Hello from north east scotland, have a 2001 sv650s in blue, standard with a scorpion end can,had the bike 20 years with no problems at all Great bikes CHEERS FROM BONNIE SCOTLAND
You called this bike small bike fun, big bike performance, middle weight naked. absolutely perfect. YES. This was the first bike I ever rode. I LOVE this bike. Cheap, easy to handle and maintain, easy to learn on, lots of fun when you are skilled, forgiving if you are new and timid, aftermarket parts make it so the short and tall will be comfortable on. No matter how you ride it, after you have a slip on exhaust, you will get more than 42mpg (I also had quick accel sprockets), was cheap to insure, had tons of upgrade and customization options. Like you said, it can do anything, it has been used as city travel, track, cross country, commuting on the super slab, canyon riding, DIRT BIKING! (someone transplanted dirt bike suspension on one). I LOVE THIS BIKE! The fact you can upgrade damn near everything on it means that you can start off with a $1600 bike and end up with a bike that has $5k of parts and work into it as a show bike, OR you can just put tires and oil and filters in and have a bike for $1600-2000 (as long as willing to turn a mild to moderate amount of wrench )
Great bike, I had the S version back in the day with the small fairing. Set the forks up for my weight with new springs, oil etc and put an old gixxer rear shock, turned a great bike into an awesome bike
@@eoyourmom It was a bit of an animal, but in all the time I owned it, it only shook its head a couple of times, and I was asking a bit much of it. Bit of a wake up call though 👍🏼
@@Saddlebags73 I properly sorted the suspension on my sv650 just because I hated the wallowing it was giving me in the canyons. 05 gsxr1k front end with 09 r1 oem brembo master cylinder, and an 06 ninja 636 rear shock. it was actually difficult to upset it's suspension after that upgrade.
I just bought this exact bike! Black 2002 suzuki sv650 w 20k miles. Its winter in chicago so haven't got to ride it much yet. Can't wait for 50°F weather. I also own a 2016 yamaha sr400 that i love. Insurance is $130/yr for both together!
@@iRidetas i have already Made the R6 throttle swap. IT IS A MUST, U NEED 2! It makes the bike way more fun and responsive. Im not a fan of "fast" bikes. It just feels better. Was $8 on ebay. U might pay 30 with shipping, its worh $250
Great review. Where the video started looked soooo familiar...I was thinking Railton/Sheffield area. But it took me 'til I spotted the Paradise (Mole Creek) sign to be sure (".). All good riding country...I used to live at Weegena
So my brother from another hemisphere besides our Royal Enfield singles we have Suzuki L-Twins in common ( mine is 08 DL 1000 ) I agree with everything you said about your Suzuki my V-Strom is the 43 rd. Bike I 've owned in my 64 years and it will be at my estate sale when I'm gone my favorite bike EVER . Ride safe mate.
Awesome the suzuki L twin is such a great engine. This particular bike was a pretty good pick up im so happy with it. Sounds like we have the same taste in bikes my friend! 👍👍👍
Great review!! Is Dug a little green and chrome with jealousy? Thanks for all you showed me on your Enfield, I have modified my 2012 Bullet C5 Desert Storm using a lot of your suggestions. You're an asset to the motorcycle world. If I could figure it out I'd post a pic of my "Sargent".. My son just got an Interceptor so sticking with the REs.
Haha means he doesnt get ridden quite as hard!!!! Thanks for the kind words. Ive got a few more enfield videos left and glad i could be a small influence for you! If youd like to show me your desert storm easiest way would be facebook.com/iRidetas
I was going to buy this bike the other day.. Out here in Los Angeles.. 22k miles on it, beautiful.. Same year.. Guy wanted $2300 US for it. So I go look at it.. He brings it out, starts it up, and it immediately coughs... So he has to rev it from shutting off it seemed like...So he revs it, warms it up.. Then he takes it up and down the block a few times, it sounds and moves AMAZING !!! He brings it back to the curb, parks...let's it idle.. Then that bike started acting WEIRD !!! It did not sound like a normal idle. Seemed like it twitched, or glitched. Like an irregular heartbeat.. High and low.. Once he shut it off, I looked around the bike again, still in GREAT shape, beautiful...but then I saw like neon blue / green caked on coolant on the bottom area of the bike, like a leak of some sort that hardened. I dunno, I really wanted the bike but those two issues made me walk away....
Also keep in mind, these things are rather simple to fix up! I just bought a 2001 as my first bike at 23k miles and its had it's small cosmetic issues (understandable at 19 years old) but I love it. And that weird idle is cause the bike has to warm up a good bit especially if it's been cold out. And it'll jump a bit during the warming process. Once it gets to temp the idle should calm down and you can close the choke.
Nice video man. I wanna get the 2nd gen one, but someone offered me a great deal for one exactly like yours. How do you like the carbs? Kinda wanna get the 2nd gen for the injection, would love to hear your opinion. Greetings from the Netherlands
would starting on a non abs bike be a big mistake as a beginner? im looking at the gladius 650 lams and need a bike for everyday riding as my main mode of transportation. or should i start with abs, then grab one of those sv650 1st gen once on my open license?
Mate people have been learning on non abs bikes for generations. I had a abs duke 390 and hated the abs and used to turn it off. Go with the bike you like! Cheers
Looking at a lot of bikes that I never even paid attention to when young so many different bikes in new England bikes20-40 years old with no miles all need carb work for starters must be a totally different story in warm states
Hi, just bought a yellow 2000 S model - less than 12k (miles, that is). Fairings removed and Fat Bar Renthals fitted by previous owner. So yes, I would really appreciate/enjoy you sharing your opinions/knowledge/views on the SV.
With a fork swap its still a miatta but with coil overs!!! Id personally go down the route of thicker oil and cartridges first. I dont think many people could out ride the stock set up on the street to be honest. But the fork swap does look cool!
@@suprliteeasier start, more throttle response , less winter maintenance, better mpg. My sr400 has fuel injection and its a single w kick-start. I love my 2000 sv650. I daily commute on her. It's such a great riding bike for everything.
Couldnt agree more! 👍👍
Aah!nice Taz!sold mine a week ago.Miss it already.Exactly the same year as yours!Loved it mate.Engines are bulletproof!!

I used to own this bikes big bro, a 97’ TL1000s. I kept that beast for 8 years, and lived to tell the tale!
I love the power delivery of v-twins.
Yup, it is a great engine design for sure! Very linear!
Damn you owned a widow maker? The TL1000s had a wonky suspension that made for death wobbles. The engine must have been really nice though.

I have another guy who has said that. Im guessing kentucky is a beautiful place then!
I still have my k10 sv... Amazing bike I tell you 🙏
Different intro & end 👍 Soon as i saw the industrial frame look i thought Duke. Congrats m8 2K, good stuff.

They are great!
Just bought myself a k1 sv650 as a project bike. Carbs need some work but should be a good little bike after that

I got this bike recently. I'm curious, whats your fuel consumption? Mine is 7l/100km
