learn, especially in grad school? ❤️
I know that I want to at least do my masters (I might do my PhD and work my way to becoming a professor) but I honestly have no idea what masters and PhD’s entail. Is it a lot of research?
It’s never surprised me given the value Cristine places in education that she genuinely loves her job and sees a lot of benefit from it. Just because you’ve obtained a lot of money from RUclips does not at all mean that you just have to sit at home and make videos all day especially if it’s purely a hobby and you really enjoy that “day job!” Cristine - as someone who highly values their “normal job” it’s very refreshing to see a RUclipsr still place value in theirs the way you do and not promoting the “drop out/quit and just make videos” approach! Thanks for all you do and loving the pods 💜🥰
Im like cristine when it comes to my interest in criminology, I watch shows like buzzfeed unsolved to hear more about killers and other crimes. But I know there is so much more in that field then just homicides. I do plan on doing criminal justice and criminology when I go to University.
I have my degree in criminology, and what you will learn will be mind blowing lol. And there's so much you can do with criminology, it definitely won't be a waste of time!
If you haven’t heard of it, you should check out a show called “Deadly Women” from the Investigation Discovery channel (it is available on Hulu if you have it). It is a show that profiles women who become killers, and sometimes serial killers, and events that led them to it. Very interesting. It is one of my favorite shows. I also love watching Unsolved.
I would perhaps recommend steering clear of buzzfeed unsolved, they often leave large key pieces of evidence in order to make it more exciting. Often, they are rather insensitive aswell.
@@ejane2112 Hi, I'm also pursuing a BA in Criminology and I graduate this coming December! Some courses I took were: Intro To Sociology; Sociology Of Deviant Behavior; Race, Class, Gender: Social Inequalities; Criminology; Intro To Methods/Research; Social Problems In A Global Context; Race And Ethnic Relations; Thinking Sociologically: Classical Theory; Sociological Perspectives: Social Psychology; Juvenile Delinquency; Intro To Data Analysis, African American Perspectives On Crime; Contemporary Gangs In America; African American Social Thought; Seeing Society: Contemporary Theory; Marriage And The Family; Criminal Justice; and Drugs and Society
I can't imagine getting a master's degree and then quitting by day job because I get RUclips famous... A degree is so much time invested 🤔 maybe if you become Will Smith or Jenifer Lopez famous and it becomes unsafe for you to work.
I agree. I don't understand how people spend time getting their degrees and then work in a completely different field, because basically no one in my family works in their field of study. For example my parents finished hydro engineering and work in nothing remotely similar to that. My cousins, one of them graduated from Chemistry and the other one from English and again both don't work in their fields of study and it's strange to me. I always think what if you finished medical school and then chose to do something else.
Vi. Scer in some cases (like mine), going to get a degree was expected of me by my family and I had no idea what I wanted to do. Ended up doing Early Childhood Studies and refused the teaching top up because I still wasn’t sure I was happy! Worked in a nursery for four years and definitely do not want to do that for the rest of my life. Wish I could’ve put off university until I was happy because I could never afford to retrain now!
Vi. Scer unfortunately, sometimes life doesn't work out. I graduated with a bachelors in biology six years ago yet no one will give me a chance and I still work at my shitty part-time job that I had in college… Still a loser now at 30 😢
I'm a translator (not for the government YET) and i really appreciate when our hard work is recognized by professionals in other fields. Thanks Cristine and Ben!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I appreciate Cristine being so transparent about Criminology and sociology, it is really helpful hearing someone so smart having difficulty understanding those. It really hit me hard when she said "crime isn't bad people doing bad things, sometimes it's people trying to live". Wow, thank you guys for being so insightful and honest!
As a qualitative researcher, I always cried during the data collection phase of our projects, mainly because our primary sources are not always easy to contact and meet for interviews or surveys.
Being stuck at home, I've been doing a lot of data cleaning myself (I'm a grad student). So I got inordinately excited when you talked about data cleaning. 😆
I feel like the podcast is "more" ben's, i don't know how to explain it, he looks like the conductor and I personally love it, I relate to Ben a lot. I think it's because the channel is simply's and Ben is there as a "guest" and here they are both equally. I don't know if this makes sense, but I really love the podcast! About this podcast, I love to hear how you got where you are!
Ben does a really good job of interviewing Cristine and also probing for more information while giving his own thoughts. He's a very thoughtful, eloquent person; I'm glad we get to see this side of him on the podcast!
I'm actually using this to motivate me to write. I have this in the background so I know where my end-goal is. I want to have a successful and fulfilling career helping people in a think tank as an analyst.
First of all, I love how Ben gets to do the intro for this channel! Secondly, I think you two are some of the most down-to-earth people on this platform (independent of the fact that you have day jobs-I think the same of Jenna & Julien, and they’re full-time youtubers lol). You set a great example of how to be kind, respectful, and hardworking people, and I just really admire that. Also I look forward to this podcast every week!
As someone who is struggling to write their Master's thesis in quarantine right now (communication science), listening to you guys just talking about all the sociological theories and books I kinda doom all day everyday gave me some new motivation. But let me say - the process of writing any kind of thesis sucks. But not being able to vent to or work with friends in the library or going out to unwind REALLY sucks.
What's your thesis title? I can offer editing help, I love reading and am weirdly good at spotting grammar and spelling errors that pass when spellchecking 💗
I do data entry for insurance and even though it's a different type of data entry it's really refreshing seeing people I look up to talking about it 🥺❤❤
I think it is AMAZING that you keep your 9-5 job. It’s admirable honestly. I also think it’s a great and realistic thing to show others. Especially for those who want to pursue YouTubing.
The idea that people are different personas online feels kinda frustrating to me. Everyone has different sides/personas, it's not just celebrities that are supposedly 'two-faced'. They act different on camera because it's for entertainment as would anyone if were being filmed. It'd be weird if they were at an interview, ignoring the interviewer and just watching Netflix on a couch. For example, people act different to their mum than they would with their best friend, boss, or colleague. We just act different around people depending on the situation and the person (along with a bunch of other factors). It's entirely normal. Which is why it's different when you meet RUclipsrs, or celebrities; it's a different situation. With this idea, it's easier to realise that it's impossible to know everything about a person, especially a person you only see online. Sorry for the rant... Edit: Oh, wait. I only watched the question being asked and didn't see their response. They actually kinda brought up this idea. Haha.
emperor-chipotle yes!! super common especially in terms of speech and mannerisms and even more so with for example some african americans or some gay men who feel the need to (consciously or subconsciously) act different around a group of white people or straight men or a professional setting, etc.
People out there working jobs they studied for, wow. I have a master in enviromental science and let me tell you, I work at a warehouse 😂 I laugh at it, but through actual tears.
@@lauralanthalasa7 sometimes I think about it too, but then I remember I don't like programming so I wouldn't want to do it as a job 🙈 I do consider teaching as a more serious backup than waitressing 😉

I also entered sociology randomly not knowing what it was! The first time I took the intro course I was shocked about what it was about and was very interested. Originally I was thinking about going into psychology. I ended up with my BA in Sociology with my concentration in Gender and Family! I also work for the fed gov't but not StatsCan. Hahahah, funny how things work out for us sociologists.
I'm currently doing socio-legal studies at uni and hope to work for the Australian government when I graduate, I'm glad that there are other areas that aren't stats 😅
I know this might be a bizarre comment on your end, but I just really want to thank you guys for helping me have access to mature healthy adult role models. I grew up in a toxic household where I missed out on a lot of adult wisdom or "dad talk", and as I'm going into senior year and university you guys give me insight and a certain life experience perspective no one in my life could give. Thank you.
I hope that even when your youtube time ends, that you will continue to do podcasts:) I enjoy them just as much if not more but in a different way. Thank you for being a fantastic role model.
when it changed to the Cat Cam and said, "no cats today :(" I just laughed. This podcast was super interesting and fascinating to watch. You guys are AMAZING and INSPIRING! Keep safe and keep up the great work!
If you are both comfortable with it, can you share about your family? Your family dynamic growing up, how they valued education, the lessons/morals/tendencies you picked up from your parents? Also how do they feel about your life/job/youtube stuff now? Thank you!
10:35 is one of my favorite points and I'm not even finished with the podcast yet. But as someone who graduated with a bachelor's in sociology, criminal justice, and women's studies, my ultimate favorite bit is where Cristine says "crime isn't always just bad people doing bad things, sometimes it's just people trying to survive," So many people write off "criminals" or people who have done "criminal" acts as these scum of the earth, and they're not. We hyper focus on the people who truly go out of their way to be harmful and we blanket everyone under them as just as culpable and unteachable (and even more so to minorities like Black/African Americans and Latinxs at frighteningly earlier stages in life). 45:00 I do wanna add that while yes we are in a time of being hyper vigilant, Cristine did make a comment (on the topic of s*xual assault within families, but remains applicable) is that cases vary. People's experiences and life directions and circumstances are so varied, and our perception of what is a threat and what isn't a thread is wildly influenced by media, culture, history, trauma, learned behavior, etc. so to say that these times aren't as violent is well intended, but it's very limited in its scope. 50:00 Ben has a point here. There was definitely a time in my education (and even afterwards when I just started taking what I had learned in school and coupled it with therapy) where I put socio-ideological thinking as the forefront of everything, and at the end of the day it is just a giant wank fest of intellect. It's a total "cool story bro" and it ends there, whereas the more integral parts of taking human perception and cultural development has to be also categorized in a way to find patterns.
37:28 We talked about this in Philosophy class. I think it was called "seeming" where we act a certain way towards certain people simply because we take on different roles and have different relationships with each person. And yea, it's absolutely normal and it's not pretending. They're just compartmentalized actions depending on the context.
I read a similar topic in a book about introverts. Since extroversion is the social ideal, many introverts have to essentially code switch: at work, on dates, at events, etc, lest they be seen as their true selves. But since they can actually do it, to a degree, what is a true self? (Intovert. I'm an introvert).
yes! i just replied to a similar comment but ikr it’s super common especially in terms of speech and mannerisms and even more so with for example some african americans or some gay men who feel the need to (consciously or subconsciously) act different around a group of white people or straight men or a professional setting, etc.
When you talk about your jobs I get so happy that I understand what you're talking about. I usually work on my statistics homework while listening to your videos.
By far my favorite two youtubers. You two work so hard and are so respectful of your day jobs. Some people would be going for all the recognition and clout that they could get but you and Ben are so real and down to earth. I love it. Congratulations on all the success you've had so far, you'll definitely have more with your amazing work ethics.
Holo there! This podcast SPOKE TO ME!! I graduated with a bachelor's in Sociology. This entire podcast had me reminiscing and wanting to go home to read my textbooks which I kept. Thank you Cristine and Ben!!!
Y'all I wish I lived in canada... the us be wild. People in my home state are deadass protesting the stay at home order because it 'violates their rights'....
I have to admit that I don't know how to feel about the US right now. There are so many good, smart people there, but there has been so much in the news about American individuals prioritizing liberty, rights, and freedom over the collective good and it freaks me out. I'm freaked out from across the border; it must be terrifying to live in it sometimes.

This was one of the most interesting podcast episodes (not that the rest wasn't equally entertaining)! As a recent Anthropology graduate who has dabled a bit in Criminology as well, I find it both relatable and very informative...especially because I'm trying to figure out the next step in my life & what does that mean in terms of a career. So thank you both for opening up about that aspect of your lives !
I'm working towards my bachelors in biomedical engineering rn. Honestly, I could NEVER see myself doing a job like yours', but I'm glad someone wants to!! Thanks for keeping me company while I do my homework :)
Lots of things are social constructs, like time, gender, sexuality or money. But that doesn’t mean it’s not real or doesn’t have an effect on things. It just means that the rules for it are socially constructed (made up by humans) like time will pass no matter what, but they way we measure time is socially constructed.

Y’all are genuinely the perfect example/role model for kids/teens or anyone. You tell people to follow their dreams but also go to school and make sure you have a plan other then becoming “famous”. Telling them to make sure they don’t put all their eggs into one basket and have multiple options or plans for yourself. A lot of youtubers tell people to just say screw it and do whatever they want and do RUclips if they want without bringing up the fact that you 100% need a back up plan because the people who succeed in RUclips or social media is such a small percent you really need to be careful. Once again , thank you so much for being the best youtubers and humans in general , love you guys 💕
I love the content on this podcast channel. It catches me off-guard how quickly I ingest the info and how quickly the time passes by. Great job, Ben and Cristine!
This whole pod cast brought back the memories of all those elevator instagram stories she posted and that oh so familiar beeping of the elevator. I have no idea why.
This podcast truly inspires me. I'm currently in my last final exams for my licence degree, and I went into a slump of like doing the essays at the last time, giving back a poorly-written thing. But listening to you and how passionate you are in your jobs motivate me to get my degree and go to the "next stage" that motivates me way more. So thank you.

An hour long podcast basically describing to people that when you have money you can decide what you want to do, including work. I love that you guys are sharing this stuff. It's so great to have intelligent and realistic discussions of what people's lives can look like on and off youtube.
I remember in Cristine's recent video, the face-timing holo taco customers. She had mentioned that they were working on the rainbow collection. She mentioned you could see it on her nails in her mail opening video but, this video you can see it so much clearer and it's going to be B-E-A-UTIFUL
I also feel like you both being Canadian citizens relates to your feeling of equality because Canada is much further in social positivity towards gender equality and caring about people. Where here in the US there is still very obvious gender inequality in places like the work force. Both my parents work for the united states federal government the DON now retired and I was always encouraged to pursue a job in this structure due to job security and benefits but was warned by my father that it was going to be harder for me being a female and my father made significantly more money then my mother who has same level education as him just never quit advanced as far as he did which she feels no disdain over just an observation that it did happen and her not wanting someone like me her daughter to go through.
As a grad student in biology, cristine has inspired me to further my career in this field and I hope I can find something as satisfying and fullfilling as she found hers! Go women in science! 🙌🏻
As far as living at the least violent time, this is true! Part of the collective anxiety over this is simply due to globalization and the internet. Yes we are living in the least violent times. However, we are viewing and hearing more violence than ever before.
@@Cheystation Politics has a lot to do with how dangerous we perceive others to be, which is why conservatives always say how others are bringing in crime. And it works, as in America the suburban mom vote is often won by scaring them about the world.

Different thought. Because English and French are the official languages of Canada.... America is just English.
Apparently the biggest youtuber on the platform also acknowledges that and it's admirable.
Privilege also comes into it. Privileged people are luckier.
I'm only here because my mom watched Simply's main channel. Pure lick
The most sexist and hilarious thing I had to hear at my work place was from a colleague I originally had respect for and one day, while having lunch together, out of the blue he said: "You know, women get less paid for the same work for a good reason."
Well, I was curious and wanted to hear his opinion and in his mind, because women get periods and "get all moody and sloppy and annoying" they suck at work in these days of the month. So, it's only right to give them less money. We are - thank god - out of touch today, haha. Besides being hilariously wrong, statistically men tend to be more moody and emotional at work than women. Because culture and society taught girls & women to behave and be silent in any situation, while men and boys were allowed to behave however they want ("let boys be boys").
wtf? i'm so sorry you had to hear that. it's gross that he thought that was an appropriate thing to say to you.
statistics or not im not even sure its true with the whole moodswings before/during your period anyways maybe a bit of a bad mood if you have murderous cramps but otherwise no bipolar stereotype-like behavior
at least i personally dont get moodswings so it might be true to some degree but again im not sure
ask him to be the logical man and prove his hypothesis by observing his female coworkers' work over the span of a few months and point out the periods where their standard of work dropped and therefore make an educated guess on when his female coworkers have their periods :) of course he'd have to do this blind so slide in a few piece of male coworker's work in there so he has to point out which ones have no cyclical drops but only irregular drops in standard and therefore would be the work of a male employee. if the drop in standard is enough to affect their pay then it should be enough to be observable i suppose
This reminds me when men say that women can not be president because when they get on their period and get moody that they will just press the red button and launch bombs everywhere like is that what people really think women just want to do? Like if someone is ‘emotional’ or ‘moody’ it tends to be for a reason.
As a non binary person I just 👁👄👁 can’t believe this shit still exists.

That sounds amazing! Hopefully this will be something totally normal in other workplaces too 😊

I was the only female engineer in the team (there was one other female as administrative support) and I was also the youngest, but all (or at least most) of my colleagues respected me a accepted me to the team too.
I love the fact that there is a more serious channel as well as a silly one because we see both parts of Cristine and Ben
OMG I used your paper on prostitution offences in my Criminology paper last week! I wrote about the selective criminalization of women.
Lauren Plester I like to watch Eleanor Neale as well as the buzz field one, Eleanor always explains it so clearly
I would perhaps recommend steering clear of buzzfeed unsolved, they often leave large key pieces of evidence in order to make it more exciting. Often, they are rather insensitive aswell.

When you procrastinate by watching youtube and the video calls you out for it
First of all, I love how Ben gets to do the intro for this channel! Secondly, I think you two are some of the most down-to-earth people on this platform (independent of the fact that you have day jobs-I think the same of Jenna & Julien, and they’re full-time youtubers lol).

Haha.
yeah its called code switching
emperor-chipotle yes!! super common especially in terms of speech and mannerisms and even more so with for example some african americans or some gay men who feel the need to (consciously or subconsciously) act different around a group of white people or straight men or a professional setting, etc.

Literally just finished the last podcast on Spotify perfect timing!
Ben's comments about making friends as adults really hit home for me. 😆
I can't express how much I appreciate Simply Podlogical. I always come out feeling so much more grounded and hopeful at the same time. Thank you Ben and Cristine 💖
this podcast is packed with incredibly helpful information, especially as a fellow soci lover. thank you so, so much!
Coding in R is fun. I love how it presents the data, it's my favorite part.
I’m gonna go read Cristine’s papers now, I’m struggling with analyzing statistics for my thesis.
I’ve been listening to your podcasts whilst working out and I’ve found that it calms me but also helps me train for longer and in a more relaxed attitude, thanks so much and keep doing them!!! ❤️❤️❤️
An hour long podcast basically describing to people that when you have money you can decide what you want to do, including work. I love that you guys are sharing this stuff. It's so great to have intelligent and realistic discussions of what people's lives can look like on and off youtube.
Cristine is such an inspiration to me. She’s a hard worker and a very nice person overall.
This is my favorite podcast they’ve ever made. It was really interesting and real, it’s the kind of content I don’t see often in my recommended.
This was such a great video podcast. Please please consider doing more of this. I feel so full and educated after watching this episode.
As far as living at the least violent time, this is true! Part of the collective anxiety over this is simply due to globalization and the internet. Yes we are living in the least violent times. However, we are viewing and hearing more violence than ever before.
You leave out politics. Some parties get votes through fear of The Other.
@@recoil53 politics has nothing to do about that lol
@@Cheystation Politics has a lot to do with how dangerous we perceive others to be, which is why conservatives always say how others are bringing in crime.
And it works, as in America the suburban mom vote is often won by scaring them about the world.
As a Canadian who is also a data nerd I just want to thank you both for the work you (and to thank your whole team for their work). I know sometimes people don't see the value in these research papers that 'only academics read' (or so the stereotype can go) but I'm glad we have good data we can look at our society through.
You are so inspiring. Showing us you can follow your passions while also having a sustainable life.
My favorite episode so far - I’m in the crim field too - I’m an investigator - and I love it. Everything you said resonates so clearly with me.
yay new podcast to help my workday go by :)
having a day job is what makes you guys relatable and still in touch with the world. oftentimes, when youtubers go exclusive they sometimes lose touch of what's happening in the world outside of their lives. just keep doing what you're doing, i love you two (well, 4 including m and z)
As a Postdoctoral reseacher, I always advice to the Master's students I supervise the same: "Don't do (or it is not needed to do) a Ph.D. if you don't want to stay in Academia or if the job you want to apply later on doesn't require it"
I'm set to graduate from my Master of Public Administration program next month, and you won't believe how happy I am hearing my RUclips role models talking about government matters and the importance of grad school and how passionate you are about doing meaningful work even if it doesn't pay a lot of money. It's all extremely relatable and very personal to me. Thank you for talking about this!
