  • The Basics of Burning and Exposing A Screen Print Frame.
Hello I’m Cam welcome to the screen print training videos series today we are talking about burning screens.
The process of buring a screen is pretty straight forward.
We place the film positive on the glass.
Then lay a screen coated with emulsion over the film.
Below the glass is a uv light source, we have a 50 watt led about 3 feet away.
The uv light hardens the areas of coated mesh not covered by the black on the film positive.
After it is burned you spray the screen with water and the areas of the screen not hit with light wash away to create a detailed stencil in the mesh.
Pretty simple right? Well Theres a little more to it that that, as a printer theres abunch of small technical choices that you have to make to burn the proper screen for the job your printing.
The point of this training vid is to demonstrate the basics and dive into the details of thoses steps.

Hey man, what kind of emulsion are you using? Any coating suggestions? My image might be under exposed if the emulsion peels off, correct? Idk :-/ haven’t had problems before, but I just switched over to clear transparencies.

Hey wondering if you could help me? I have just used a thin layer of Diazo screen print emulsion and exposed using a 250 Watt lamp for 10 minutes, as instructed. The image was burnt into the screen, however i really struggled when washing my negative out. After 10 minutes of pressurised water; nothing. The lighter green negative was on the screen, but it would just not wash out. I am going to try the process again but leave my screen exposing for longer, maybe an hour. My image is a bitmap photograph, and has lots of tiny dots, maybe this has an effect?

    • @dainisvanko8250
      @dainisvanko8250 2 года назад

Got the same question, 55lines per inch!? So how do you calculate that? So most thin line?
So if max is 55lines per 1 inch, so if you have 2mm line, then 55lines divided by 25-(mm in inch ) is 2,2lines per 1m, so if letter of line is 2mm so then 4,4 lines per inch? So 4,4. X 4,5 = 19.8 mash? 🤯🔫 buum fried brain 😂😂 how do you know what number to do with 4,5
If i have a 2mm letter or 5mm letters 20mm letters? How do you get lines per inch Them?

I don't do screen printing, Iam an airbrush artist I paint electric guitars and bass. I cut paint masks on a vinyl plotter I have also used waterslide decals used them long ago on models before we could print are own lol. I seen this calca mikly white printing film 50 sheets 16
Bucks 8. 5 x 11 figured maybe I could use it as stand alone to transfer graphics to a painted guitar body. I've only had this stuff a day haven't tried it figured I'd do some research. So did bite off a bit more than I should. I know what screen printing is T shirts hats any thing that is crisp and multi layers and I know real quality model decals are done with silks screen printing. Other than that Iam a half ass guitar and bass player amature luthier. And well a l painter 😂

It's like you read my mind....i woke up today to start my first print project and i am at the point where i am ready to burn screens.....i have a four color press, 156 screens and used four color separation to make my negatives. Am i on the right track? I have always been an airbrush artist, I've tried vinyl and now i am excited to get into screen printing. I don't have top notch equipment...built an exposure unit with a storage underneath that has a bathroom vent fan to remove humidity and a small space heater...also built my washout booth from a utility sink and corrugated plastic. do you have any advice to offer?

Thanks that's good to know...i'm an artist by nature so being able to print my creations to garment i'm sure i'm gonna fall in love with it....minus the trials and tribulations. Looks like it all worked out pretty well for you. You do an awesome job explaining the processes....keep doing what you're doing. Whether you know or not it certainly helps encourage a beginner to take the leap and gives the confidence to be able to pull it off knowing that you are getting advice from someone experienced. I'm in a city where there is really no direct competition and i have a big client base from the airbrushing I've done over the years. I like that you are real people and act like some of the people i hang with.....not some company rep moving and sounding automated and scripted....keep up the excellent work my guy...looking forward to more videos.

Strange question, I know Phoenix area has pretty hard water, have you ever noticed anything with the quality of water causing mineral deposits in the emulsion when you're soaking them or even washing out?

funny you should bring that up, Yes we deal with it all the time. That is why we resorted to using compressed air to dry the screens.

I'm just starting my new adventure. I have a 4 station Hopkins press. I made an exposure box with 8 bright led lights. I'm looking at a Tecktongdh 2400 cabin fiber 110v flash dryer. Is the dryer Ok? How many PSI pressure washer should i get?

I bought an Epson WF-7720. Ink Jet transparencies can be bought on only less than $100 for 100 of them. Printer settings set to print on Photo Matte Paper.

@@imprintprintingco.9250 I used a WF - 7720 but get quite cracked ink and get some unprinted lines in it, do you think that’s because of the film I’m using ?
