I had the same thought…I was growing small tomatoes myself when I saw the first video…they grow so tall but I had to move them when they made flowers and the flowers just died without making any fruits and then the plants died too…so at least this video showed me how would they look like…thanks
@@khalidalmhrzi8704 the reason your flowers died was probably that they needed a bee to pollinate them so they could turn into fruit, but I’m not sure🤔
For anyone wondering: The plant is left inside with very little light so the plant is extremely leggy, thin and fragile. The pot is too small for a plant that size (plus planter probably didn't fertilize the plant), thus there was not enough nutrition nor water for the plant to keep all or most of the tomatoes. The plant gave all its energy to the few tomatoes it had on the plant to ensure it had off-springs. Clearly, the plant gave up putting energy into its leaves before letting the few tomatoes die. This was a time lapse of an unhealthy tomato plant but it shows you the process of its growth.
Well, add some moody music and your description with a soothing voice, and we are having a very tragic short movie of a plant fighting for the life of it's quasi-children. Netflix show coming soon.
@@Bill-lt5qf Yes, Etiolation in plants is a natural phenomenon and is simply a plant’s way of reaching for a light source. If you have ever started seeds without sufficient lighting, then you have seen how the seedlings grow rather spindly with a long, abnormally thin, pale stem. This is an example of etiolation in plants. We generally know it as plant legginess. Etiolation is the result of hormones called auxins. Auxins are transported from the actively growing tip of the plant downwards, resulting in the suppression of lateral buds. They stimulate proton pumps in the cell wall which, in turn, increases the acidity of the wall and triggers expansin, an enzyme that weakens the cell wall. While etiolation increases the chances that a plant will reach the light, it results in less than desirable symptoms. Etiolation plant problems such as abnormal lengthening of stems and leaves, weakened cell walls, elongated internodes with fewer leaves, and chlorosis may all occur.
I was a heirloom tomato farmer for a few years with over 15 different variety’s… They grow pretty fast. If you want more fruit make sure to grow them pretty close to each other(about 12in) in the biggest pots you can if not directly in soil. With as much sun as possible.
@@dodo2829 You want a decent grow light or even several. Normal indoor lighting won't do. Without sufficient light the seedlings will become too leggy or stretched out and you might get other problems. If they're overwatered, or the top layer of the potting mix stays too damp because of poor drainage or insufficient light the plants can also damp off or get root rot. I use two of the four-foot t12 flourescent fixtures that you can find in your local hardware store. each with two led grow bulbs and I have the little seedlings up on a table so they can be closer to the light. Before I rigged up the extra lighting I was having trouble with seedlings dying off or stretching out a few days after germinating. You can use other types of bulbs and fixtures too but you probably want to buy bulbs marketed as "grow lights". Some light fixtures might require self assembly depending on what you buy. Also bear in mind, that just because it looks bright to you doesn't mean it's bright enough for the plant. Especially if it's the sort with high light requirements such as tomatoes, peppers, basil or other meditteranean herbs.

For those who think this is a happy tomato plant: the stem is incredibly thin because the grow light used for these videos isn't strong enough for the plant. This plant did not fruit very well and it stayed very thin and leggy. Which is totally fine to just watch a plant grow, but rest assured, this would not have survived outside. Tomatoes require at minimum, 40 watts of light per square foot while growing inside. Most people spend the $$ and put a 250-450+ watt light over a tray of tomato seedlings. I've made the mistake of low watt grow lights recently, and my plants looked similar to this. Very soft, weak, lanky stems. Cool video though!
Our world is perfectly designed. I cant believe my eyes seeing this. A tiny slice of fruit, something we can eat so easily, and is so delicious, is self regenerating… The world is beautiful.

So long as you're fertilizing pretty frequently it can get that big in an even smaller pot. It depends on the type of plant tbh. This looks like an indeterminate variety which is more of a vine type of plant while determinate ones are typically more like bushes. It also looks a little leggy imo, but I could definitely just be wrong lol
Nice but To get the best results dry the seeds first for a few days before growing, fungus can grow on moist seeds and end up rotting them preventing growth
(I think) I could tell the days you watered it lol. Plants are so dramatic, they’d take this huge droop, threatening death, and then perk right back up.
It depend on how the type of plant the tomato you are looking planting is from. If it’s not an F1 hybrid it will go true to the tomato you planted. If it’s an F1 hybrid it’s a combination of three different plant varieties so you may get plants that have attributes of the parent plant but different fruits. Or none even if the main attribute was a long or strong main stem. You may get a good looking plant structurally but without the yield of planting high end tomato seeds.
A few years ago I saw a vid on YT of a person doing this. So I tried it with an heirloom tomato that I bought from the grocery store. It worked perfectly. Wound up getting about 3 dozen fruits from that plant.
Get rid of the "suckers" that grow in the armpit of the branches man. No wonder you only got one tomato. To pollinate the plant, give it a little shake every day and the flowers self pollinate. Loved this video, it's amazing to see how fast they grow per day. I think I read somewhere that some bamboo can grow 1ft per day if you are looking for a new growing challenge.
It needs a full sun location and good watering. Also some support to grow big. Another issue is that hybrid tomatoes will not produce the same tomato when planted. But generally you are right, tomato is not that hard.
I believe the light was not to tomato's liking - the leaves grew too wide apart & the stem is too thin. But it was a curious timelapse 😄 Pity, only one fruit on a branch got pollinated successfully~ I wonder how it would have turned out, if you had had left all the seedlings together.
It might also have been lack of nutrition that left only a single tomato to grow? I'm unsure, only been growing tomatoes from store bought tomatoes since 2018. If all the plant's had been left to grow together i believe they would have flowered. But they would not grow tomatoes. Alternatively they would have given tomatoes the size of pea's most likely, due to lack of nutrition and space. It's an adventure learning how nature works!

(I think) I could tell the days you watered it lol. Plants are so dramatic, they’d take this huge droop, threatening death, and then perk right back up.
This works. I very used volunteer tomatoes plants from the compost pile
And I have put slices of tomatoes in a flower pot to start my tomatoes.
Why eat a tomato slice now when you can wait 4 months and eat one whole tomato
Das ist mein Humor.
The light is not enough.. it's just bolting.. stretching out to the light source..
And the pot is too little. It gave a nice effet though.
Exactly

It depend on how the type of plant the tomato you are looking planting is from. If it’s not an F1 hybrid it will go true to the tomato you planted. If it’s an F1 hybrid it’s a combination of three different plant varieties so you may get plants that have attributes of the parent plant but different fruits. Or none even if the main attribute was a long or strong main stem. You may get a good looking plant structurally but without the yield of planting high end tomato seeds.
All F1 cars are hybrid today brother
A few years ago I saw a vid on YT of a person doing this. So I tried it with an heirloom tomato that I bought from the grocery store. It worked perfectly. Wound up getting about 3 dozen fruits from that plant.
Infinite tomato glitch
tomato + dirt + water = infinite tomato
@@guiii0696 + sunlight + nutrients + CO2 and other gasses + bees 🐝 to pollinate the flowers 🌸
can’t believe the devs still haven’t patched this replication glitch
I really love the time and effort put into these videos. Absolutely amazing.
What grow light do you use please?
✌️
They are listed in the description:)
@@oopsallbugs Thank you ✌️
beautiful mother nature.
I enjoy time lapse uploads. Thanks for putting in the effort to do it.
Comments section is oddly toxic. Lol.
Thanks for the tip, I've just started growing my own!
He grew more than one, look at end of video
Yup - exactly this. I use an electric toothbrush to tickle my flowers 🤣
Suckers?
You can literally throw pieces of tomato on the ground and will have tomato plants popping up everywhere
It needs a full sun location and good watering. Also some support to grow big. Another issue is that hybrid tomatoes will not produce the same tomato when planted. But generally you are right, tomato is not that hard.
True. I did it with my daughter here in Japan spring time just to see if it’ll grow in our garden. They’re popping out everywhere 🌱
I believe the light was not to tomato's liking - the leaves grew too wide apart & the stem is too thin.
But it was a curious timelapse 😄 Pity, only one fruit on a branch got pollinated successfully~
I wonder how it would have turned out, if you had had left all the seedlings together.
I was gonna say, that plant stretched soooooooo much. Really did look like it needed a stronger light / have it closer.
@@kackers3 It had nowhere near the amount of light it needed. I grow tomatoes outdoors and they really soak up the sun like nothing else. This was a neat timelapse but the plant was in pretty poor conditions.
The video only focused on the one tomato but if you look at the pull-out shot at the end you can see lots of them.
@@Glim246 I wouldn’t consider the amount of fruit this pant produced as “lots”.
The choice of music was excellent. Truly beautiful.

Such a happy tomato 🍅 plant 🇬🇧
Damn there some serious tomato enthusiasts in the comments
They grow so fast yet so slow!
Props to cameraman for not sleeping for 120 days straight just for our entertainment
Having a scale on the back wall would be awesome to get a feeling for the size. Cool video.
The leaves look like they’re dancing to the music!
They were. They have brains and can think. It's very frustrating for them because we don't understand them. It's like being in a coma. They can hear us but can't communicate.
