  • In 1996, the whole country was supposed to see Notre Dame-Texas on ABC except for one station in Pittsburgh who had other plans.
(I do not own any of the footage. All footage is used strictly for educational purposes. All footage belongs to the University of Notre Dame, the University of Texas, Florida State University, Penn State University, Temple University, The Big Ten Conference, American Athletic Conference, ESPN, and CBS)

and quite frankly I enjoyed watching the Nittany Lions pulverize Temple while emptying the entire bench.

It certianly is bizarre that the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh had a Big East package given that ABC aired a lot of games in the noon slot. But the bigger issue was that the Notre Dame/Texas didn't go to anyone on the West Coast --- ABC aired Oregon/Washington State to the west coast viewers after their 3:30 est games.

I know the West Coast used to get screwed with those early games. I know they were still doing the West Coast-only games in 2006. I have a DVD of the 2006 Nevada-San Jose State game on ABC lol

Penn State did not win the national championship in 1994. Nebraska finished first in both the AP and Coaches.
