I thought I had a picot foot, and wanted to make rolled hems, but my hems were always flat and I didn't understand why. After watching every one of your "presser foot tutorials" it turns out I had been using a narrow hem foot. Now I am relieved to understand that I need to buy this picot foot instead! Thanks for all your great videos!
I know you put this video out years ago but thank you so much. I have had this darn picot foot for a year and couldn't figure it out. I tired ironing and everything and could never get it started right. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!

Wow! Thank you sooooo much! I have had this foot in my brother sewing machine kit for YEARS and never knew how to use it. Thanks again. It's a wonderful foot and now I know how to use it. I can make better scarfs and napkins right? I am such a visual learner….. Take care…..Viv
Wow thanks for this. Maybe I’m dense, I have just gotten back into sewing. When you shared using the tail to help feed the start of the fabric I had a eureka moment. Thanks very informative video for me!!

Hi...thanks for your guided instructions here with the hemmer/picot foot demo. This makes it easy now for me to try this new adventure because your instructions are easy to follow. I sew a lot and will definitely give this a tryout. I be back to see what else you have here to show us all.Thank you!
Fifty years of sewing, and now I finally comprehend about how fabric is inserted into the picot foot. Guess it looked harder than it actually was...No excuse my apprehension, as was a young person w/at least an associate degree. Was tired of screwing up fabric!
I would definitely recommend this for chiffon. This foot and the rolled hem foot work well with chiffon. However, if you find your fabric being sucked into the needle place, just place a piece of tissue paper underneath the fabric while you sew. Then, rip if off when you're finished! And be sure to use a Top Stitch needle!
@@80sforever3 Hello! In answer to your other question regarding the picot and hemmer foot, we do not have any guaranteed options; however, after cros-referencing, I found a couple of feet that I feel confident will work with your machine. Hemmer: www.sewingpartsonline.com/hemmer-foot-babylock-snap-on-1.aspx Picot: www.sewingpartsonline.com/snap-on-picot-foot-sa164.aspx As for your needle question, when doing a satin stitch, a top stitch needle works great. The elongated eye helps prevent the thread from breaking. Just know, if you decide to use decorative thread- like metallic- switch the needle out for a metallic needle. I hope that this helps.
It is so hard to find picot foot & rolled hem foot. Would love to see their subtle differences. Flat hem foot are everywhere, some seller even advertise them as rolled hem foot
We have a video on the differences. :) ruclips.net/video/bwReU8HaJpM/видео.html If you need help finding one, please let me know your model number and I can see if we have one available. 😊
I have an older machine that has a picot foot that is very different. It pokes a hole at the hemline as it stitches so the finished edge has picot points. Does that have another name now?
The fabric is 100% polyester and has a lightweight Hand: Soft There is going to be embroidery on the skirts as well different design on each skirt. Would the hemmer foot be better ??
I am making a bridal style skirt, and the fabric is a lightweight fabric. D you recommend to use the picot foot or the hemmer foot? Thank you for the video
Meher Shawoan Hi! I must say, the name of the feet make it difficult to tell the difference. The picot hem is fabric that is rolled, not folded and secured with a zig zag stitch. It has a 3 dimensional appearance. The rolled hem is really fabric that is folded twice to make a narrow hem. They both use a funnel system to create the hem and the feet look VERY similar.
Hi I have just bought a singer machine 'promise' model 1412 (Australia) I would like to do the picot stitch on a silk scarf ...which model number do I buy? Can't find it on your site. The company book says model number 6800008 but don't think that looks same as what you are showing here...please help
S H Desai Hi! This is the picot foot I use in the video - it will work with you singer machine: www.sewingpartsonline.com/snap-on-picot-foot-sa164.aspx
Sewing Parts Online I bought this and somehow it still flattens the edging before making the zig zag stitch. Wonder what is the difference. I am in Australia n buying from the site you have shown is not cost effective. What is the part number that I can ask for when I call the local singer shop. I want to send you a picture but am not ure how to send it
S H Desai Hi! I'm so sorry you foot is giving you trouble. Send a picture to sarah @ sewingpartsonline.com and we can try to figure it out together. What is the letter etched on the front of the foot your using? The reason I ask is because you might be using a Rolled Hem Foot, which looks EXACTLY like the picot foot, but creates a flat hem, not the "rolled" picot hem (clear as mud, right?). The part number for the picot foot is SA164 - however, the Picot foot is manufactured by Brother, so a Singer-exclusive store might not sell it. But, they can definitely try to order one from you. Either way, send me a few pics and we'll work it out.
Hello Anuerkha! Sarah stated in a comment previously that she believed she had her stitch length at 3.5 and stitch length was 1.4. She was using a Zig Zag Stitch as well. I hope this helps!
I do not have a guaranteed option; however, my best suggestion would be: www.sewingpartsonline.com/pico-foot-brother-xa7872002.aspx This snap-on picot foot is a 1/8". I do not see a larger option available. I hope that this helps.
Catherine Lowton Hi! Jaguar is a sewing machine brand that has a variety of presser feet that our compatible with it. Is there a particular foot you were interested in?
Shanta Srivastava Hi! The names are kind of backwards because a Picot foot really creates a "rolled" hem, whereas the Rolled hemmer foot creates a flat hem, the is turned under twice. A picot foot has the dimensions of small pipping, if that makes any sense.
Hi, Sabrina! They are very similar, but not the same. The Rolled Hemmer Foot creates a flat hem. The Picot Foot creates a round rolled hem using a zig zag stitch.
Im not sure I understand the difference between the picot foot and the hemmer/rolled hem foot. All the ones I've compared online seem to look exactly the same!
Hi, Lacey! They do look exactly the same. The difference is the bottom of the foot. The Picot Foot has a rounded channel and the Hemmer Foot has a square shaped channel. The Rolled Hem foot creates a flat hem and the Picot Foot creates a "rolled" hem. Clear as mud, right?
Depending on your machine make and model, the Picot Foot ranges from $13.95 to $17.99. We sell them here: www.sewingpartsonline.com/search.html?keywords=picot+foot
Very similar, but the Picot Foot "rolls" the fabric using a zig-zag stitch. The Rolled Hem Foot actually folds the fabric and creates a flat hem. Really, the Picot Foot should be called a "rolled hem foot" because it creates a "rolled" hem! Super confusing, right?

You can use either foot, but the picot foot uses a zigzag stitch. The hemmer foot uses a straight stitch. Is the fabric chiffon?
