Appreciate it Tom! I think I got all my fishing in there last week and won't make it back to the farm until Thanksgiving. But the river is still usually pretty productive in late November. :-)
I have always enjoyed and learned from your tying and with winter coming it's time to get the vise and thread out and restock the fly box for next year. Thanks for all your help.
Great job Matt. Little preview shorts leading up the tying / fishing segment. Nice little attractor 🐛 🪲 bug. Imitates good late season fish food. I see why it's your home water. 🫡👍
Thanks Joe! Yeah, it's a beautiful river. I took my wife out for a hike one time a few years ago and she said, "I see why this is your happy place." :-)
You're most welcome! It's really a great river. My next few trips will probably be on the Gunpowder but I'll be back out in western MD in late November. :-)
I tied this pattern years ago and have had great success. I was just experimenting and it has worked well for me and a circle of friends for whom I tie. Nothing new here.
Good morning Matt, I really like the tail variation that gives it versatility in imitation. Thank you for the simple pattern. Seems like the simpler flies often yield best results.
I see the misses and the trees were tied with the fish, about par for the course. I like the fly, simple but effective. Keep the good stuff coming Matt.
Thanks Dave! I think the trees and rocks won on today's trip to the river. I was fishing Sunday's tie this morning. I only took three and lost them ALL. I had to tie another one this evening just to take a picture for the thumbnail. :-)
Hi Matt. Thanks for an easy gnat. I'm still a rookie fly there and making the same mistakes as all newbies.I can tie a size 18 , I just need to keep my reading glasses clean. Have a fun 🎃.
Good morning Matt. ☕️time while enjoying your video. Never fished a Griffith Gnat but judging by the scorecard I should be giving it a try. Loading the trailer including my tying stuff today, and by tomorrow noon I hope to be south of the 49th. Weather forecast looks decent for travel. Have a great week.
Good luck John! Do ya'll even have these tiny midges in your big western waters? When I think of those big rivers, I think of stimulators, or sofa pillows, or big stonefly dries. Safe travels my friend. :-)
@ I’ve never fished the big rivers that have trout in them. The rivers here are pike and walleye for the most part. The south Sask River has some Rainbows in it but I have not fished it a lot. As far as midges go I’m not certain we have the same bug that you are referring to but we have tiny flying insects that I see occasionally coming off the small lakes. Those gnats would definitely sub in for a small mosquito though.
Good morning Matt. It's been awhile since I commented. My work schedule has been extremely hectic. Anyhow really enjoying the fishing videos. I really need to find time to get out on the water myself. Stay safe.
If it ain't chartreuse there ain't use. Thanks for sharing Professor Matt another recipe for the fly kitchen. Gotta whip some up for the fishies to snack on.
Haha! Absolutely! I was surprised at how productive this fly was last week. A plain old Griffith's Gnat might have down just as well but I'm digging the bright colors on this thing. :-)
Yes indeed Tom! I'm also fortunate that I got my wife to fall in love with the area and we bought our retirement place out there. Of course we're 3+ years from actually retiring and moving out there, but it'll be here before you know it. :-)
Nice connection between fly & fishing. That’s a refreshing change from the rather boring, traditional Griffith’s Gnat. Well done, Matt. Just to see what happens, especially late in the day, you might consider using orange dubbing in the same pattern.
You know, that's a great idea Bob. I just tied half a dozen in this chartreuse for my next outing. Orange might be just the ticket for fall fishing. Side note- I've got plenty of these in yellow, and a little bigger, which are basically yellow palmers.
Ha! I don't need to run a promotion... if anybody wants to come fish with me, I'd be happy to host them on the Savage! It just has to be a day when I'm there. I live in southern Maryland, but have a place in the western part of the state that I get out to every few weeks. :-)
Thanks! Note that these shorts are just an experiment. All the videos that you see in the short format DO have a long format. Which I'm still trying to do two regular length tying videos a week. (When I can!)
Chartreuse really works in the fall! I think this is a great tie. And beautiful fish on a beautiful river. Thanks, Matt!
Appreciate it Tom! I think I got all my fishing in there last week and won't make it back to the farm until Thanksgiving. But the river is still usually pretty productive in late November. :-)
Nice Griffiths and nice fish! Love the dry fly eats! Thank you for sharing Matt👌
Appreciate it Steve!
I have always enjoyed and learned from your tying and with winter coming it's time to get the vise and thread out and restock the fly box for next year. Thanks for all your help.
Thanks for taking me along for some pretty browns
Love the chartreuse. Nice looking variant. Thx Matt!!
Appreciate it Clyde!
That is a cool looking fly, Matt
And definitely a gorgeous looking river
Thanks for the video
You're most welcome Dave! I appreciate the note my friend. :-)
Nice looking fly. It looked like a beautiful day to be on the water. Thanks for the video.
Good morning Matt. Glad you had a great day of fishing!
Beautiful fall colors. Catching fish is a bonus.
Good morning, Matt! Thank you for sharing this video today! I appreciate it! Tight lines my friend! 😎🎣
You're most welcome! I always appreciate you watching. :-)
Nice Fish, Beautiful River, Enjoyed the Tie and Fishing, Thanks for Bringing Me Along
You're most welcome Douglas! I appreciate you watching my friend. :-)
Great job Matt. Little preview shorts leading up the tying / fishing segment. Nice little attractor 🐛 🪲 bug. Imitates good late season fish food. I see why it's your home water. 🫡👍

Can’t wait to hit the Savage this year! Easily my favorite fishing in MD. Thanks for bringing us along!
You're most welcome! It's really a great river. My next few trips will probably be on the Gunpowder but I'll be back out in western MD in late November. :-)
What a beautiful stream! Thanks for sharing...
You're most welcome! It is pretty much my happy place. :-)
@@SavageFlies Hello, I sent you an email about getting a small book to you, if you'd like?
I enjoyed the instructions & fishing. Thank you for the video.
You're most welcome! I appreciate the note. :-)
I tied this pattern years ago and have had great success. I was just experimenting and it has worked well for me and a circle of friends for whom I tie. Nothing new here.
Nice fishing and great little bug!
Appreciate it Dru!
Good morning Matt,
I really like the tail variation that gives it versatility in imitation. Thank you for the simple pattern. Seems like the simpler flies often yield best results.
I agree 100%! And Wednesday's video was just as simple and it did great for me last week. :-)
Nice fly, really enjoyed the fishing video. Have a great day!
Appreciate it my friend!
Nicely done Matt☕️☕️
I can’t even see a fish at 60’ great job and beautiful water.
Hahaha! I had to put a "cheater" indicator on tomorrow's fly. It's just a simple mayfly but with an Antron post so I can see it in a size 18. :-)
Nice variation of the Griffith Gnat. I'm thinking it's a bit more durable as well . Thanks for sharing Matt . Tight lines Friend.
Awesome video, thank you for sharing.
I see the misses and the trees were tied with the fish, about par for the course. I like the fly, simple but effective. Keep the good stuff coming Matt.

Matt
Love the tally at the end! Trees 2…. Great job.
Haha! Come to think of it, I may have underestimated the flies lost in the trees. :-)
Awesome fishing Matt!
Appreciate it my brother!

Absolutely! Come on out any time. It's a great river. :-) And no sweat about commenting. Just watch them whenever you can. I'm not going anywhere!
Seems like a very effective fly Matt! I'll have to see how it does out here on our western waters. Great fishing segment too!
Appreciate it Troy! Let me know how it does for you. :-)
If it ain't chartreuse there ain't use. Thanks for sharing Professor Matt another recipe for the fly kitchen. Gotta whip some up for the fishies to snack on.

Great job thanks for sharing a variation with the proof that it works.
You bet Ralph! Appreciate you watching my friend. :-)
G’morning Matt. Pretty place you’re fishing there. No wonder you named your channel the same! Great stuff.
Yes indeed Tom! I'm also fortunate that I got my wife to fall in love with the area and we bought our retirement place out there. Of course we're 3+ years from actually retiring and moving out there, but it'll be here before you know it. :-)
Great vid thank you Matt.
Thanks very much matt

I would say that fly works well. What fun.
That was a fun day! And the next day was another simple fly with even better fishing. That's Wednesday's video. :-)
Thanks for the ty and vid matt
You bet John! Appreciate you watching my friend. :-)
Headed 2 the so. Holsten, intend 2 have several of these ready 4 use
Oh man, I'm jealous! I fished the Holsten in southwest VA a few years ago. Had a great time!
Hi matt nice fly for a variation try a tail of crystal flash tks 😊😊
Great idea Burt! I'm absolutely going to do that. I'm going to tie up half a dozen just like this but with a fluorescent orange body too.
The dubbing gives it a sulpher look. Ever think of having a promotion 2 come fish with u?
Ha! I don't need to run a promotion... if anybody wants to come fish with me, I'd be happy to host them on the Savage! It just has to be a day when I'm there. I live in southern Maryland, but have a place in the western part of the state that I get out to every few weeks. :-)
Your short on 11/6 was interesting, but I miss your commentary
Thanks! Note that these shorts are just an experiment. All the videos that you see in the short format DO have a long format. Which I'm still trying to do two regular length tying videos a week. (When I can!)
That' to me could double as a sulphur cripple
Good call! Especially if you make the body cream or a yellow.
