      That's like assuming that if a film takes place somewhere or the cast speaks a certain language it takes place there. World War Z took place in America with a largely American cast but was film in Scotland 😂 I don't see the confusion in asking where this took place. A lot of scenery shots aren't on location at times.

      @@BlackGirlMarvel My point was more about how Americans think everything has something to do with America... Also, It wouldn't make sense as would be a waste of money to travel to America to film a story that literally starts in London... they had everything they needed in the UK. I was just arguing common sense, not that language/accent = location.

    0:29 there are 8 movies... there were 7 books and the last book was split into 2 movies
    14:46 you may not know it, but the actor that plays the goblin in this scene is the late Verne Troyer - Mini Me from Austin Powers!
    15:45 in the books/movies, different wands have different impacts. They have different strengths and weaknesses and levels of loyalty. A wand's important features is the type of wood, the length and flexibility vs rigidity, and the magical beast property that makes up the wand's magic core: phoenix feather, dragon heartstring, or unicorn hair. Each property affects the performance of the wand and how it meshes with the witch or wizard.
    16:08 everybody knows his parents.
    18:43 no, the muggles don't see it. Every magical location is spelled so that muggles do not notice or retain anything magical. And if they do happen to see, then the Ministry of Magic finds out and has their memories of it erased. But mostly, they have the urge to look away and ignore it. Only magical beings can see it.
    20:04 no, it's not another plain of existence ... lol... its Scotland. Hogwarts is in Scotland. Harry and most of the characters live in England. The train is taking them from England - London, I believe - to a remote, spelled area of Scotland. Hogwarts is also spelled so that muggles can not see it. The train I'm not sure... it's probably spelled. ... and Wakanda is not another world! lol It's in Africa and it's shielded from detection/entry.
    22:37 oh, just you wait. Hermione is the true GOAT of this series and it won't take you very long at all to figure that out.
    23:45 oh, wait, you guys don't know your house or wand?! I figured since you've played the games that you've been sorted!YOU CAN GET SORTED BY THE HAT!!! You should def get on the Pottermore (Wizarding World) website and take your Wand and House quizes!! Not the Patronus... not yet. That doesn't come up until the 3rd movie so don't take that one yet.
    32:47 yeah, Draco has very likely already learned to fly. His family are rich (and racist) and don't give a fuck about rules.
    39:00 yeah, you're not likely to find much diversity in Harry Potter. One, because these movies started coming out in 2001, before there was a social push to have more diversity in media. and Two, because Hogwarts is a school for kids across the United Kingdom and Ireland (UK if you didn't know is England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. So... lots of mostly white people.) There are other schools across the world for the kids in those regions.
    1:01:57 and 1:04:11 so the movie doesn't do a very good job of explaining the whole decay thing. When Dumbledor says that Harry's mom sacrificing herself for Harry and brining up "old magic"... what isn't explained is that the old magic essentially acts as a forcefield around Harry which harms Voldemort when Voldemort touches Harry. And because Voldemort was existing inside Quirrell, when Harry touches him it hurts Quirrell's body instead. There will be more on this coming later but the movies don't give the full explanation that's in the books. The movie just says "love".... but it's magic. The very oldest... a magic born out of a mothers love and devotion for her child.
    1:05:37 well, remember, Harry, Ron, and Hermione cost Gryffindor 150 points when they were caught outside at night - Prof McGonagall took 50 points each. They don't have individual points, just House points... so that 150 that Harry won for Gryffindor was then lost.
    Final note, I highly recommend the books! The movies get most of it... maybe around 70-75% of the story - but there are whole character/plot arcs left out of the movies... and a lot of what is here gets a throw away line that most completely miss. The movies are great but they definitely don't fully cover or explain the whole story.
    Some things you should know about the houses:
    Hufflepuff: Kindness - Loyalty - Hardworking - Humility
    Hufflepuffs are the most unassuming house. They don't get attention because they don't crave attention. Hufflepuffs are the backbones of the wizarding world. They are imo, the best house. They are the ride-or-dies. They are loyal, hard-working, caring, and modest. They achieve great things but unlike the other houses - they don't constantly boast those achievements. They are the healers (nurses and doctors, basically), teachers, herbologists, mediators, veterinarians, and fill other roles where they can do the greater good - but behind the scenes. They value hard work, friendship, family, and peace - but are not above becoming a soldier if its necessary. They probably stay out of politics but I imagine they would fill the equivalent role of a beat-cop in wizarding law enforcement. They would def be the ones to de-escalate the situation to avoid bloodshed while the others would shoot first and ask questions later.
    Gryffindor: Bravery - Honor - Determination - Chivalry
    Gryffindors are the most popular house - which, of course they are. Not only are our main set of characters in that house, Gryffindor stands for courage, honor, and chivalry - all great qualities to have.... usually. Gryffindors are basically the popular group. They are the jocks, leaders, and champions. They tend to fill roles in government and law enforcement, likely on the front lines. Where Slytherins are sneaky, Gryffindors are right in your path. Where Ravenclaws are more mindfully focused on study or art and what new things they can learn or create, Gryffindors are present and grounded. Where Hufflepuffs are unassuming, pacifistic, and keep to the background, Gryffindors are bold and brass and loud. They are the heroes and saviors - but they can also be SO VERY arrogant and overly prideful.
    Ravenclaw: Intelligence - Creativity - Wit - Drive
    There are two types of Ravenclaws, imo... the brainiacs and the artists. They are prodigies. They are the scientists, historians, teachers, reporters, and likely fill analytical and communications roles in politics and law enforcement. They value intelligence and creativity. Both Harry and Hermione would have done well in this house, I think.
    Slytherin: Ambition - Cunning - Resourceful
    While dark wizards are proportionally more Slytherin than the other houses, not every Slytherin is evil. Slytherins tend to be a mix of ambitious, selfish, sneaky, and cunning - for some, this does develop into a charming and manipulative personality but others find a way to use that drive for the greater good. Slytherins often grow up to be the politicians, teachers, lawyers, and like Severus, spies and whatever they would call an undercover cop. Many Slytherins come from rich, affluent, and "pure" families where they are raised to go bad and continue the evil their families commit (think of it like White Nationalists raising their children to be White Nationalists because its pretty much the same ) but some do manage to break away from that.

      @jimthecactus7425 7 месяцев назад

      Honestly I feel like people are way too rigid in how they put specific traits onto the houses. Obviously they have their overall "theme" but all the characters are a lot more than what you would say they are because of their house.

      Not much diversity?
      I'd say the Hogwarts students are fairly representative to British society. There's Lee Jordan, Dean Thomas, the Patil sisters, Cho Chang among those students who are central to the story.
      In a wider sense the movies discuss the topic in many ways, adding all kinds of creatures and mixes of creatures, focusing on inclusiveness and understanding. You'll see 😊

    I feel like a lot of people think being sorted into houses is just a Harry Potter thing. When I was in high school we got sorted in to one of four houses in first year and they were named after historic places around Scotland (where I’m from) We didn’t have a sorting hat obviously but we did have a common room for each house. I don’t know if other places have houses like we did I just assumed it’s normal. Must be a Scottish thing if not.

    The wizarding world and the none magical world exist in the same dimension and planet. No one is traveling through portals to another world. The reason most muggles don't see magic happening around them is sometimes attributed to protective spells having been places on objects or places so that regular none magical folks can't see or notice them. For example, Hogwarts is a massive castle located in the highlands of Scotland. But when muggles come across it they only see old ancient empty castle ruins. If muggles find themselves getting too close to it then suddenly the muggles will start to think they have someplace important they have to go to that they previously forgotten about.
    In rare other cases when a muggle happens to witness magic by mistake, the local wizarding government called The Ministry of Magic will come and magically erase that particular memory from the muggle's mind.
    Certain cases are allowed only to a certain extent, like in the case of a wizard or witch having been born from a muggle family or is being raised by a muggle family like Harry and the Dursleys for example. But even then the wizarding child is not allowed to perform magic even in front of their muggle family even though their muggle family members know about their relative being born a witch or wizard and that they attend Hogwarts.
    The Wizarding communities consider it vital that their existence remain a secret for their protection incase for example muggles decide to bring back the witch trials and start burning wizards at the stake again among many other reasons as well.

    Everyone shouts at Harry and Ron to use spells forgetting that they *just* started learning spells. They only know one or 2 and have barely practiced them. 😂
    Most of what Slytherin pulled in the Quidditch game earned them penalties in the book. So yes there are fouls, penalties and the equivalent of a free throw. Catching the snitch ends the game and earns you 150 points so you usually win but if the opposing team is up more than 150 points on your team you could still lose.
    The movies (even the studio sets) were filmed in England and Scotland.

    They have 7 years of studying in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
    The school takes place in Scotland.
    And yes, Harry goes back to his aunt, uncle and cousin.
    Only thing I'm going to say about the movies to come, is that they get gradually darker and more mature.
    But they're still very magical and keep you interested. 😁

      Corrections: Some scenes are indeed filmed in Scotland. However. Many scenes are filmed in Ainwick Castle in the North East England.
      They flip scenery and interiors a lot, though, so some scenes are filmed in Scotland.
      That said: you're NOT wrong. Since the school is canonically set in Scotland. But the scenes for the movies weren't exclusively filmed there.
      That's where my correction comes in.

    Some people feel that Slytherin was robbed of an earned win of house points at the end, but what they don't consider is that Snape, as head of Slytherin, has a bad habit of deducting points from the other houses, especially Gryffindor, for the most trivial excuses, and awarding undeserved points to Slytherin whenever possible. Dumbledore and the other teachers, being aware of this, often throw extra points to their own houses. It's really not a very good system, but a lot of customs in the Wizarding World are not what a fair society would do.

    • @calebsawyer0719
      @calebsawyer0719 19 дней назад +1

      I think I'm starting to remember the points given to all four Houses at the end of this movie. In the scene where Snape began teaching the students about potion making, Harry actually wrote down everything that was spewing out of Snape's mouth such as "putting a stopper in death", and deducting the points from the Gryffindor House when Harry didn't know the answers to the questions Snape asked him about such as "Where to find a bezoar." This is how I remembered the point system in this movie, based on the points each House of Hogwarts received:
      Gryffindor: 4th place, with 312 points
      Hufflepuff: 3rd place, with 352 points
      Ravenclaw: 2nd place, with 426 points
      Slytherin: 1st place, 472 points
      First thing that came to mind at the end, was that
      Dumbledore gave the first 50 points to Hermione because of her intellect, giving the House of Gryffindor from 312 to 362 points. The second 50 points were given to Ronald Weasley, due to his ability to play the Wizard's Chess game in the 3rd Floor, boosting the current points from 362 to 412, 100 points doubled by 50 adding them together. Then third, he gave Harry, plus the Gryffindor House, 60 points because of his courage to stand up to Professor Quirrell after he took off his cloth on his head, revealing Voldemort's head, in the back of his head, bringing the point total tying with Slytherin, with 472. Then last, 10 points to Neville for standing up to Hermione, Harry, and Ron, after they were stopped by him, in order to get to the 3rd Floor, which they were told not to enter, and find the location of the Sorcerer's Stone. I think that Dumbledore, showed sympathy for the three, and had the point system rigged to begin with after the trio were caught breaking the rules, giving them the 170 points they deserved to cheat Slytherin out of the House Cup. That's what I believe.

    Welcome to the incrediblely wonderful rabbit hole of a ride called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Enjoy it well. 😊
    This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses;
    "Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
    But don't judge on what you see,
    I'll eat myself if you can find
    A smarter hat than me.
    You can keep your bowlers black,
    Your top hats sleek and tall,
    For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
    And I can cap them all.
    There's nothing hidden in your head
    The Sorting Hat can't see,
    So try me on and I will tell you
    Where you ought to be.
    You might belong in Gryffindor,
    Where dwell the brave at heart,
    Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
    Set Gryffindors apart;
    You might belong in Hufflepuff,
    Where they are just and loyal,
    Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
    And unafraid of toil;
    Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
    if you've a ready mind,
    Where those of wit and learning,
    Will always find their kind;
    Or perhaps in Slytherin
    You'll make your real friends,
    Those cunning folks use any means
    To achieve their ends.
    So put me on! Don't be afraid!
    And don't get in a flap!
    You're in safe hands (though I have none)
    For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
    🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️🪄✨⚡🖤
    BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor and my brother was sorted into Slytherin in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website. The website was created by the Sony company and the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. I had to take a fun and special personality test to find out what house I am in.
    Go go Gryffindor!
    ❤💛❤🦁🏰🪄👍

    There are 7 books/8 movies (since the 7th book is divided into 2 movies because there are just so many important details they couldn't leave out) in the Harry Potter series. The students are 1st Years at age 11& go to school til at least 6th year. They aren't required to, but most stay & finish 7th Year also. In wizard society kids become "of age" (adults) at 17, so it is their choice if they want to take advantage of all the really advanced classes available in 7th year, which I guess is equivalent to getting an Associates or Bachelors Degree in muggle society, depending on what area of study you concentrate on.
    Well really there is an 8th Harry Potter book. The book/play, The Cursed Child, which follows up & finishes Harry Potter's story 19 years later. A lot of people grumble about it because Rowling didn't fully write it herself. She wrote out an outline of all the plot points & important details, then let ghostwriters finish it, putting it in play script form. (That did make it slightly annoying to me having to constantly read stage directions & such when reading it, but I knew I'd never get a chance to see the play in person.) I liked the story myself.
    There there's the 3 prequel movies, the Fantastic Beasts series. These go back & tell the story of several characters including Dumbledore & Newt Schammander who had to take down Grindlewald, the evil wizard that tried to take over the world before Voldemort did. So that storyline takes place before World War 1.

    Ok, in the stories Hogwarts is just 1 of 11 schools worldwide, 1 of 3 in Europe. Hogwarts school is located in the Scottish Highlands, & serves the students whose families live in the UK & surrounding area of Europe. So, the students are (just estimating here) about 95% white, being from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, & Finland. That area of Europe. In book/movie 4 the other 2 European schools in France (where Spain, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, etc all go) & Bulgaria (Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Greece & Turkey, etc probably all go there) come into the storyline, as the 3 European schools have a traditional competition that happens every so many years, the Tri-Wizard Cup.
    So the amount of black & Asian (Russian, Chinese, Indian, etc) kids you'll see at Hogwarts will be proportional to the population of those races living in that part of Europe. Not many, but they're there.

    Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter.
    The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
    The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells.
    The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch.
    And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess.
    Side notes:
    The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits:
    Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry.
    Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. (I'm a proud Hufflepuff)
    Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
    Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.
    Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward.
    Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight, so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra.
    At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.

    All these films are set in Britain. Some of the interiors are Gloucester cathedral for example and Hogwarts is Anwick castle. Harry has to return to the Dursley's for at least 2 weeks per year because there is a protective spell on the house of the type 'blood magic' It not only protects Harry but the Dursley's as well, and they know this, which is why Harry is an unwelcome guest! Filtch the caretaker is unpleasant because he's a 'squib': he had magical parents but he is non-magical. Hermione is the opposite: her parents are non-magical hence why she feels compelled to excel. Harry often stays with the Weesley's in later films.

    The one thing most people don't know unless they read the books is that Filch the Caretaker at Hogwarts is a Squib. A Squib is a person from a Wizarding family that has no magical abilities. In the Wizarding community they are really looked down on and often treated as bad as elves if not worse. So hes mean because he's probably been looked down on and mistreated by wizards his whole life. Its also why he is always trying to prove himself to the pure-blood families. He wants to be seen as worthy and equal by them.

    • @Masq1980
      @Masq1980 5 месяцев назад

    Enjoying your reaction. It's my first time watching your channel. The author of Harry Potter is British thus the characters and setting are British.
    Mist of it was filmed at a studio just north of London but also there were many actual buildings including castles and a lecture hall at Oxford University that were used or copied to become parts of the set. The lecture hall was the dining hall in Harry Potter world. If you're ever in the London area they do tours of a lot of sites from the films.
    The Hogwarts Express scenes use an actual train. It is still being used in Scotland today. It's historically called the Jacobite train.
    As for the diversity in the cast you will see it increases as the story develops. The British populations diversity levels are fairly similar to those of the US, the makeup is different than USA because they don't have the Hispanic influence like we do.
    There are several online tests where you can go and see what house you're put into. I use the one that's on JK Rawlings website to find out that I am a a Ravenclaw.
    BTW, I recently turned 69. I have two grown kids age 31 & 33. Harry Potter book series was something we shared together as a family when HP became popular in the US We read the books together at times.
    The movie premieres were big deals. The local theaters used to do midnight premieres the night before the official premiere. You can pay a little extra and go stand in line and see the movie first. We did that several times as a family and it was so much fun.
    I hope you will continue this series.
