    ***Minor spoilers***
    Your point about different spider-folks reacting to people who are dead in their home universe -Not just Gwen has a moment... Did you forget when Peter B. Parker first sees Aunt May? I think Jake Johnson's "I'm... not ready for this." was so emotional driven, and the expression on Pete's animated face moved me -instantly. And inversely, when Aunt May sees an aged Peter, after just losing her own 26 year old nephew. OR when Peter sees Mary Jane (who is 10 years younger than his own, divorced Mary Jane) and he absolutely loses his cool.

    • @eppoif1
      @eppoif1 5 лет назад +175

      Or even when Peter starts to walk away and Gwen webs him back. Maybe I'm just reading into that moment a bit too much, but the thought of the emotional link and familiarity of similar moments with her Peter while she was standing next to Peter B. caught me.

      You know what might've been a nice little moment for fans looking for an interaction between Gwen and Peter that wouldn't have taken much time?
      Have Peter be the one to correct Miles about Gwen's name.
      M: "Wanda?"
      G: "It's-"
      P: "Gwen Stacy."
      *Miles and Gwen look at him in confusion*
      P:"Long story. Why- how are you here?"
      G: "I'm from another universe. Well, another, another universe."
      Scene continues as normal.

      @@MarzipanPie23 YES. YES. I was like, "Why isn't he reacting to Gwen Stacy?!
      I guess it's really a mistake on the part of the movie makers, but in order to keep my cool, I'll make up the most logical explanation that fits into the story - in his world Gwen Stacy didn't exist, or she didn't die like she did in the 616 universe. We already know this isn't 616 Peter Parker. They said he's kind of an amalgam of various Peters over the years.

      Exactly. There's certain things in superhero fiction that only the mediums of comics and animation can do.
      Live-action just can't quite capture the sheer off-the-wall wildness that this movie evokes.
      Hope this gives studios the confidence to make more animated superhero movies for theatrical release.

      Yes, Spiderverse is great, but it isn't as great as Infinity War.
      Yeah, Prowler's death scene was sad, but what about Loki's death? Gamora's death for crying out loud. And the snap? "But they are goanna comeback" yeah bullshit because for one, they ARE dead.
      Yes, they CAN comeback, but it would either be time travel or reality, which WILL bring them back, but will NOT be the same ones you met in previous movies, so they ARE dead.
      Better villain? Thanos with ease.
      The heroes? Spider-Man was good, Miles' was great, but Gwen? Her boyfriend died, what else?
      Spider-Ham? The punchline of the team.
      Noir? Not enough screen time, no back story, and even if there was, it wasen't enough.
      And the anime girl which I honestly can't even remember the name?
      Her dad died... yup, that's it.

    • @SparaticSpartan
      @SparaticSpartan 5 лет назад +115

      Dude 101 I think Into The Spiderverse is better than Infinity War because it is EXTREMELY well paced for a movie including multiple heroes, and is able to tie everything back to its main character, Miles Morales. That coupled with the amazing music, art and animation made it my favorite movie of 2018. As for characters like Spider-Ham, Penny Parker and Noir? They’re comic relief and small supporting characters meant to help Miles through his arc, so they don’t need to be as fleshed out as he does. Thanos was the better villain yes but Into The Spiderverse had the better story. Don’t get me wrong, I love the MCU, and I loved Infinity War, but it wasn’t as well paced as ITSV. That, and some scenes felt very dull. The Wakanda battle didn’t get me as hype as it should’ve.

    I just finished watching it today and i will admit i got my money's worth. This movie is fantastic and it's one of those that will survive rewatches. I will admit, the hip hop and rap didn't speak to me, but it does explain Miles's character: he's rebellious, creative, and wants freedom to live his own life instead of living up to expectations. He gets bit by a radioactive spider and suddenly he gets forced into a life he did not see coming. Miles captured exactly how a kid getting superpowers for the first time would react, learning how to be Spider-Man, and finally taking those big steps felt earned instead of forced. The other spider warriors based on their respected universes felt authentic and accurate (yes, even Spider-Ham), and Kingpin was really menacing.
    Obviously my ratings aren't worth much, but i will give this an 8/10. Hear me out: the story and characters were great, but there was so much potential to the other warriors, especially since Spider-Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham's backstories were cut short. Literally, we don't even get an explanation to what they were doing before the collider exploded the first time. At least we got good backstories for Spider-Gwen and Peter B. Parker (older Spider-Man), but that was it. Maybe if we got to learn more about the other Spider Warriors, it would have been better. I know that Miles was the main focus, but it still would have been nice to learn more about the other Spider Warriors. That's just my two cents.

      Yeah, my experience coulda been better too. The audience really didn't seem to care - they were just killing time with their hyper children. 3 people in front of me were on the phones on-and-off for the duration of the film, and kid in the seat in front of me would not keep quiet. To make matters worse, most of the room cleared out during the credits (their loss), and at a snails pace - and again they would not shut up. Skipping the credits is rude enough, but blocking people's view of them when they're a) marvel credits (with extra scenes) and b) as stunningly beautiful as these should be a bloody punishable offence.

      I mean, in his introduction and depiction in the Ultimate universe, he hit it on the head:
      "He's just a black Peter Parker."
      Like I feel Bendis did a great job of making his supporting cast feel unique and fresh, but just made Miles an approximation of his Peter, without giving him anything too unique about his character.
      Which I mean, I get it. Spidey was one of the few things that was keeping the 1610 Universe alive, so it's natural for him to keep a similar personality to Peter.
      But, it hurt his character in the long run imo, and I think it's extremely noticeable now that he's in the 616.
      Spider-Verse actually did an amazing job differentiating him, and I feel he's a stronger character in the film than his comic book counterpart.

It's a movie so good that it forces racists to be honest.

And of course - you can have Thor 2's, Iron Man 2's, Hulks and other bad movies starring white dudes, but every single POC lead Marvel movie HAS TO BE PERFECT otherwise we might not get anymore. They can fuck up as many times as they like, we have to nail it 100% of the time or "POC lead movies are too risky to continue making".

    • @KookiesNolly
      @KookiesNolly 5 лет назад +14

      JediQueer exactly !
      That’s why I was a little scared that Spiderverse wouldn’t be good. I knew if Miles was poorly written or something people would just make it about his race.
      I love Miles so much. It feels so good to have a well-written character that is like me, not just because of the color of his skin but because of his life experiences. I too grew up in a predominantly black area and attended school in a completely different environment because I had good grades but I felt super lonely. I was also the all black girl most of the time. I like how his neighborhood is mostly made of POC but pretty much everyone in his school is white. That’s exactly the way it was for me 😆. I always related to Peter Parker because of his personality but Miles is just soooo real. It was even easier to relate to him. 😊. It may not be 100% logical to all those « color blind » people who love supporting the status quo but it feels good to have a character that looks like you that you can relate to.
      I know that token characters are a thing but it’s kinda sad that only white straight male characters are allowed to be more than those attributes, like when they fail nobody brings up their gender, race or sexuality to talk about them, it doesn’t affect people’s perception of movies starring those kind of characters. But when it comes to social minorities, we are always put in a box, by producers, by viewers... Even when people can see that the problem is the writing, the straight white guys who invest in those movies only understand « oh people don’t like action movies with [insert minority] people in it ». That’s the way they talked about Female superhero movies before Wonder Woman instead of admitting that those movies were doomed to fail because of the production, because THEY had little faith in them. Those straight white guys made movies about people like them for people like them and were so bad at putting themselves in minorities shoes that they couldn’t write them properly. They made straight white men the norm and it’s annoying. Like white dudes can be and do all they want in movies and people barely care but when a woman or POC or LGBT person does the same suddenly the audience is more critical of it, they NEED to point out the Mary Sue and the token. That’s because they’re not familiar with those people occupying the same roles as white guys in movies.

    • @danieldaw1778
      @danieldaw1778 5 лет назад +7

      Lmao, I love you two. White people really don't realize just how homogenous the shows they routinely watch and love truly are until a POC points it out to them. It's especially egregious when these shows take place in major cities like New York or LA, which have a shit ton of diversity in demographics. Yet they treat diversity like it's the fucking plague because God forbid you put some Black people, or Hispanic people, or Asian People or LBBTQ people. And just writing this I know some "I swear I'm not racist" far right wing White nationalist virtue signaling sense is lighting up a like Christmas tree, the fact if the matter is, if you live in one of these major metropolitan areas, even if your social circle isn't diverse at all, you will still notice the presence of these groups all the time.
      And that brings me to my next point. The don't change characters, make new ones is a bullshit excuse and they know it. The Avengers will always in some way include a Thor, an Iron Man, a Captain America, a Hulk, etc, just like the Justice league will always have a Batman, a Superman, a Wonder Woman, a Flash, a Green Lantern, and (normally) an Aquaman. So many of these characters are engrained into the fabric of the comics that you just can't do stories without them. Yet the state of POC superheros in booth the comics and the movies is that Black characters are often side kick partners, or filling in for the main hero, while Hispanics, Asians, Arabic and Native American characters are damn near nonexistent. And while I do think new characters should be getting made, the reality is that Marvel and DC are businesses. New characters are hard to establish and often sell less because they don't have an established fan base, which is why you get Black Green Lantern, Afro-Hispanic Spiderman, Arabic Miss Marvel, Hispanic Green Lantern, Black and gay Aqualad, etc. It's hard to compete with 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 years of continuity and history. If creating a profitable completely new character with absolutely no ties to previous characters was possible, they'd do it all the time.
