1:35:08 Son Goku, in Japanese, is written with the same characters as Son Wukong, in Chinese. From the moment they said his name in Dragon Ball episode 1 Goku was a monkey boy.
Also, Son is his name. His family name, yes, and he's always with friends, so people don't call him Son. But it's nice to know, especially when some of the abridged fliller characters call him "Mr Son".
Tbf, if Krillin were real in our world, he would be virtually unstoppable. 😂 and he is technically the strongest human on earth.

The monkey thing is actually chosen for a reason. Goku, in the original DB, was loosely based on Sung Woo Kong. He had his flying cloud, the power pole which could change sizes, and he was a shape shifting monkey. However, in DBZ all of those thing get abandoned as Akira Toriyama decided he wanted to take the story in a new direction so this fight here with Vegeta is his way of closing off that thread once and for all without retcons
They didn't draw the tears on Piccolo's face. That's from the anime. Piccolo shed tears for Gohan as he crossed over to the next dimension.
Goku lost his tail plenty of times growing up, but when he went to Kami, he removed it with magic so it wouldn't regrow anymore.
If you guys do the Freezer Saga I would recommend watching the First Kai Episode before doing the actual saga. The Kai abridged episode act as two things. 1) it is a recap for the sagas. 2) they have added jokes that we either missed opportunity or because they have a better payoff.
And doubt forget the songs
They already watched all this stuff like 6 months ago they are just reposting it condensed to sagas. A bit wierd they left in the silent reaction but guess easier than editing or redoing video

Fun fact: the german voice actor of spongebob is also the first german voice of vegeta in the saiyan saga. Once they went to nake he got a diffrent voice for the better. But just imagine u watch some epic dbz but then the main villain sounds like someone who us befriended to a sea star and making krabby patties

It is kind of stupid how they don't correct misconceptions the upper right guy gets. Like everyone doesn't fly, especially at start. And ya know, reasons why Goku was doing stuff on Kai's planet such as gravity and training and stuff. Or how stupidly hard it would be to get the dragon balls without bulma's genius. They just talk about her being rich.
Also they just continue the meme joke of Krillin being not respected, not actual to the shows reality. Or how they imply the super fast cuts to ppl losing or dying isnt an exageration.
Or the badmouthing of Goku not caring about his child. The guy is dead and training to stop the aliens from killing all of Earth including his family. Its not like he could have done anything for or to interact with Gohan during all this. They aren't acknowledging that everything is overly exagerated, acting like everything shown here is accurate. There is tons of hints of these character traits in the show, but the abridged dials them to 11, and they are letting that guy think that is how it actually is.
I still recommend that you watch Hellsing Ultimate Abridged! It is by the same people, and is absolutely fantastic! It is also shorter, ao you don't need to worry about it taking up too much time!
Goku's backstory being retconned from "you were sent to earth to take it over as a baby but hit your head and forgot" to "your dad sent you to some nowhere planet because he was sure frieza was about to destroy your planet and he wanted to save something for once instead of destroying" is weird to me cause like, both are good, but why retcon it?
Boons reaction to Gohan transforming in ep 4 is one of the best reactions you did this show

It'd be really cool to see you guys do Z, but even with Kai, it's super long and would probably take up a lot of your time.
I don't think it'd be too confusing to just start Super instead, it starts with a quick recap anyway. 131 episodes, 3 movies, and one of the funniest filler episodes in the whole franchise.
So the reason why Saiyans are all modeled after monkeys is because of Sun Wukong. OG Dragon Ball started out as a weird twist of Journey to the West which follows Sun Wukong, who also was a monkey that had a staff that can expand and shrink it's size at demand, who also rides on a cloud called the Flying Nimbus. It's one of the more famous Chinese novels which a lot of works still take inspiration from to this day. Goku's a saiyan so naturally the monkey traits would be shared amongst the saiyans as well.
However becoming a giant ape isn't something Wukong does. I think Toriyama huffed something when he got to that part in the OG Dragon Ball when he came up with that.
The original Sun Wukong had the ability to shapeshift into animals and grow larger.
Oozaru is literally just merging 2 of the originals known abilities into one.
Vegeta cannot be king because to be king you have to have a domain (planet in this case) since there is no planet, the title cannot be inherited.

Dragon Ball was initially based on Journey to the West, Goku specifically being based on Sun Wukong, who was a monkey. Son Goku is the translation into Japanese. Hence, giant monkey. OSP has a series recapping it going on if you ever want to check it out.

Namek Saga next
No, Goku is NOT this stupid in the original show. He is however, ridicules naive. He literally raised himself alone in the woods since he was about 4 years old hundreds of miles away from the nearest human being. He didn't meet another living being until the start of the OG Dragon Ball series when he was 11 and that's when he started traveling the world. Because of this, while Goku is smart and extremely well trained as a warrior, he has essentially no experience with the world at large outside of fighting tournaments and still has the naive outlook of a child. Its why he will do ridiculous things like letting an enemy go after beating them, hoping that they will learn their lesson. Because that's what happens in the stories. If someone makes him a promise, Goku will automatically assume they are telling the truth because everyone knows lying is wrong. Goku never had the social interactions growing up that lets people understand nuances.
Goku only lets people go because it's "the right thing" in the anime and especially the dub.
In the actual manga, it's so he can fight them again later. It's just as dumb, but for a different reason.
