“Did did did did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter, when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue Sky?” - one of the greatest verses in the history, unbelievable!
This song really gets under your skin. It's dark, eerie and yet has a tragic beauty to it. Couldn't think of a better song that captures the sheer hopelessness and terror of war
Roger Waters, the lyricist and conceptual leader of Pink Floyd through the 70s, father was killed in World War II the year he was born. He is fiercely anti-war. The animations here are from the movie The Wall, the film adaptation of Floyd's classic 1979 album, a lot of the themes of which are inspired by events in Waters' own life.
Pink Floyd is one of those bands that pull emotion out of you, whether you want to give it up or not. Roger Waters wrote amazing lyrics, but David Gilmour and the soul he gave the Fender Stratocaster is what can warm your heart…or tear it to shreds.
@@endapian Richard Wright, the keyboardist. He was awesome!! My favorite keyboard solo of his is the intro of "Sheep" from their "Animals" album. Awesome song!!
My mother survived the Blitz in East London during the war. For 74 nights - all bar two - bombs and death rained down around her. I still recall her stiffening at the sound of the occasional passing plane...it left scars that never really healed. At one point she virtually lived underground. Goodbye blue skies indeed.
This song is but one chapter of the 26 strong 79 classic The Wall album which really should be listened to in order sometime for full context and effect. Trust me it maybe life changing !
The footage is from the Vietnam War, Pink Floyd`s The Wall which this is from is a great film (and album) the lead singer on a lot of the tracks was Sir Bob Geldof who Pink Floyd brought in to sing and act in the subsequent film The Wall and who i`ve met and had many chats with (through where I was working at the time) was also the man behind Live Aid 1985 and the great song Do They Know it`s Christmas which is the era that I spent time with him. Check out Do They Know it`s Christmas when you get the time even if you don`t do a reaction video to it. PS still loving your reaction vids
The Vietnam war footage is not from the original movie. The Wall is a concept album, movie and live show, not just a hodgepodge of songs. May wanna check it out from beginning to end. Not a happy movie but lots of content and story to try to follow.
These lyrics are unfortunately too often real for certain populations on our small planet. (Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?)
Interesting they pointed out "A Brave New World" I like the song but would imagine it would be better if I was on SOMA. Maybe Huxley was just mistaken.

And Gilmour sang this verse without taking a breath.
It illustrates the disconnect between the reality of war and the propaganda you are fed while at war.
That verse of the song still makes my eyes watery.

And his grandfather was killed in WW I.
@@Deemjuhh12 yes. As Roger tearfully points out in The Wall movie he put out a few years back... the cycle was broken this generation with himself.
@@Deemjuhh12 Thank you, I did not know that.
So anti- war he aligned with the war mongers and has pushed their agenda.
The part where all the planes turn into crosses always gives me chills..
Please do a reaction to the full movie. You will understand the entire album that way :)
I've heard this song thousands of times but watching your face during the reaction just slayed me. God bless you and protect you.
powerful song, n a lesson 2 b learned by us all.......
I love PINK FLOYD
beautiful reaction. And an original.

Don't forget the sound of the keyboard ......
That's the reason why i love listening to Pink Floyd. They put a lot of emotions, sometimes making my eyes watery.

Nobody can bend the strings like David. His voice with rogers lyrics. We’ll never see a band like pink ever again.

Watch the movie also
A very powerful song and Gilmour voice is awesome.
Thank you for not interrupting during this song.
This happens during EVERY war.
The combat scenes were taken by the USA during bombing runs in vietnam and cambodia
This song in in reference to the sustained bombing campaign against the British citizens during WW2.

I believe Geldof only provided vocals for the film versions of 'In the Flesh?' and 'In The Flesh'. Just those.
@@petergilmartin2906 He sang on both parts. Part 2 was fully re-recored. Part 1 just remastered with Geldof's vocals.
From smiling to crying. Hurts the soul. Just like life in this world.

I love this song. Roger Waters who wrote this, his dad died in WW2, this song is about the loss roger felt
I know what I’m watching today
THX!!!!
Next song from Pink Floyd - Coming back to life ( live to Pulse concert 1994 ) 😎👍

Sad that the video in this was deleted
you really should watch the entire movie for it all to make sense
The UK was bombed during WW11. Childhood memories as told by their parents.
Interesting they pointed out "A Brave New World" I like the song but would imagine it would be better if I was on SOMA. Maybe Huxley was just mistaken.
Brownie points to anyone who understood a mention of brave new world, soma or Huxley.
That's a fan made video... Which does not include the intro and repeats one of the lines
Odd how the wreckage in the animated portion resembles ground zero...😲
Is that a gele you’re wearing? It’s very pretty! I hope I got that right ❤️✌️
I'm impressed 😁
It could be a gele but I'm putting on an headband that looks like a gele

Should watch the video from the movie, actually you should listen to the album in track order, and then watch the movie.

The problem with this video is it is based on World War 2 and the footage they show is from Vietnam. :)
I think those kinds of air strikes were similar enough that it makes sense to show it here
@@mattvaldez6111 Maybe if you don't know military history.
I knew the moment I saw that it was Vietnam not sure how that’s relevant lol
You are correct. The Vietnam footage was not in the video, and just wasted the song.
@@TheBfilli5755you realize America bombed the absolute shit out of Vietnam and is what eventually got them to surrender

You didn't even react to the pink floyd the wall movie
Esta música passa uma mensagem negativa de dor e destruição.
Is a bad mix with bombing in Vietnam. Nothing to do with the movie The Wall. You should listen straight from the album.
Not liking this edit.
It’s about the Blitzkrieg during WWII throughout London.
