- The worlds best skimboarders gather at Aliso Beach in Southern California to compete in one of the most prestigious and longest running contests in skimboarding. Know as "The VIC" World Championships of skimboarding, this contest has been a staple event in the sport. I was fortunate to have skimboarding kingpin Steve Taylor join me for commentary as we watched top skimboarders like Blair Conklin, Lucas Fink, Johnny Weber, Austin Keen, Sam Stinnet, Bill Bryan and more go blow for blow in the rugged shorebreak conditions. Everyone was ripping hard but in the end Blair Conklin who took home the title.

First ride was a thing of beauty +1 - I screwed my back up skimboarding in the 80s but with a slope on the beach and the tide comin' in there was nothing more fun!!!!!
Yeah skimming can be definitely be dangerous but fun when you get it down.
@@BEEFSTV there weren't any tapered/carbon boards back then... Ours were like these plastic mats with rails on either side you could grab onto... 360s and riding tiny shorebreak were the thing ... Got tweaked pretty good hitting a dry patch at about 15 miles an hour and getting launched when the board stuck lol
No way, I think Blair has one of those old school ones. Has full hole handles in the rail and more rectangular shape.

I can think of a few sandy spots in the strait of juan de fuca (washington st) that would work well for this kind of thing -- and -- some beaches on the columbia river near portland when the big freight ships come by
