New fly fisherman and tyer here in Central Alabama. You have some of the best fly tying content on RUclips. I'm a history nut, so I especially enjoy the back stories you provide on so many of your flies. Keep up the good work !!
I like that you tied this fly with a klinkhammer hook and here’s why. Years ago I tied a pattern similar to this called a carrot nymph. Fish liked it, problem was I had trouble hooking anything with it. I think the configuration of the style hook you chose would probably work better than what I used. Thanks Matt, have a great week.
Nice soft hackle Matt. My personal best brown took a Grouse & Orange on a #12 dry fly hook. Hare's ear thorax to prop the hackle up. Thread body just like yours but size 70 D. Yeah, I'd put a few in my box too. Light hooks for slow to moderate flows, heavier hooks for fast/deep flows. nice fishing segment 😎👍Thanks.
A nice variation of the partridge and orange spider . I like the addition of peacock . I've been fishing Bamboo for a few years now and was fishing mainly dries . Lately I've been tying the old school spider patterns. I can't believe how effective they are . What's even better is how simple they are to tie . Unfortunately allot of the old historic patterns that call for banned materials or materials we can no longer acquire. Like you have done here made due with materials available to us . Nice video Matt thanks for sharing.
Good morning Sir Matt, I love this fly so many variance in colors you can use with this you could even call it the cousin to the orange and Partridge lol I’m really liking these short videos, your producing and the footage of all the fishing. Thanks again, Matt tight lines, Sir.
Cool little fly there Matt! I always enjoy tying with lesser used materials like the Starling. I happen to have a Starling pelt, so I'll definitely be tying a few!
Good morning Matt from sunny Arizona. We arrrived safely on Friday. We are back in our same location. Apparently missed some great fishing back home. A couple buddies went out and they had a couple great days fishing Rainbows. Sent me pictures of several in the 20’s and one 30”. The ice was starting to form on the lake. Well at least the temps are nice here. This fly is going on my need to tie list and I know exactly what lake I want to try it on. Great video Matt. Hope you had a great weekend.
Thanks Matt! Life has kept me away from fly fishing for the last year. Looking to add more to my box and get back at it this coming spring! Love your videos!
Matt: I tie a very similar fly with a body of orange, yellow, red, copper, and green wires for the bodies. We call them Soft Hackle Brassies. I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.
Great simple fly, like the fishing videos. Here in Mass we've had about an inch of rain the last month so the small streams are very low, but going to try to get some fishing done this week, suppose to reach 70's a couple of days. Have a great day!
Another great video Matt. Nice tie and beautiful catches. Thank you for sharing. Now one more thing I’d like to mention. I’m posting this comment on Sunday evening, November 3, 2024. We have an event coming up that is very important to our country. Yep, it’s Election Day. Please let’s all do our personal duty. Let’s get out there and VOTE. If you don’t vote, don’t complain. God bless.
Hey Matt... I grew up in Michigan in 70s. My Dad was guide for Pine And Little Manistee RI ers. He is in 90s and things have changed with materials and types of flies we used today. I fish all over Michigan when was kid. Now I fish the smokies and back home in Michigan on east and north branches of famous Au Sable river. I need your help. What are your top 5 dry, 5 wet flies and 5 nymphs for use anywhere in US. I think it would be a great video . Thank your brother in fly tying.. Brian

Matt, I’ve always been intrigued by ‘north country spiders’ from across the pond! So glad you tied and fished this pattern!

Great and simple fly. A true classic from England. The Gunpowder looks great; flow rate is nice. Thanks, Matt.
That is one of my favorite flies
Thanks for the video, Matt
Very nice looking fly. I immediately thought of swinging it like a soft hackle. Thanks again for all your great content.

Love spider ties. Great fishers and easy ties. Thx Matt.
Thanks Matt! - did the same fly just with black copper wire as a traditional ribbing.. So the fly get black stripes ;-)
Couple of beautiful fish like the quick nice looking tie job
Great looking fly. Love the simplistic nature of it.
Matt…curious how the fly looks in the water. Have you ever considered doing and episode show how flies actually look in the water? Movement etc.
Good Morning Matt,
I really like that bug, I love the Klinkhammer. And as always beautiful water😉☕️☕️
Nice! Adding it to my list. Thanks for sharing Matt have a blessed Sunday my friend.

Nice, simple, effective fly. That 240d thread looks like rope compared to the 70d
Very nice, very easy and it works! Thank you!

Very nice combination of fly & fishing it. Even though it’s a spider, it makes me think of one of my favorite wet flies, the Partridge and Orange.

Awesome video, Matt!!! Great footage of the pattern being tied! Tight lines my friend! 😎🎣
Hi Matt. Nice fly with a combo of unusual materials. Reminds me of the Carrot fly. Nice fish too! C u next time.
Excellent. I tie flies just like that.Spiders and similar to Orange and Partridge. They are wonderful to fish. :-)
Yes indeed! And are surprisingly effective. :-)
I made something similar to this one day messing around with materials. I didn't know what it was called. Thanks for the video.
a pattern i’ve tied for years, Sylvester Nemes defined the modern versions. very effective pattern
Yes! Nemes is famous for his soft-hackled wet flies. That's one book I haven't pulled the trigger to buy yet. It's still pretty pricey!
That’s cool
Partridge and orange. I have a box full of them, and variations.
some times the wild it looks the better
😊
