I purchased a 2013 2.0Turbo with the DSG. I had a 2002 TDI Beetle and I simply can't believe just how much better this generation beetle is. I absolutely love it. L...O...V....E..... love.
You might love it now but depending on how many miles your car has you probably will not like it later. Btw did you research the 2013 VW beetle before you purchased it. The engine 2.0 T has tons of problems: timing chain failure, water pump, fuel pumps, oil leaks, just to name a few things. Get rid of your car while you can!
@@bh2155 you were so right! My evap system started going crazy, then misfires started happening, the turbo started malfunctioning. I traded it with most haste! I'll never own another one.
@@benjamin4394 Sorry to hear that dude. You are smarter than me! I still have my car I put close to 10k in repairs and I am not sure what to do with it. If I trade it in I will lose money. If I keep it I am guaranteed to have to put more money into it. I should have gotten rid of it years ago!
@@benjamin4394 Well I am sure the BMW is a lot more reliable than a VW. To be safe the best bet was to buy a Toyota or Honda but who really wants one of those cars
needs a rag top! And Brian Cooley should be a household name. By far one of the best reviewers on the web. always informative and not too biased , well done.
I agree. The first "new Beetle" looked more like the classic beetle - with the curved top, rounded rear lights, round fog lights, more rounded looking front hood, etc....
It still looks like a Beetle never the less. when you start looking at it hard then yeah it doesn't got this or that, just stop! I say 2 thumbs up it doesn't look Girly. Looks Great Thank God!
fender? now you're talking... and i think this one resembles the original more than the last one did... i kinda like it.. not nearly as girly, it's leaning towards looking like a porsche a little bit lol
Brian, I had the chance to test drive a turbo. The turbo lag is substantial and a bit annoying. Its not a deal breaker for me but I'd like to know what you think of the lag. You didn't mention it during the review. How does the lag compare to other cars with turbos? Do you think VW could've done a better job of reducing the lag? I may get a turbo very soon. The same exact car you drove without the navigation. I was pleasantly suprised. The turbo is a very fun little car to drive.
Here's my comment on engine BHP and mpg. My 2002 Impala LS had 200 BHP and got 22/31 MPG 10 years ago. I'm not saying this is a comparable car but what is up with poor economy on this 4 CYL?
I don't understand why in all the pictures in the brochures and online that is shows the RNS 510 system, yet the top of the line unit is the 315....bad advertising.
They should just remake the classic vw bug and just add airbags and more oomf. I own a 1968 vw bug autostick. I love it.. My bug was 3000.00 decades ago.. It should cost that much.. maybe a little more now to purchase.
CNNETTV: "To me it kind of starts to leave its whole purpose on earth, which is to be a faithful repro of the original beetle" DriveTime: "Volkeswagen's second swing at ressurecting the past is an upper deck home run"..."harkening to the original" There seem to be very different opinions between professional reviews on whether it stays true to beetle design or not. I think it obviously does, much more than the previous generation.
@Mario4Italy that is a very rude comment, I'm a straight black male. I have a gf and have a knack for muscle cars and lifted trucks. NO DONKS! haaha! I actually like the turbo beetle, because its really a GTI in sheep clothing.
A redundant waste of real estate? It's called smart design in the computer world. If you're gonna have important touchscreen buttons, you always include hardware buttons just in case.
Mileage is bad for a car that size . A mini clubman in cooper works trim gets 26 city 35 highway or the 305 hp mustang v6 gets 31 highway. When a dodge ram is getting 25 highway and you only get 30 out of a small car. Altima gets 38 highway about 30 percent better.
I AM SELING A 2000 white beetle with turbo with sunroof..i am looing forward to sell it it it used has a spoiler.and custom wheels..o nad has turbo gagues.or how ever you spell that.
This nav is crap.....mine is the basic head unit with stereo Bluetooth to my android 5" phone which had music player and nav that do so much more than the crap that comes with this mode

Excellent job, Brian. Always a great delivery. One of the best reviewers on the web.
The six speed turbo is awesome.
awesome looking car, I dont care what anyone says.
Anyone else notice the Honda CB cafe at 3:50? It looks sick with the racing cowel
I agree. The first "new Beetle" looked more like the classic beetle - with the curved top, rounded rear lights, round fog lights, more rounded looking front hood, etc....
that definately is a sports car. its just a beetle body on top of a gti
I'm a guy and I would actually drive this bug
It still looks like a Beetle never the less. when you start looking at it hard then yeah it doesn't got this or that, just stop!

How does this look less like the OG Beetle. It has almost the exact same profile while the New Beetle looked like a bubble.
I'm a guy and I like the new turbo beetle. I'd consider trading in my camaro IF if the ride and handling is as good as what I've read.

will it bend? its missing the beetle bumpers made of german beer cans.
The Turbo model has independent rear suspension.
The host sounds like a math teacher.
The Mini has gone too far afield, the Beetle is still sticking to it.
Good review thanks!
Will it blend?

Astro Atomic if it got in a crash it would still crumple like a paper bag. The airbags wouldn't do much.
Looks nice!!!
2.0L turbo with only 200hp? wtf the six year old civic si's naturally aspirated 2.0L had 197hp!
I agree ...love the new design but I would only pat low $20k...VW Dealers are just being cocky cause they know they can sell a sucker for $30k
New? VW & Audi DSG has been around for more then 6 years.
I actually kind of like it. I want to see what the convertible one looks like.
a porsche with a shorter wheel base lol :D
kinda looks like fiat 500 and mini cooper had a love child lol
I'm still waiting for Beetle adventure racing 2!

I was waiting for the engine at the back joke :D i really want one BTW
This is a big improvement since Hitler designed the "People's Car"
Why buy a new beetle, when the old one was better? The old 60s bug even outlasts most of our modern cars!
Yeah, but they are hard to find.
Ian Above and maintain and be safe
This guy irks me. But I love the beetle
i kinda like him
Looks Porsche-ish.
My grandma has this car
sexyy. I would rock this but only if it was the turbo.
Get a Nexus 7 for $250 and that will take care of your touchscreen music player and navigation.

vw needs to reamp the turbo engine, its old engines of that variety are 230+ hp
Looks good. I'd be happy to drive one but I still would not buy it.
bring back the ALH TDI now!
and the nav on an adroid tablet is way, way more advance than any stock $3k nav you get on any car.
Does it come with a paper bag to cover your face?
Why? It looks nice.
AXP Bonecrusher it's a nice car you fucktard
Entendi tudo
70 years isn't ancient history.
longbord1 ancient history is like 1000 years classic history is like 80 or 70 years
far nicer but what a womans car
Nice but should have been a gray!

Gregory Perkins Have you driven all those cars? Sounds like the fake numbers dealers give out.
@ricksmiths10 I know right!! thats the " German engineering " every body is talking about! People dont know shit about cars this days!
they took a porche rubicon and put volkswagen beetle name on it.
Very true it was a chick car 0:31
i will never get in a beetle, even if VW design it like a lambo
I like it but I'd rather have a polo
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
yo tengo un combertible .
punch buggy no punch backs :)
Only buy the TDI Beetle!
Schpankme Verimuch and then there was diesel-gate

i prefer the classic buggy look...
Does this guy review Cars or Stereo units???
He does the same with every car 1 minute on the outside and 10 minutes talking about the GPS!!!!
@d0nunit WHAT?!
yo tengo un combertible .i
@Mario4Italy LOL
Tospaaa :D
pretty expensive for a car this level...
Sunroof is a huge fail!
This nav is crap.....mine is the basic head unit with stereo Bluetooth to my android 5" phone which had music player and nav that do so much more than the crap that comes with this mode
i'd rather ride a bike up Mt Everest
so with all these stuff's it gets close to $30k ??? are you kidding me ? rather pick a 370z instead...
Just get a GTI
What a junk id rather buy the older ones.
Id rather ride a donkey than that! !
he whines about nigling things too much..but overall good
this is probably the gayest comment... but wouldn't the beetle look kinda like a porsche 911 from the front if you took out the vw logo?...
Still a chick car..
new beetle 2012.......pt cruiser? hahahahahaha
Why in gods name would you buy a beetle with turbo?
masskilla469 to zip around town!
